Disney's Hollywood Studios Name Change

Why not just call it Disney Studios? The "Hollywood" could be dropped easily. The park's long-term vision is finally being realized, with various IPs in their own immersive territories. They even have an area set aside for more adult "thrill" rides in the Aerosmith/Tower of Terror zone.

It's no longer a studios park though.

While true, 'studios' also refers to a movie production company as well as the production site, as in "Which studio produced the best musical ever made, Xanadu?"

So, "Disney Studios" certainly works, dropping the "Hollywood." Except... they certainly seem to be doubling down on place-setting DHS in L.A., which would mean it's a Hollywood location. Right now, DHS is more California than California Adventure.

Based on what? The biggest name in the studio park concept is Universal Studios and they haven’t bothered to include production facilities since Universal Studios Florida opened. Japan and Singapore aren’t production facilities. Beijing won’t be a production facility. Dubai, Korea and Moscow were not supposed to be productions facilities. Granada Studios and Fox Studios Australia are hardly well remembered names.

Um, because there are no studio productions anymore?

I state the obvious and people want to argue. The name will change and it won't have "studios" in it. Sigh....

I don't know if that will the be the case, however, we're telling you that there is another meaning for studio, i.e., a movie production company. Disney has at least six studios under its corporate umbrella, and I'm not referring to theme parks. A theme park can be called Knottsbury Farms and not actually be a farm. And Animal Kingdom is not actually a kingdom. A theme park based on movies produced by studios can be called a studio theme park. Yeah, it's confusing because there are also theme parks built around actual and active studio lots, which was the origin of studio theme parks, but they don't have to be. Just like Disney World isn't an actual world.

Actually it seems that just the proper punctuation might solve that problem. Disney Studio imply singular reference of the studio that produced a number of movies, etc. By making it Disney's Studios makes it a possessive. In other words, studios owned by Disney. That would cover anything that was originated by Disney or IP's acquired by Disney over time. It will be interesting to see what they actually do come up with.

Good point. But didn't one park recently lose its apostrophe? DCL? It was about a month ago.

Edit: DCA?

Apostrophes missing. "The"s removed. Pretty soon, it will all just be one unique glyph, just like with Prince.

Ah yes, I remember when Mickey stepped in and picked this symbol instead of a name. Which of course, not being pronounceable, we simple call it "The park formerly known as Disney Studios".

I'm on board. Though it will have to be red as opposed to purple. Just seems right.
