I wonder how many other movies have had so many people hoping they would fail because of what they term Disney’s progressive agenda. Not calling out anyone here, but there was a lot of hate on social media.
Thing is that everyone knows this movie will be huge. Other movies with so-called progressive agendas have failed on their own so they didn't need people to pull them down.
Not so sure about that. Aladdin and Jungle Book were the only remakes to do that. And outside of that, Wakanda Forever didn't even come close, nor did any MCU movie.
I see more, they hope it fails, because they are sick of the remakes in general. Sure some aren't happy about Ariel, but first and foremost a lot of people are just plain sick of these adaptations.
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant how many movies that opened better like Mario, Ant Man, Fast X. Yes, I know there are other "progressive" Disney movies that provoked the same attitude.
They are this time. Last time they didn't like Strange World for other reasons. There will always be articulable reasons for disliking any particular movie, many of them sincere.
Funny thing is those people claim Disney is being political… I see it the other way around as they seem to be the ones protesting
Gotta ask this rhetorical question. I understand the remake fatigue. But I wonder if WB will get the same reaction when they literally remake 10-20 year old beloved live action Harry Potter films in TV form. I guess the question is do other studios get the same backlash over remaking movies as Disney. (at least these remakes are being done in a different style and form).

It's an interesting question. I'm sure they'll get some flack for sure. Will it be on the level that Disney gets it? Doubtful, since they haven't done it with near as many things. I think they get a pass on season one as long as they stay true to the books. If it starts down the rings of power path, look out, I can't see the Potter fans being all too silent. I'm not a Potter fan, at all, but I think this is way too early for a reboot.
Yea, and that 1st reboot didn't go over so great with fans either. It was good for the MCU though.
Agreed. Superheroes eventually need to be rebooted or recast. But having multiple batmans at the same time? Not a fan. And I love Batman.
That’s higher than predictions. Expectations were for around $100 mil domestically, but it’s looking like it might be $130. It wasn’t ever predicted to be in Marvel territory.

I don't think anyone could have ever predicted what is happening to TLM overseas-at least not until tickets went on sale in China and South Korea. I'd say that one was and always will be an absolute shock-especially South Korea. But it is what it is.
