Disney's Streaming Services: Disney+ (and Hulu, ESPN+, Star, & hotstar)

As I said they own 30% of Rainbow, but it’s Nick that has the rights in the US. Also if any trade were to happen it would be for Indy not any of the Rainbow content.

So again no way Disney gets their hands on that content, nor would I think they’d want it.

My jealously against Warner Bros.-owned Hanna-Barbera-produced 1980's The Smurfs animated series. That show was iconic.

Completely off topic, but the original Danger Mouse was one of my daughter's favorite programs. Somewhere I have a photo of her at around age 2 dressed up as him for Halloween. She turned 36 today. Crikey! :)
I'm 5 years older than your daughter - was one of my favorites too.. Great show, but I haven't seen it in about 30 years so I wonder how it holds up...

I'm wondering the same thing for my childhood favorites from Disney Afternoon (Gummi Bears, classic Ducktails, C&DRR, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck...). Seeing them again on D+ will be fun, and I wonder how my son will take to them (he likes the new incarnation of DuckTails quite a bit...)

I bought the Danger Mouse dvd sets more than a decade ago but haven't watched them in ages. Re-watched all of Ducktales recently and loved it. Count Duckula was out of print years and years ago but I would absolutely love to be able to watch that show.

they also listed everything that's coming to disney+ on day one, tweet by tweet (it ended up being a total of 629 tweets over a period of nearly 4 hours)

here's a list of everything that was announced:

Thanks. Just signed up for it yesterday. There's hopes of the original '50's Mickey Mouse club nor the Disney Goofy shorts in the future, but as long as they have the nature movies, Dexter movies, and Herbie, that man I married will be happy.
He loves the corny live actions.

Still missing a LOT of legacy content besides the new ones tied to Netflix and HBO from Disney and Fox respectively.

Off the top of my head:
  • Most Fox Stuff (PG-13 and lower)
    • Any Home Alone movie
    • Anastasia
    • Blue Sky movies
    • Fox Animation movies (Simpsons for example)
    • Sandlot 2, 3
    • Alvin and Chipmunks
    • Greatest Snowman
    • Planet of the Apes movies
    • Malcolm in the Middle (announced back in April, but not there for launch)
    • Office Space
    • Avatar
    • Etc
  • Touchstone/Hollywood (PG-13 and lower)
    • Signs
    • Sixth Sense
    • Gone in sixty seconds
    • Armageddon
    • Wild Hogs
    • Arachnophobia
    • Spy Hard
    • Etc
  • Disney
    • Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men's
    • Bedtime Stories
    • G-Force
    • Dinosaurs (90s TV show)
    • TinkerBell movies that are currently on netflix
    • Short film collection currently on netflix
  • Marvel (PG-13 and lower)
    • Lot of MCU movies
    • Non MCU movies like the X-Men ones from Fox
  • Star Wars
    • Ewoks specials
My guess is that a lot of these are still tied up in current contracts. However I also think that Disney will play it in a way to have a second and third wave of new movies and tv shows coming to the service. That will keep the hype up and drive new subscriptions IMO.

Some of these might go to Hulu as they are "harder" PG-13 movies like sixth sense and signs, but they have a lot of content still missing that will most likely be coming in the next few months and years.

It has Darby O'Gill and the Little People, and The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.

That's all it ever needs!

I'm starting to worry everything on Disney+ will be 16:9, including cropping scope movies and academy ratio content to make them "fit" modern phones and TVs. I know Disney and other companies still pan and scan movies for airlines and TV broadcast.

I was glad to be rid of "fullscreen" DVDs. Hopefully that's not the case here. Netflix does not do this AFAIK.

I'm legit curious about a couple of things that are on the list:
  1. Star Wars Clone Wars movie from 2008 and X-Men Evolution TV series is in Disney+. Both of those were originally distributed by Warner Brothers. Disney would have had to purchase the distribution rights or license them from WBs. It's feasible that they acquired rights when they were negotiating to break the Star Wars streaming contract that Warner had until 2024, especially given how much debt AT&T is under and these are not high priority properties for them. Coincidentally or not the whole Blade series (originally distributed by Warner) is also on Hulu right now.
  2. Wolverine and The X-Men TV show. Originally distributed by Lionsgate. Whether Disney acquired the distribution rights or licensed them, why wouldn't they also get the other Lionsgate Marvel animation work.

I'm actually a little curious about the appearance of classic cartoon shorts on the site (Mickey, Donald and the like). Since the initial list was put up in April, it has always touted "Steamboat Willie" as being available. During the "beta" period last month in the Netherlands, a small handful of shorts were featured. In addition to "Steamboat Willie", they included the following in the image below:
70118236_2386616331445831_4345634621463986176_n.jpg

In addition, the list also included (not those featured in the image above):

-Donald and Pluto (1936)
-Flowers and Trees (1932)
-Modern Inventions (1937)
-The Skeleton Dance (1929)
-The Three Little Pigs (1933)

All together, there were 13 shorts, which is quite slim as it is.

This list in this link shows all the stuff added to the overall list, with new ones added in bold, including the aforementioned shorts: https://attractionsmagazine.com/disney-plus-day-one-list/. However, it contradicts another list, which has the cartoons missing, save for "Steamboat Willie": https://collider.com/disney-plus-movies-tv-shows-originals/.

So what's going on? Are there going to be other classic cartoons on there, or will it just be "Steamboat Willie"?

There have been things seen in demos and in the Nederlander preview which isn't on this new list. So, I don't believe this new list is fully comprehensive. Or, it could be that some things are regionally locked for a while.

So does that include some of the cartoon shorts then? Are they regionally locked?
