Please note- I am not discussing the tragic events themselves. Rather, I've noticed WDW's varied social media accounts have been VERY quiet today. While I understand not posting the usual stuff, I am somewhat surprised they've not offered the "thoughts and support" line. Both Sea World and UNI have made statements, and yet Disney has not. The closest I have seen is from HOB Orlando.

It just seems odd to me, because I recall that in the wake of the Paris attacks, they had joined in with the condolences.

Frankly I find the silence disgusting, yet understandable. Disney's active fanbase is one of the oddest paradoxes of any company I know, uniting both the LGBT community as well as right-wing evangelicals through family-friendly content. So while behind the scenes Disney is more than happy to support the community, hire them, and/or take their money, they won't do anything publicly that could rile up the other side.

Only saying something here shouldn't be about riling anyone up - it should be about humanity. Which is why I still believe Disney should say something considering how strongly this event impacts Disney's employees, fanbase, Orlando, and the country.

I've noticed that's not always a company wide thing. Remember, it was the Muppets withdrawing from a Chick-Fil-A promotion that brought attention to that company's controversial stance on certain issues.

I still love my bumper sticker:
"To hell with the Baptists -
I'm going to Disney World!"

Yes
HOPEFULLY the silence is not anything that "strategic", and that their is another reason. Whether or not I agree with someone's life choices, doesn't change the fact that innocent lives were lost in a tragedy. Regardless of who was targeted or why, a life is still a life and lifestyle should not determine whether or not we care. Again, hoping and praying it is not some rediculous reason like what was suggested, especially being so close to their parks.

Another potential option: Disney is publicly trying to distance themselves as a destination from what happened. Perhaps thinking that people may avoid parks because it happened in Orlando. Just as dumb, but ive seen crazy PR stances over ideas like this.

Bob Iger has released a statement as quoted in Hollywood Reporter this afternoon:

Bob Iger, Disney CEO released a statement on the shooting: "We are all heartbroken by the tragic and horrific events in Orlando, and offer our thoughts, prayers and support to everyone in our community affected by this senseless act."

God bless the "Ignore" button.
The company may not, but individual Entertainment venues from all the theme parks are showing support on social media. It's cliché, but a lot of the gay community LOVES theme parks, and a lot of them LOVE Entertainment. I doubt there are any theme park performers who are more than two degrees separated from one of the victims.

Blood drives on property for guests and cast would be a substantive showing of love for the victims. Hashtags don't save lives.

While certainly something they could consider going forward, the local blood centers here in Orlando are already reporting they are overwhelmed by the outpouring of people donating and asking people to make appointments. All of their staff are at maximum right now and they could not support additional. Earlier they were looking for help with water, juice and snacks to support the mass number of people showing up to donate.
