haven't kept up with this thread— exactly how well is this film doing? did it keep up domestically or did it trail off?
Oh stop…haven't kept up with this thread— exactly how well is this film doing? did it keep up domestically or did it trail off?
Oh stop…
It’s tracked behind the last 3 big ones by about only 40-60%lol, honestly I'm not being facetious, is it doing well? on par with the other remakes?
It made the same domestically on the third Monday. Exactly.I see, so overall looks to be slightly lower than Aladdin domestically. Fair enough
It’s tracked behind the last 3 big ones by about only 40-60%
It is showing dumbo who’s
Boss though
I think the best comparison from our recent memory will be - apparently the rob Marshall “formula” - Mary poppins returns
A movie praised for visuals and quality…but fell short with audiences vs expectations and ended up about flat as far as money.
Very similar. Remakes that tried to Hamilton their way to a billion but just looked a bit cynical.
That movie has aged as well as a Disney Star Wars…grumbles after the fact from
The actors…quietly cancelled sequels…and a lot of “what if?”
Lament

Aladdin ended up grossing about $500 mil worldwide than mermaid. Domestically maybe…maybe flush?
Notes taken. This is the second Little Mermaid tv series. The first lasted three seasons. Will this one? Time will tell. All the “this will lose money” and “what were they thinking” folks take note.
I’m gonna sorta disagree with this
They are attempting to recenter their draw to a world that is changing.
I don’t have a problem with that. It makes a lot of business sense.
Where they are 100% wrong is that they’re trying to take established characters and franchises and change THEM…because they’re too lazy or gutless to try and come up with originals to expand their stories.
That is wrong and doomed to failure. And we have very definitely examples of that and they keep trying to do it again and again.
Disney has to untrain people from expecting movies to be free on Disney Plus just a month or two after theatrical release.
I agree with you…and that’s why they’re lazy and failing so much.I agree with this, but they want to have their cake and eat it too, respectfully. On one hand they want to hold on to the brand power of popular IPs and established characters... but on the other hand they want new stories/characters that are more modern and reflective of today's society.... so what's the solution to this problem? they try to 'update' classic IP to be more representative of modern society, i.e. more diverse. I don't think that strategy is working, nor do I think it will begin to work any time soon, BUT I do think that is one reason why they've made the decisions that they have.
Creating new stories is great.. BUT it doesn't fit their current business model of focusing on brand appeal and existing IP. That will come to bite them in the butts eventually but I also don't see them changing course until they finish getting their licks. IF that
They’re gonna try to force ESPN on 8 years olds and charge mom and dad $49.99 a month…with commercials. That's easier said than done.
And they might as well put Mermaid on Disney+ sooner than later, because they've already uploaded "Part of Your World" and "Under the Sea" to YouTube.
But did you even see it, or are you just gloating ( for some reason) about what you perceive a failure? It did lose money…the financial times took note.
Now a Disney junior cartoon show? Yeah…that’s not a terrible idea. The Alice in wonderland one is really cute
What is your point? But did you even see it, or are you just gloating ( for some reason) about what you perceive a failure?
I guess you didn't get the memo that if you don't see a movie, you aren't qualified to do basic math. Silly you.And officially: I don’t typically see “live action remakes” in the theater. They’re creatively void and business lazy. The heirs to the much lambasted Eisner direct to video “cheapuels”…
I haven’t gotten that far…I’m still trying to understand how far less people than we ALL agree Disney wanted seeing this across the globe can be splained away with “China doesn’t like Black people”??I guess you didn't get the memo that if you don't see a movie, you aren't qualified to do basic math. Silly you.
You have been told multiple times by the moderators on here that you are not supposed to be posting on this thread unless you have seen the movie. What is your point?
Is it to start trouble?
Because the box office isn’t a matter of “opinion”…and beyond that…make a point that doesn’t suggest that somehow I don’t understand box office receipts.
That isn’t a point…much less so a “gotcha”
And officially: I don’t typically see “live action remakes” in the theater. They’re creatively void and business lazy. The heirs to the much lambasted Eisner direct to video “cheapuels”…
They’re just from smug Bob…whose “empire” is failing now in almost every segment of TWDC.
That’s the real problem…no illusions…in most threads with discussion for the last few years - actually.
I’m not sure that should be a requirement or that it’s a requirement for posting about how much money a movie is making. You have been told multiple times by the moderators on here that you are not supposed to be posting on this thread unless you have seen the movie. Based on your above response, it sounds like you have not seen it. And yet you continue to post trollish garbage about it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Had you seen the film, you would probably know that it is, for the most part, a gorgeous work of art, although you probably wouldn't admit it, even if you enjoyed it.
There’s a topic to this thread?Off topic but…
