Let us now discover the mysteries of the Tomb of Many Treasures.

41 - Indiana Jones and the Tomb of Many Treasures

E-Ticket
Any Height

BACKSTORY:
It is said that a long time ago, the kingdom of Egypt had gathered quite the treasure. However, legend has it that this treasure didn’t come from mortal hands, but from the hands of their gods. It was said that Ra, god of the sun, had created the treasure with his hands, one that offered power to its keeper. However, there was also rumored to be a curse on the treasure, a curse so deadly that it was locked away in a tomb and kept out of the hands of Egypt, even that of the pharaohs.

Many millennia later, the Grand Adventure Society sent its explorers to find the treasure. The guests take the roles of these explorers, who will join Indiana Jones, finally found after his disappearance (this can serve as a sequel to the Temple of the Sun Mask attraction or the Temple can serve as a prequel to this attraction, however the guests choose to experience it.) Now with the Sun Mask of Set in his hands, they plan to go into the tomb to find the treasure.

However, they are not alone. Some Nazi mercenaries have been sent to Egypt as well, searching for the same treasure. Although they are more cautious in their attempts to gain the treasure following the gruesome fates that Rene Belloq and the German soldiers met when they took the Ark of the Covenant (as seen in Raiders of the Lost Ark), they still are after the power of it. With them, Adolf Hitler has sent a new person, an Italian archeologist and friend of Belloq’s named Antonio Mortini. Known for his methods and tactics beyond comparison, Mortini is a dangerous opponent to deal with and one who is not to be messed with.

However, both parties may discover that some rumors may be true……..

QUEUE:
It starts out in the desert, where guests go around an oasis. They go past trees and sands before going to see the tomb in the distance. As guests approach the tomb, they can tell that something is wrong. A German airplane is seated in front of the tomb (the same German airplane in Raiders of the Lost Ark) as well as a blimp (similar to the one from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, even though this is before the events of that film, which is set in 1938, not 1937.)

Going into the tomb, guests wind their way past some ruins. Light and electricity are set up around the ruins of Egyptian statues. Columns hold the ceiling up. There is also a newsreel showing what the Grand Adventure Society is doing there, one which shows Indiana Jones, Short Round, and Sallah, the greatest digger in all of Egypt that some may recognize from certain Indiana Jones films. In the newsreel, it tells of the discovery of the ruins as well as the Temple of the Sun Mask and the Pharaoh’s resting place, both of which can be experienced elsewhere. Eventually, an explorer will let guests into a room, one of three, warning guests that there is someone who wants to ask them a few questions.

PRE-SHOW:
The doors close and the guests look around. They are in a sandstone room with an ominous look. The lights illuminate the otherwise dark room, a light bulb flickering over a papyrus of Ra on his mythical boat, which is on the opposite side of the place where the guests enter. On the right side, Sallah (fashioned after actor John Rhys-Davis) is in a caged area with Nazi soldiers in the room, which is shown on a screen. When he sees the guests, Sallah is panicked.

Sallah: “Oh no! Please tell me that they haven’t captured you guys too!”

Nazi Officer: “Silence, you swine!”

The officer hits him in the back with the butt of his gun, making Sallah cry in pain.

Sallah: “I told you not to do that!”

Nazi Officer: “Stop complaining and maybe I won’t.”

Just then, another door opens and a man walks in. The officers salute the man as he enters. This is Antonio Mortini.

Sallah: “What do you want now?”

Mortini: “What do I want? I want what you guys want, what these guys want too. I want the treasure.”

Sallah: “I told you that I don’t know how to get further into the tomb.”

Mortini: “Oh, I’m not asking you. We’ve asked you all we could ask and you’re useless.”

Sallah: “Hey!”

The Nazi Officer hits him in the back with his gun again.

Sallah: “C’mon.”

Mortini looks at the guests and paces around behind the bars.

Mortini: “Well, there. You must be the Grand Adventure Society. You were sent here by Mr. Nobleman, weren’t you?”

Sallah: “Actually, they were sent by someone from the future, Mr. Cotton.”

Mortini: “No stalling!”

Sallah sinks back at the man’s shouts.

Mortini: “Now, we’ve been trying to get further into this tomb. However, when we try to break down these walls, nothing happens.”

Sallah: “It’s the curse. It won’t let us pass.”

Mortini: “Nonsense. I don’t believe in curses.”

Just then, a cast member dressed like a soldier walks in from another door. They inform Mortini that the plane needs a refueling.

Mortini: “Again? Fine, but don’t you let them leave.”

Sallah: “Don’t feel like you have to come back and check on me though.”

Mortini: “Yeah, you’re coming too. We’re not letting you help them out.”

Sallah: “Why so paranoid, man?”

The officer hits him with the gun and forces him out. Mortini and the soldiers also leave. When they are alone, the soldier in the room reveals that they are a spy for the Grand Adventure Society and that they were sent by Indiana Jones to get them into the tomb, where he is waiting for them. This spy explains that in order to get to the treasury of the tomb, they have to take the mythical Boats of Ra, which await in the cellar of the tomb. They open a secret passage behind the papyrus by tapping the headdress of Ra three times.

Once this passage has opened up, guests walk through it and down to a cellar. Here, drawings of the gods are seen on the walls, based on real Egyptian drawings. This is where guests board wooden boats, which are the previously mentioned Boats of Ra. They are fashioned after Ancient Egyptian boats. Here, guests sit down and place their belongings in front of them.

RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The boats that the guests have boarded have the same ride system as Shanghai’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which turn, go backwards, and spin to further put guests into the story. Similarly, the visual effects and advanced system of this attraction are similar to those used in the previously mentioned attraction in Shanghai.

The ride begins with the boats going into a tunnel. Through here, they go through a dungeon whose inhabitants have since then passed on. Similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, guests see skeletons within cells.

Turning the corner, the wall opens up and some Nazis emerge. Among them is Mortini, who has Sallah captive. When seeing the guests on the boat, Mortini is furious.

Mortini: “Thought you could escape, eh? Well, too bad! This man here told me how to get into the tomb and now here we are.”

Jones: “Why don’t you pick on someone your own size, Mortini?”

Just then, Indiana Jones comes around near the corner with his whip. With a crack, he turns to the guests and looks down.

Jones: “I’ll keep them busy. You go out into the tomb and find the treasure!”

Jones then swings over to the other side while the boats go down the waterway even more. They go through some more waterways and encounter more Nazi soldiers, who attempt to shoot at the guests as they pass. Water droplets in the waters and gun firing noises create this illusion. After going under a bridge, the boat goes past a bomb placed in the water. They swirl around the bomb and quickly make a right turn to escape, the sound of exploding coming off from behind them.

Going into the waterways more, guests are immersed in a cave. They keep going until they reach a dead end, where a statue of Ra stands. The statue comes to life with orange eyes and looks over the guests, and then it speaks.

Statue: “Who dares enter the Tomb of Many Treasures? If you are worthy to take the treasure, you must prove yourself. I shall put you through three tests.”

Suddenly, the boats start going backwards and go down another hill. As it does, the area becomes dark, so dark that guests can barely see anything.

Statue: “For your first test, you shall test your wit.”

The boat turns around and goes forwards in darkness. Mysterious lights enter the room, showing a passage of skulls. The statue from earlier explains the situation.

Statue: “Inside one of these skulls is a key. Choose the right one and you shall pass, but choose the wrong one and you shall die.”

Since the guests can’t leave the boat to select a skull, Indiana Jones shows up, exhausted from the previous fight. He looks at the guests from the right, where the boat turns to see him.

Jones: “Which one is it? It has to be somewhere we don’t expect.”

The boat begins to row towards a white skull hanging from a spear in the wall. It moves right past it, nearly colliding with it. Jones sees this and is worried.

Jones: “Wait! Don’t touch that!”

It is too late, for when the skull is encountered, the boat begins to spin out of control. The ceiling begins to rumble, looking like it is about to collapse. In a quick attempt to stop this, Jones goes over to another skull and pulls out a key.

Statue: “You have chosen it.”

The boat stops and continues going. As it goes through the tunnel ahead, Jones speaks from behind.

Jones: “Be careful in the next room, and don’t touch anything.”

Statue: “For your next test, we shall test your courage.”

Within the next room, the boats come face-to-face with a bunch of serpents in the water. Indy, however, pours some gasoline into the water, making a line between the guests and the snakes, and then sets it on fire (which is really all an illusion due to safety reasons.)

Jones: “Stay back, you serpents. Man, I hate these guys.”

The boat turns around the room, looking at all of the serpents in the water, and then goes backwards into the next room.

Statue: “For your final test, you shall test your strength.”

Looking around, guests see themselves in a room full of treasure, statues of Ra illuminating the room. Jones stands in the room at the left, looking around at the treasures.

Jones: “Wow. This is enough treasure to bring America out of the Great Depression.”
l-epV7IV9rhhalDhSjc8645WpWWht7rNBdvcDZOB7-TgCUq4fYg2S_hW18Hdd8fxfWdlOlg_5kGPXKKVcZN_lZjNDveQDPZRYeU3eCFyjUJVMfROlmiUskW6_NAAcoorUIe0s_LlpPGlGzjbT9IgG4WQkaPsjHTbMGcgPEnHdo4NPHh5mRXh3fps19k
The boats suddenly turn around and view a giant statue of Ra between two Anubis statues. On Ra’s head is a golden headdress.

Suddenly, Mortini and some Nazi soldiers show up around the statue with guns in their hands. Mortini stands at the top of the statue, about to take the headdress from the statue.

Mortini: “Ha! All we had to do is follow you and we got right to the treasure! Imagine the power that this shall give Hitler when he receives it.”

As the boat comes closer to the statue, it switches lanes once again, watching as Mortini looks at the headdress.

Mortini: “Ciao, Bella. You shall be coming with me.”

Jones: “Wait a minute. Why is it so easy?”

Mortini then takes the headdress, and the lighting around the tomb turns red. The statue of Ra has red eyes and begins to shake.

Ra: “You fools. You have failed! Now you shall pay the price of stealing our treasures!”

With a puff of smoke, Mortini is engulfed by mist. When it passes, he is nothing but a skeleton. Puffs of smoke go around and turn the Nazis to skeletons too.

Jones: “Quick! Out of the tomb! I’ll open the way!”

The boat moves backwards and goes down one more small drop. It goes past several areas with mist blasting as they go. The voice of the statue screams in rage as the boat goes out.

The boat is then turned around and ascends a lift back to the main floor. At the top of the lift, they pass by Indiana Jones and Sallah, who congratulate them as they pass by.

Jones: “You guys did good. Shame that we didn’t get the treasure, but seeing what happened to Mortini and his men, it’s good that we didn’t.”

Sallah: “I’d say so. My request is that you guys stay out of the tombs from here on out.”

Jones: “I hope they will too.”

The boats then go to the unloading area, which is closeby. Similar to the Magic Kingdom variant of Pirates of the Caribbean, a buried is at the end of the room to hide the loading area. Here is where guests get off of their boat and walk out of the tomb.

POST-RIDE:
The guests exit the tomb on the side. They take a secret passage back to the desert. Here, they can go back and reflect on their adventure. For those who believed that they would die in the tomb, they might be glad to see the desert again.

Join us tomorrow to discover what other secrets lie in the sands, including shopping, dining, and entertainment in Adventure Outpost.

Merry Christmas, everyone. To celebrate, we shall begin our tour of Pandora.

PANDORA: THE WORLD OF AVATAR

OVERVIEW AND BACKSTORY:
Many years in the future, there was a company called the RDA (Resources Development Administration) who made money off of materials from other planets. One of these planets was the moon of Pandora, where they traveled to and took resources from. However, these resources were located in sacred spaces to the native people of the moon, the Na’vi. Aided by some rogue RDA pilots led by former marine Jake Sulley, the Na’vi were able to drive the RDA away from Pandora and protect their homeland.

Several generations would pass and a new set of people would come to Pandora, ACE (Alpha Centauri Expeditions), a division of the Grand Adventure Society. They saw how the RDA’s earlier presence on the moon had damaged their ecosystem. With this, ACE met with several tribes of Na’vi and bargained to learn more about their animals so that they could learn to heal their struggling ecosystem. Even though the Na’vi were reluctant to let new foreigners interfere with their planet, they accepted.

However, in order to help repair the ecosystem, more people need to learn about it. In order to do this, ACE has set up expeditions to Pandora so that guests can come and see it. They can see the valley up-close, bond with a banshee, and even see the power of its nature by taking a boat down their rivers. Here, the guests will learn of the connection between the people of the moon and the world around them, and hopefully, be inspired to connect with their world back on Earth.

(Guests come into this land two ways. One way is a passage near Adventure Outpost and one is between Yellow River Rapids and Kunlun Quest in Asian Gulf, which is marked by an alien-looking plant that lets out steam every now and then.)

Go on a mystical voyage through the rivers of Pandora to find the Na’vi Shaman of Songs, seeing how the wildlife of the moon share a rhythmic connection.

QUEUE:
Guests go around a wooden shrine with a tribal carving of the Shaman of Songs. They will go under a wooden pavilion afterwards and walk past alien wildlife. Signs are all around the queue, informing guests about the animals and plants of Pandora. They are presented in both their English names and their Na’vi names. Soon, guests will go inside a cave and make their way to a river, where two boats linked together await them. Both boats seat up to eight people.

RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The ride begins by floating through some caves. On the way, it passes a Na’vi warrior, who speaks in his native tongue as they pass. As the boats exit the cave, they are immersed in a nighttime forest with bioluminescent lighting from the plants. Croaking of frog-like creatures come in the background, as well as a small bit of music. As the guests float further down the river, the music becomes louder and closer as they see more animals. Hyena-like beasts go around, frog creatures jump up above, and cattle-like creatures are being led by their Na’vi herders. Guests can also see glowing cotton things float in the sky.

(Sorry if I’m just calling things what they look like. I don’t know the names for them.)

At the end of the ride, where the music and nature is strongest, guests will encounter the lifelike Shaman of Songs. As she moves and sings, the nature glows around her, showing the magical connection she has with her world. Afterwards, the boats will go through another cave of Na’vi treasure before returning to the load area, where they will take a passage back to Pandora.

BACKSTORY:
The Na’vi people have been very connected with their animals, but one of their greatest connections is with Ikrans, also known as Mountain Banshees. Ikrans are strong and beastly creatures, so riding on their back is a significant rite of passage. It is also a vital event for any Na’vi hunter, native or otherwise.

During his time on Pandora, Jake Sulley was the first outsider to ride an Ikran. A century later, other guests will be able to ride an Ikran so they can see all that the land has to offer and get this marvelous experience for themselves. Like Sulley, they will be pairing up with Avatars to ride the Ikran (luckily, the technology has advanced to the point where they don’t have to clear their heads to enter an Avatar body.) With support from ACE and the Na’vi, they will learn how to ride an Ikran and help them better understand them.

QUEUE:
Located near an abandoned RDA camp is where the queue begins. From there, guests will walk around the greenery before going behind a waterfall and into a cave. This is a revived research station where the RDA created Avatars. This is now being used by ACE to create Avatars of their own. After going through an area where a video on Avatars is played, as well as some floating in tanks, they will be directed by an ACE adventurer into one of many rooms.

PRE-SHOW:
Before going into their theaters, guests will stand on numbers in two rooms, both on the same numbers. In the first room, a scientist will explain the cultural significance of the rite of passage and how they got there. He explains that to ride an Ikran, they will be paired up with Avatars, but since they can’t make new ones at the moment, they will be using already-existing Avatars. Guests are then “cleaned” with puffs of air and lasers, and then they move around to help sync themselves up. In the second room, the leader of ACE explains how the Ikran population had been in decline due to the effects of the RDA, and they are trying to help restore the population to their average number with the Pandora Conservation Initiative. In order to do that, however, they need to learn more about them. Ikrans are apex predators on Pandora, so losing them would be a terrible thing. She then proceeds to tell them how they could be learning more about their animals on earth by doing this. She warns about the intensity of some parts and wishes them good luck, going back to the scientist from before. After moving another time, the guests will be dismissed.

Guests then are led into one of many theaters, where they will stuff their belongings in bins at the back. Going on the same number they had in the two rooms, they will board a bike-like vehicle and put on their Na’vi glasses, previously given to them as they entered the area.

RIDE EXPERIENCE:
As the vehicles are put into place, guests hold on to the handlebars. Small screens show them linking with their Avatars. The door ahead opens up and reveals a big screen, which shows them going through the neural passage into the mind of the Avatars. They awaken in the Avatar bodies and on the Ikran. They follow a Na’vi guide, also on an Ikran, over the Valley of Moara.

At first, things are gentle with them flying over natural wonders and past waves, but a sudden encounter with the big Ikran (the red one seen in the film), forces them to go into hiding. The ikrans take shelter in a cave, which lights up inside.

When all is safe, the Ikrans go down the floating mountains and soar over the forest, going through a stampede and passing through archways. Soon, they land on a branch with other Ikrans and go back into their normal bodies. The door closes and the ride vehicles open up.

POST-RIDE:
After gathering their belongings, guests will go down a staircase and take a passage out into Pandora. There, they can visit Windtraders, a former RDA bunker turned gift shop for Pandora.

Join us tomorrow as we look at the other things that can be found on Pandora, including dining, shopping, and entertainment.

OVERVIEW:
When putting together Adventure World, there were two major areas of Asia that had been explored that Jeff Cotton couldn’t ignore. One of them was China, where legends and history was made, and the other was Southeast Asia, a region of the world with an unusual culture and history. When seeing these, he decided to bring both of them in, but both for different reasons.

From China, he brought in the Yellow River and Kunlun Mountains. The mountains were a great interest to Phileas Fogg, who believed that it was where the lost treasure of Yen Su was buried. With this in mind, he wanted to go to the mountains himself to find the treasure while also showing the Grand Adventure Society the wonders of the ancient land. This is also the home of the icon of the park, Kunlun.

From Southeast Asia, he brought in a magical realm known as Kumandra. Once they lived with dragons, but then a mindless plague known as the Druun came and turned people and dragons to stone. Sisdatu, the last dragon, was able to restore them, but she went to sleep while the people fought over the gem and were fractured. The gem was eventually broken and the Druun returned, but so did Sisudatu. Found by a lone warrior and princess of Heart named Raya, Sisudatu and others were able to expel the Druun once and for all and bring back the people, dragons included, through trust and teamwork.

With legends of treasure and dreams of united people, this land is one for many. It is a land for adventure and for the heart. Here, guests can hear stories from Asia and be immersed in its culture. Here, they shall embark on adventures on river, on mountain, and on rain, and here they shall find the treasure that the Grand Adventure Society has been after for so long.

BACKSTORY:
While searching China for Yen Su’s treasure, Jeff Cotton came across a village in China that claimed to be the village of the ancient Chinese warrior Fa Mulan. There, he learned about the interesting story of the warrior, telling of her strength and courage in times of hardship.

However, there was another legend that surrounded the area that the village was famous for. They believed that the Yellow River had a mysterious source, some say it came from heaven. Others believed that it came from the stars themselves. They said how at one end of the river, the dragon of old was asleep, willing to take anyone who came across it to the stars. The people did warn that going to the stars could be dangerous, and their return to Earth would not be easy.

Despite these warnings, Cotton decided to have rafting expeditions to find the source of the dragon of old and have them go to the stars. On a gentle river through China, what could possibly go wrong?

QUEUE:
Located at the back of the village, before guests cross over into the mountain village of the Chinese section, is an old temple. Guests walk back to that temple, which contains Daoist and Confucist podiums as well as cultural things like dragons. Guests walk around the temple and learn the story of the Yellow River through several mosaics on the walls, which have signs to explain them. Eventually, they will go outside of the temple and cross a bridge, where rafts can be seen below. They board the loading and unloading area on the left. Here, they get on their rafts and buckle up.

RIDE EXPERIENCE:
Going under the bridge, the rafts go through a small forest full of monkeys and pandas. This is done with audio-animatronics in a Jungle Cruise fashion. Even though not all guests can see them, the sounds of the creatures and the possibility that other guests can see them is proof that they are there. The rafts are supposed to go forward into the river, but a fallen tree stands in the way, directing them into another path.

Here, the waves get rougher as they go down the rapids. Guests are splashed by waves, waterfalls, and geysers as they head down the river. (Nobody will come off of this ride dry). They soon settle down though and ascend a lift up to some old Chinese ruins. Here, they keep going down with the waves as they pass through old mines and abandoned caves. Soon, all is darkness.

Suddenly, a voice comes from overhead, telling them not to be afraid. The rafts go past a red Chinese dragon, which sits on a ledge to the right. It explains that it is the dragon of old, and that it will take them to the stars. Guests pass through a water scene with magical visual effects (think of the waterfall scene from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where they go into Ta Lo.) Soon, they ascend another lift, going through a cosmic field and seeing galaxies and stars. The raft turns around and views the earth, as well as clouds all around it.

Soon, the rafts go into mist and the waves become rough once more. Without warning, they go down some other steep rapids through clouds and then exit into a forest. Here, they pass by some Chinese villagers who are farming on the sides, welcoming them as they pass, and then they head into the forest. Guests can see Kunlun from where they are, but the view doesn’t last long, because pretty soon, the rafts drop down a small hill.

At the end, they go past some old ruins as well as some stone dragons that squirt at riders as they pass by. From there, they go under a second bridge and into the loading area once more.

POST-RIDE:
When guests exit the vehicle, they walk over to the second bridge and go into River Traders, a gift shop. This is where they can buy merchandise themed to the attraction as well as water supplies. There is also a balcony where guests can use the dragons to squirt people.

BACKSTORY:
A long time ago in Medieval China, there lived a great and mighty conqueror. He went by many names. The King of Plunder, the Red Warrior, the Barbarian Prince, but his most common name was Yen Su. Throughout his life, he built himself an empire in eastern China, one that even the Emperor of China couldn’t ignore. He brought the world under fear, being known as a ruthless being until the Mongol Empire rose three centuries later.

Under his command was a group of plunderers and conquerors that would travel the world, ransacking cities of their treasure and bringing it back to their master. It was said that by the time he was seventy, Yen Su had taken treasure from all over the Old World, all from Europe, Africa, and Asia, and built himself the greatest fortune known to man.

However, this man was mortal, and he still was subject unto death. As his life drained out of him, Yen Su commanded that his treasure was hidden in the mountains of Kunlun, a mountain range rich with mythology located on the border of Tibet and mainland China (which back then were two separate countries). It was said that Kunlun was the dwelling place of many mythical creatures, but the highest point was where his treasure was buried alongside a great guardian that had passed over from the Himalayas, a fearsome yeti, as its protector.

During his time of exploration, Phileas Fogg, founder of the Grand Adventure Society, had a secret ambition to find the treasure. He made several trips to China and went deep into the Kunlun mountains, but he never did find the treasure. Alfred Nobleman and Alberta Johnson did not have interests in finding the treasure, but Jeff Cotton, the current leader of the Grand Adventure Society, does. He had it to such an extent that he searched for the treasure and believed to find the top of Kunlun peak, one that can only be reached through magical forces.

Now, this is one of two major story attractions. The guests are sent to the Kunlun mountains to finally find the treasure, but they shall soon discover the dangers and mysteries of the mountain as they race to survive.

QUEUE:
Within the mountain village (which features two shops, two restaurants, and a theater) is a big building on the west end, which has some signs advertising the expedition. Here, guests go into the building, an old Chinese fort that has been repurposed as a hotel.

Guests go through several rooms on their way. This includes the lobby, a banquet hall, some outdoor gardens, a shrine, and a small museum about the Kunlun mountain range. This shows statues based off of several myths and legends surrounding it.

Eventually, guests go forward into another building, this one smaller than the hotel that they were just in. Marked by dragons, they go into the first of two rooms for the pre-show.

PRE-SHOW:
In the first room, guests are surrounded by ancient Chinese artifacts. To their left is a rocking chair next to a fireplace, where an old man is asleep. This old man is no other than Jeff Cotton, the leader of the Grand Adventure Society. Sitting next to him is a projector, which is pointed at a white sheet covering a wall.

Soon, a cast member will come in and wake him up. With this, Cotton looks around and notices the guests.

Cotton: “Well, hello there, bold explorers. You must be the new members of the Grand Adventure Society. It is an honor to finally meet you. I’m sure you are wondering what you are doing here in China. Well, let me explain.”

Cotton turns on the projector and it starts a slideshow on the wall. First up is an old Chinese drawing of a strong-looking man on a horse.

Cotton: “A long time ago, there was a great and mighty conqueror here in China. He went by many names, such as the King of Plunder, the Red Warrior, the Barbarian Prince, but he was best known as Yen Su. Throughout his life, he built a mighty empire here in western China.

The picture then changes to a drawing of gold and other trinkets among it.

Cotton: “It was said that during his lifetime, he had a bunch of his men travel the world and plunder every port they came across. By the time of his death, Yen Su had gathered a great collection of treasure, one of the greatest treasures known to man.”

The picture changes to the Kunlun mountains, which are tall and mighty.

Cotton: “Legend has it that after Yen Su died, his treasure was taken to the mountains of Kunlun, a place rich with mythology in China. Although nobody knows exactly where it is hidden, it is said that he placed it on the top of the highest peak, a peak unreachable by any who do not possess magic.”

The picture changes to a black-and-white photo of Phileas Fogg, next to two other photos of a man (whom some might recognize from the Tower of Terror as one of the five unlucky souls who went into the Twilight Zone), and a woman.

Cotton: “For many years, our founder, Phileas Fogg, looked for it. However, he never found it during his life, even though it was his greatest ambition. Sadly, his successors, Alfred Nobleman and Alberta Johnson, didn’t have much interest in finding the treasure.”

The picture changes to Jeff Cotton with some more modern-looking explorers.

Cotton: “Lucky for you, I do have interest in finding the treasure. If it was our master’s greatest motive, then this organization should’ve done it. I want to be the one who achieves our founder’s goal, and for that reason, I am sending you into Kunlun to find the treasure.”

The picture then changes to a shadowy figure in the snow, and then a clawed foot on the snow, and lastly, an ancient picture of a yeti, a snow-dwelling being in Tibetan folklore that dwells in the mountains.

Cotton: “But beware. Legend has it that a great beast protects the treasure. It is said that the yeti, a ferocious white monster of old, immigrated there from the Himalayas and currently serves as the guardian of the treasure. Sure, the existence of the yeti has been the subject of debate for a long time, but who knows, some legends might be true. So many other legends have proven to be true by this Society.”

The picture then changes to pictures of many other mythical Chinese creatures.

Cotton: “But the yeti isn’t the only thing that dwells in this mountain. It is believed that other creatures of Chinese legend exist up there too. Most of them are harmless, but there are some that you may not want to encounter, but don’t let that worry you. Everything will be okay.”

The slideshow turns off as Cotton continues speaking.

Cotton: “In the next room is Li Shan, an ancient martial artist and self-proclaimed sorcerer who will present to you your vehicles to go up into Kunlun. He is waiting for you in the next room, so go on. I wish you luck on your expedition and hope that you find the treasure.”

A cast member then opens the door and guests go out to another room. Here, they are immersed in a calm temple where drawings of trees, mountains, and waves are all around. In the center of the temple is a man, who sits down while eating some rice, which is in a bowl on his lap. This is Li Shan, the person that Jeff Cotton had mentioned earlier.

Li Shan: “I’ve been expecting you, travelers.”

Li Shan stops eating and looks around. He then looks around the room.

Li Shan: “I know why you are here. You need vehicles to get up to the Kunlun mountains. Do not fear, for I will provide them for you.”

Li Shan then moves his hands around, and as they do, the pictures come to life. On the ceiling appears the five elements of Chinese folklore: Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire. The Chinese characters for them appear on the roof as the pictures come to life. The mountains shake, the forest grows, the waves splash, the iron doors of the temple open and close, revealing otherworldly realms beyond them, and the temple lights up. Once all of the elements are on the ceiling, Li Shan speaks.

Li Shan: “Your vehicles are ready. Now go forth and find the treasure, and don’t be afraid. You will be protected.”

After the visually stunning experience, guests walk down a passage and into the temple, where they place their belongings before getting on the ride. They then exit into a secret passage, where some moving carriages done in Chinese format are seen. They are all tied together with four people fitting in one cart, five carts in a row. Guests get on a conveyor belt to board the carts and then pull down their lap bars to get ready.

RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The ride begins by having the vehicles move through a Chinese forest, going up and down some hills. Eventually, it will come to an abandoned tower with a built-in elevator. The carts enter the tower and ascend the elevator, going up four stories. This takes them to the base camp of the mountain, where the adventure begins. (This mountain is the same height as Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which is fourteen stories high. It is not taller than that to avoid getting in the direction of airplanes.)

The carts make their way through the rocky base of the mountain, which has a waterfall coming down on the right. The carts go into a cave, which has ancient Chinese writings on the walls. Skeletons of Chinese warriors and others who failed to get the treasure are found around the cave on both sides, looking like they were caught by cave-ins. A big pile of rubble lies in front of the tracks as the carts stop. However, the rubble magically parts as the carts begin to move. The voice of Li Shan comes from overhead as they stay there.

Li Shan: “Prepare to enter Kunlun, my friends.”

The carts keep going forward, the path of rubble closing behind them. From there, they will go deeper into the cave, going past several mythical creatures from Chinese mythology, including Xainglu, the nine-headed snake, the mythical Monkey King (whose design is similar to that of the variant in Hong Kong Disneyland’s Mystic Manor), and several other beings. However, when the area reaches a dead end, there is nowhere else to go but down. This ends the peaceful moment and sends the carts through a coaster. It goes straight down and then goes up. After ascending that hill, it goes right and outside of the cave, going around the snowy basin of the mountain. It passes by a Chinese temple, going into a cave marked with the number 4 (which in Chinese culture, means bad luck.)

When inside the cave, guests see booby-trapped areas. Skeletons are seen crushed by a fallen boulder. Puffs of air come out of holes in the walls. The coaster drops and turns left through a place full of spears before turning into what looks like a pool of magma. This is actually water with a red color in it to make it look like magma, but it is still supposed to be convincing. Here, the carts meet a dead end, so there is nowhere left to go but backwards. It goes past the spears again but takes an alternate route, where it goes past terracotta warriors before exiting the cave and going out into a snowy area.

Here, the carts turn around and go towards the mountain. Taking a lift, the carts go to the top of the mountain, winds howling and a small puff being released on guests as they come up (this puff would not be present on colder days.) Here, they pass through a Chinese gate, which is guarded by two stone dragons. On a stone next to the entrance to another cave, this one marked with 8 (which means good luck in Chinese culture), they see traditional Chinese characters written. This writing tells of the treasures within but the warning that they may not get out with much treasure.

Looking around, guests see a bunch of gold and other things. There are trinkets and scrolls and statues from all over the world, not just China but also from India, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. At the end of the tunnel is a statue of Yen Su himself, standing at the other end of the bridge.

However, before guests can get to the other side of the bridge, something appears on the top of the statue. The shadow of a big, furry creature comes, looking menacingly at the guests. It grabs a lever and pulls it, and with it, the bridge falls.

Five stories down, the guests see themselves in a cavern full of skeletons, similar carts found on the walls and shattered. The carts head up a little, and with footsteps above and the roar of the yeti, the carts take off in a launch.

The carts go around tight turns and through the cave before having a small drop. It turns around and passes by the yeti itself, which reaches out to guests from the side. This is similar to the yeti in Expedition Everest, but unlike that, it would be reaching out and not just look like it through strobe light. Following this yeti encounter is a drop outside of the mountain and then a shaky trip through a small ravine. The carts pass by a falling boulder on their left, but turn away from it. The cart drops one more time and then ends up going through the forest again. After grinding to a halt, the carts pass by a temple, where Li Shan is standing with a bunch of the treasure.

Li Shan: “I enchanted your carts to suck up treasure like a magnet. It happened while you were on the bridge. Do not worry, because I got most of it. It doesn’t matter that we don’t have it all, but it matters that you are alive. Thank you for helping us and do be careful.”

From there, the carts return to the unloading station. When lap bars are raised, guests get off of the conveyor belt and take a walk to the other side of the locker room, where they collect their belongings.

POST-RIDE:
Guests go through a passage and to the hotel’s treasury, which sells merchandise themed to the attraction. There, they can buy plush toys based on Chinese mythological creatures, Yetis, and other Chinese things as well as other things. They can also collect their photos, which were taken during the first drop of the ride.

Join us tomorrow as we head to Kumandra to see what attractions they have.

Let's now see our big attractions, including the towering Kunlun.

(My apologies if I said that Yellow River was a E-Ticket when it says D-Ticket.)

It's all good buddy.

So "Kunlun Quest: Legend of the Great Beast" is your parks version of Expedition Everest. Nice, I like the variations that different parks make with their similar attractions. Like Phantom Manor in Paris.

This is an idea I've had from a while, where you're running on raindrops over Kumandra. I've been looking for many places to put it. I had considered expansions to Adventureland (where Raya fits best in my opinion due to its location in Southeast Asia), in the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Paris, but I couldn't find room for them. Instead, I decided to place it here in Adventure World as part of the Asian Gulf section. It was originally supposed to be like Flight of Passage, but with that ride already in the park, I didn't want to use the same ride system. Instead, it's a lot like Soarin', just a little more intense and with in-theater effects.

BACKSTORY:
In the mystical Southeast Asian realm of Kumandra, there was peace and unity among the people, who lived among the dragons. However, some small bits of mistrust and conflict among the people created a monstrous plague known as the Druun, a swarm of darkness that turned everything it touched into stone, multiplying with every life it took. The dragons tried to help, but they too, were turned into stone. When all hope seemed lost, five dragons made a gem containing all of their power, creating it through trust and hope. After the creation of the gem, all of them were turned to stone but one, Sisudatu. Using all of her power, she used the gem and banished the Druun away from the land, going to sleep at the end of a river afterwards. Although the people were revived, the dragons were not. The people all wanted the power of the gem to themselves, so they fought over it, destroying the bonds of trust and friendship that held them together. The land of Heart would eventually take it, keeping it for nearly 500 years.

Despite tensions among the fractured lands–Tail, Heart, Talon, Spine, and Fang–there was order in the land. That was, until, the land of Fang hatched a plan to steal the gem. Using the Heart princess, Raya, as a tool, the princess of Fang, Namaari, attempted to sneak into the gem’s residence and take it. However, the plan backfired and the other four lands became aware of this. They all went to the gem’s resting place and fought over it once more, destroying it in the process. With this, the Druun returned, turning everyone it touched, including Chief Benja, Raya’s father, into stone.

For six years, Raya searched for Siudatu, finally finding her in the furthermost river of Kumandra in the land of Tail. With an ancient ritual, she woke up Sisu, who was unaware of anything that had happened. They soon set off to rebuild the gem, gathering pieces from all the other lands. As this happened, their team grew, but they were not united and Raya refused to friendzone any of them after what happened between her and Namaari. Inevitably, they would go to Fang to get the piece that they had, and with it, Sisu encouraged her to try and trust Namaari again. Although things initially went well, Namaari wanted the gem and Sisu to fix her land’s reputation, but Raya, believing that she was up to her old tricks again, attacked, accidentally killing Sisu in the process. With the last dragon gone, the Druun went around to turn everyone else into stone. However, it was in the darkest time when they realized that trust was the only thing that could save them. Raya and her comrades gave Namaari all of their pieces, trusting her to make things right before they were turned to stone. Namaari repaired the gem before she, too, was turned to stone, and the gem, sensing that trust and unity was starting to come back, banished the Druun once more, revived all of the people who had been turned to stone, and, brought back all of the dragons, who in turn resurrected Sisu.

A few months have passed since then. Chief Benja and the other surviving chiefs of Kumandra have decided to work together to repair all the damage that the Druun had caused. Looking at old legends, it is said that five water Life Stones lie in Kumandra, all of which could do marvelous things for the people. To do this, he sent Raya and some others to travel the land in search of these stones, and with it, the Grand Adventure Society were invited to help them out.

QUEUE:
Located in the Kumandran village area of Asian Gulf, which recreates the land of Talon from the film Raya and the Last Dragon, guests will see the arch that marks the land of Heart. Going over a dragon-headed bridge, they will enter the village. They then board a magic elevator (which really doesn’t move, but how else would the people down below get to the palace on the arch?) to take them to Heart Palace.

Within Heart Palace are several Southeast Asian influences, mainly from Indonesia and Malaysia (the two lands that I think inspired Heart. I also think that Singapore and the Philippines inspired Talon, Laos and Vietnam inspired Spine, Cambodia inspired Tail, and Thailand and Myanmar AKA Burma inspired Fang.) In the palace, guests will see woven blankets and scrolls telling the story of Raya and how they restored Kumandra from the Druun, just to serve as a refresher on what has happened. They also pass by the main hall where flowers float in water, hedgehog-armadillo creatures (like Tuk-Tuk) move around in an area, and tapestries on the walls, each representing one of the five lands.

Eventually, a Heart soldier will let them into another room, where they will meet with Chief Benja. They will be escorted into one of two showrooms.

PRE-SHOW:
Within the two rooms are golden dragons holding up a balcony, where an Audio-Animatronic Chief Benja stands. On the left and right are tapestries. Guests look up and listen to the chief, who happily greets us.

Benja: “Greetings, members of the Grand Adventure Society, and welcome to Kumandra. It is a pleasure to have you here. I am Chief Benja, Chief of Heart. You may be asking, why are you here? Well, that story begins a long time ago.”

The tapestries then show screens, which have Southeast Asian pictures and designs telling the story. Meanwhile, Southeast Asian music inspired by James Newton Howard’s score from the film plays. Benja speaks as the tapestries show their pictures.

Benja: “This land wasn’t always the united place it is today. It was a long time ago, but for five hundred years, we were divided, fractured into lands. I, however, believed that we could be a united nation once more. People thought I was silly, but now look around. However, it wasn’t easy, and it all took an unexpected tragedy to start it off.”

The pictures make a small recap of how the world broke down six years prior.

Benja: “Six years ago, I invited all of the lands to discuss peace talks, but Fang, our enemy, had a plan to steal the Dragon Gem that we have guarded for a long time. The other lands came in and broke the gem, causing an ancient plague known as the Druun to return. I was turned to stone for six years, and, well, I’ll tell you what happened next.”

The pictures then tell of Raya’s journey in the film.

Benja: “My daughter, Raya, went looking for the one person she believed could fix things, Sisu, who back then, was the last dragon in Kumandra. She found her, and together, they went around and gathered the gem pieces. Although Raya didn’t listen at the time, Sisu told her to trust other people and have them help her restore the world. Although it took some time as well as the accidental slaying of Sisu to get her to believe this, it worked. With trust and teamwork, Raya and her friends were able to rebuild the gem, banish the Druun, and bring everyone back. They even brought the other dragons back, who in return, brought Sisu back to life.”

The pictures then tell the story of what is going on now.

Benja: “Now, it has been three months since then. I have met with the other chiefs and we have decided to work together to help rebuild Kumandra after the damage that the Druun had caused. It will not be easy, but I have been studying legends, and I know of something that could help us.”

The pictures then show the five Life Stones.

Benja: “Legend has it that a long time ago, back when we were still united, a dragon named Mangwen created five stones containing remarkable power. They could heal the sick and injured, repair the unrepairable, and even supply endless bits of food and water. This could really help out our nation after all that has happened. However, these things are hard to find, but there is some good news. I have sent Raya and some of her friends to scout them, and luckily, we already found one.”

Chief Benja holds up one of the Life Stones, which is glowing blue in his hand.

Benja: “This was submerged under our river for a thousand years. However, I don’t believe that the rest of them will be this easy to find. Luckily, this is where you come in. The dragons have once again lent us their power, and with it, they have given us these vehicles that you can fly in. Well, it’s not really flying, but it feels like it. You’re actually running on raindrops. It’s a pretty epic thing to do, tell you what.”

Just then, Sisu sticks her head through the window, looking a little bored.

Sisu: “Are you almost done? The dragon lifts are ready to go.”

Chief Benja looks at her and gasps.

Sisu: “Sorry, did I startle you?”

Benja: “No, no. It’s just that I’m still getting used to seeing dragons in my palace. I was just about to send them out.”

Sisu: “Alright. I’ll go tell my brother, Pengu. We should be getting ready to go too.”

Sisu then leaves the room and the sounds of bouncing on rain are heard. Benja looks back at the guests and gives some closing remarks.

Benja: “Okay, so the dragons are waiting for us, but hopefully it’ll take them time to get ready. However, we shouldn’t leave the lifts unattended, so you should get going soon. In conclusion, I’d like to give some safety remarks.”

The tapestries show a slight safety video, depicting riders as Kumandran citizens.

Benja: “When you get to the lift, make sure that your seatbelts are buckled and tight around your waist. We don’t want to lose anyone here. If you have trouble getting in your seat, turn to one of my guards for help. While you are on your flight, leave your objects on the ground. You may wear loose articles as long as they do not come off easily. As for those who have sensitivity to sudden effects or flashing lights, a fear of heights, motion sickness, or high blood pressure it is best if you sit out during this. Also be warned, you may get splashed during the ride. Thank you for joining us and good luck.”

From there, guests will enter the loading bay, which recreates a stable of some sort. Here, they board their dragon lifts, which are similar to the Soarin’ vehicles but smaller, fitting two people instead of six, and designed to look a little more older, made of presumed wood instead of metal. Guests follow the safety commandments and get ready.

RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The ride system of this attraction is a lot like that of Soarin’, with a few exceptions. The ride vehicle bobs up and down to give guests the feeling that they are running on raindrops, the vehicle has in-theater effects that include water, fog effects, puffs of air, and even some indoor snow for Spine (which is in a frozen forest), and the sound system is on the ride vehicle, making sure that everyone hears the same thing.

The lifts raise and begin to move, and with it, they go out into the land. After going through some mist, they come out into the rain and over the land of Heart. Sisu and some other dragons are seen jumping around. However, the lifts go with Sisu and head upriver.

Eventually, they get to the land of Fang. Here, they go through Fang palace, meeting with Namaari and going down into the catacombs. There, they go through a maze before finding a stone in the center of it. This causes a flood that they must escape from, but Sisu and her siblings are able to get Namaari and the lifts out of there.

With one stone collected, the lifts go to the land of Spine, a frigid forest. They go into a village and see Tong, who stands on a table with a child, rocking it to sleep. There, Tuk-Tuk is rolling outside of the village and through the forest. The lifts travel through a cave where a giant whale creature is seen. It blows its hole, spraying guests as they pass through. This is also where a bunch of Toot-Booms are, but they are easily avoided. Inside the cave is a lake. Sisu glows in the dark to help them navigate and then drives into the lake, forming a bubble around the lifts so they can go through without getting wet. In the lake, they find a lot of fish, as well as another Life Stone. They exit the cave and fly elsewhere.

The next place visited in the land of Talon, where they go over the rooftops of the market. However, pirates attack the market, sacking it of its gold. One man says how it was much easier to plunder when the lands were divided. Noi the Con Baby and the Ongis distract him while Sisu sneaks into the underwater passageways, the lifts following. Down there, they come across a bunch of squids who fill the room with gas. Sisu is able to ward them off and get a life stone, but upon escaping, they are taken by the pirates. Stuck with a hook, they have nowhere to go. Luckily, Boun shows up and cuts them loose. He says how Raya is waiting for them in Tail, so Sisu and the lifts go there.

In the desert of Tail, they come across Raya amidst the canyon, riding on a stolen convoy train where Spine mercenaries have the last Life Stone. After battling with several mercenaries, they get in front of the train and take the Life Stone. However, while escaping, the canyon collapses, but with the help of Sisu’s siblings, they escape.

The lifts return to Heart and head by the palace, where Chief Benja congratulates them. There, Tong, Noi, the Ongis, Namaari, Boun, and Raya are, thanking them for their help. Before letting them go, they decide to give the stones to the dragons to see what they do. The lifts then follow the dragons as they heal wounded and sick people as well as spread agriculture through several places. After that, they return to the palace and the ride ends.

POST-RIDE:
After guests get off the ride and gather their stuff, they exit through a tunnel back to the village. There, they come out at Treasures of Kumandra, a gift shop.

We shall finish up Asian Gulf tomorrow with its dining, shopping, and entertainment.

And now we come to the conclusion of this project, but before we bid farewell, let's see what else the resort has to offer:

  1. Downtown Disney: a shopping district for those who seek dining, shopping, and entertainment outside the parks.
  2. Splash Island: a themed waterpark similar to Volcano Bay, but more immersive.
  3. Several hotels such as the Magic World Hotel, Hollywood Hotel, American Deluxe Hotel, Pixar Palace Hotel, Parisian Hotel, and others.
Now, this project has been an interesting one with lots of pendulum effects. I've gone back and forth with several of these ideas, as I have noted in the introduction. I dunno what I will do next, but I feel like I should take a break from these forums for a bit, just for my own well-being (not telling you guys why, it's personal). I know this resort is not perfect, but it's very dear to me. I bet that it wouldn't happen, but it would be cool to see this dream become a reality one day.

As for now, this is where the trail stops. Hope you've enjoyed this presentation and perhaps I will come back with an improved version of it.

Splendid ideas for accommodations. Out of the group I'd really enjoy staying at the Hollywood Hotel. That definitely seems like my bag baby.

I know I finished this project months ago, but my life feels empty without it. I'm not pleased with my newer drafts of the resort because I feel like they lack my 'taste' to it, something I have only found in this resort. I want to do more with it. The question is 'what do I do?'
