Disney's Moana

So... not all Polynesians are fat? Huh. You think the criticism Disney has received about Moana that Disney was going to make all Polynesians look fat. And that's clearly not the case in that video. Huh. Seems those people were judging the whole movie based on a sample size of just two characters. I think there's a name for that...
Calling it now Disney's got another musical hit.

Perfect just the thread I am looking for. Now I am excited for Moana, especially since I am a huge fan of the Rock, I just have a real problem with Disney calling her their first Polynesian princess and totally disregarding Lilo. This looks like a Disney Polynesian princess to me.

You know what's funny?
Someone very close to me saw an early screening last night...I am putting spoiler tags, but it really isn't a big spoiler. I am giving no information about the movie plot itself or scenes, just what she thought of it and where it compares to previous Disney movies.
She thought it was a great movie and that the music was outstanding all the way through. The songs are all very well done and fit into the movie nicely. She said she found herself smiling through the whole movie and that she would put it around the same level as Tangled or just above.
Lilo isn't a princess but a kid in the 21st century......Also not a fairytale musical like Moana...

Another out and out hit for Disney Animation. I think it's safe to say we are hitting the prime of the third Golden period/Re-renessaince or whatever it is called.
It won't stay 100% on RT, but the score it is getting from critics are higher than Dr Strange, so mid-90s seems a safe bar.

Saw it with the family tonight and bought the soundtrack as I left the theatre- so so good! Beautiful animation and some terrific songs! I really enjoyed it! Not sure if I would put it ahead of Little Mermaid or Tangled but much better than Good Dinosaur or Princess and the Frog (hated Dinosaur but did enjoy Frog). The young woman who voiced Moana absolutely killed it! Wow!!!!!

Yeah, it was great. Didn't stay through the credits, but I can always check that out later.
Also, was anyone else getting a Tim Curry vibe from Jemaine Clements (Tamatoa the giant crab) during "Shiny"?

They do both have similar vocal timbre and Jemaine is copying 70's style glam/psychedelic rock, the era in which Tim sung.
Jemaine did a similar trippy song for an episode of Rick and Morty.
Dan Harmon, the creator of Rick and Morty was called in for comedic advice on Doctor Strange reshoots and extras.
It's the Circle of Disney Creative Talent Pool.

This movie was absolutely fantastic! Disney Animation is on a roll!! The music was so well done, very catchy, beautiful and fun songs. The animation was out of this world, and the story ever so perfect. Loved every moment of this movie.
