Disney's Live Action The Little Mermaid

To get the next Frozen you have to take some risks.

These remakes are not risks.

At least they didn’t use to be.
True, but a few of the remakes have hit a billion + also. I don’t see any formula to explain what hits and what doesn’t, but enough hit to offset the ones that don’t so I get why they keep remaking everything to see what audiences rush to.

In my opinion of course

I feel it paced the story out much better than a 70 minute cartoon does. When I saw that this was made by Rob Marshall I did wonder what happened with Mary Poppins returns then as this TLM was great. Aladdin was my favourite to date but this has to eclipse it as it’s very well done

Cinema was jam packed

TLM was 90 minutes, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion

Personally I can't comment or whether or not this was an improvement because I haven't seen the film, but it's a little surprising to hear you say that to be sure

Well now it’s confusing

Is it “an improvement”…or “compliment”??

Not the same thing
I said it improved in many ways. I never claimed it was better than the animated.

Going to see it again in a few hours. Haven’t seen the animated version in a while (it’s not one of my favorites). My feelings on whether the live version is better or not will be determined after these viewings.

Agree - and yet they continue to burn through shareholder cash by doing it anyway.

Hence why the stock is now trading where it was nearly nine years ago.
Maybe Disney was willing to take that risk to do what was right…it warmed my heart to see more than a few black girls excited to see this rendition… representation matters

Besides I am sure they figured they would make up any profit losses after the theatrical window

Nope, I don’t think that at all.

However, stuff like this below does. I saw plenty more of crap like this online. Spider-Man is not seeing racist memes like this. It’s not getting review bombed. Were the other live-action remakes getting review bombed like Mermaid. I don’t think they were.

To pretend that race has absolutely nothing to do with what the film has faced from the announcement up until its release is very disingenuous.
First this is awful.

I do think we would see the same sort of terrible posts directed at any race if a movie race swaps.

Tribalism has been an awful but universal truth as far back as history records.

I also don’t think the idiots making these posts were ever going to see the movie to begin with. They have probably not left their Moms basement in 12 years.

I agree, to an extent. It’s possible that whoever made the memes would have gone to see the movie had the lead been white. We’ll never know.

Regardless, I’m happy that people are getting up and going to the movies in general, whether it’s to see Spider-Man, The Little Mermaid, or something else.

So is it the same 5 who were the only ones that didn’t like Rey and the last Jedi??

Wow…they stay “busy”, huh?

Ah ok, it felt a lot shorter but it’s been a year or so since I last saw it.

Like I said previously, it’s just my opinion but I loved it. Characters are much more fleshed out and at no pints did I feel it dragged.

I’m certainly going to go and see it again

Yep.

The Little Mermaid just plain looked awful. And that Scuttle rap written by the Lin Manuel-Miranda...YIKES. One of the most horrible "songs" I have ever heard. After hearing it, people on Twitter were cursing his name.

And, uh...how come Scuttle is female? Why? This penchant on the part of idiot Iger of changing a classic character's sex because...???? It's so stupid. It's so pandering. It's so cringey.

If Mermaid flops, I'll be thrilled. Because Disney has to stop doing this.

In like two years, Chapek and Iger have ruined the reputation of what once was the most wholesome family entertainment company on Earth.

Think about it. How criminal that is. What an affront it is to Walt Disney himself, who suffered two nervous breakdowns, used his own life insurance, and weathered incredible odds to build his company, and who never saw a tiny percentage of the money that pig Iger pulls down every year.

You guys wonder why I hate Iger and Chapek? FOR DAMN GOOD REASONS.

Are you for real?

Is this a parody post?

I saw the movie tonight with my sister and mom. We all loved it. Halle… Halle. My god. She had me crying throughout the movie. And Melissa McCarthy. Fantastic performance. The whole cast was very enjoyable. My sister pointed out that we had experienced a full-circle moment. Our mom took us to see all the Disney movies as kids, and now we returned the theaters together again to see a similar classic we’d seen many years ago.
Glad you enjoyed it! Please take a look at the “spoiler” thread (where I was directed by those who don’t feel this is the place to discuss the film itself) and let me know your thoughts on my last post there.
