DisneyPhD family does AKV May 2nd to 10th 08

Disney PhD family AKV May 2nd to the 10th 2008
Cast:
Me, (Mrs.PhD.)
DH, Paul (the Real Disney PhD)
Anna, just turned 7 years old, her 13th time to WDW
Lily 3 years old, her 6th trip to WDW

Later in the trip, our friends (same age) with 2 sons, the same age as our DD’s.

WDW 2008 AKL May 2, to the 10th.

May 2nd, Leave DTW at 10:50 on SWA. We jumped our 1st big hurtle at the airport. Lily used an auto flush potty with the help of a Mickey shaped post it note. The note wasn’t as sticky as I would have hoped, but it did the trick. No problems flight on time and the girls behaved very well. Anna played on the laptop and Lily watched a DVD. Magical Express went well and we were at AKL by 3:00. Our room was ready when we got there, but turns out I didn’t pack the girls bathing suits in the carry on, so we could not swim and I wanted to stick around because our grocery delivery should be here soon. We went down and got some food at Mara the counter service place. I was able to pull off the order info for Garden Grocer on the laptop and give the place a call at 4:00. They called shortly to let me know it was at bell services. Before they brought that the DME brought the luggage so the girls got dressed to swim and I stayed to unpack. Garden Grocer got a few things not right, but it all works out. I wasn’t able to give them a tip, so I don’t feel as bad about that. All in all I would recommend them to others.

Our room (studio DVC 5508 on the 5th floor facing the Uzima Savanna (the south one, not the main Arusha Savanna.) Still we have a number of animals out there and 2 baby giraffe. One is 6 months old, the smallest one was born on Leap Day 2008. The pull out couch is big and roomy, there is a flat panel T.V. and DVD player and cables for the internet. We can see the tip of blizzard beach summit plummet from the room too. Yes there were mugs and glasses in our studio. Good thing or I would have been calling about it.

I get unpacked and find a few things I thought about packing, but turns out I didn’t. Such is life, at least we didn’t forget anything major. I think that is part of the 1st day, making peace with what you left behind.

Met the kids and Paul down at the pool. Anna has gone down the slide twice already. It is warm, with big puffy clouds. After a bit of swimming back up to the room for a rinse off and change to head out to Epcot. The line at guest services was long and not moving too fast. There were issues with people from the media trying to get in and not being able to. I thought it was about the marathon, but we find out later it was about Disney channel stars. We need to buy new AP and a Disney Dinning Experience card. There was a long line at guest services, but we got our passes and also found out the old park hopper I brought with us has 2 park days on it and 3 water parks or DQ or PI passes on it. The sting of the 4 AP weren’t so bad with the DVC discount and close to $400 of Disney Visa points.

Once we got in Epcot it was really busy and we were hungry and tired so like crazy people we walk through WS to exit and head over to beaches and cream for dinner. It was crazy busy just past Canada. I asked a guard and I guess “the stars of the Disney channel shows were going to walk by.” It was so busy we just kept walking. I guess they have been here all week. We keep walking and leave the park for Y&BC. Beaches and cream isn’t too bad, but there is a 20 min wait. We get a beeper and I take the girls to use the bathroom. I load a card for the arcade with just a dollar on it, but before we can play a game, our beeper goes off.

Lily fell getting into the restaurant. It was clear this little girl was tired. She wanted her food now. We ordered 2 kid meals (hamburger and cheeseburger) and a burger for Paul and I. Paul brought Anna back to the arcade to play her game while I cuddled Lily. Our food came shortly after that. It was after 8:30 by the time we were done. There was a party going on at the main Y&BC beach and we walked past it to head back to Epcot just in time to get back in to see Illuminations. The girls danced with daddy to the music as we left the resort area. Both girls were very impressed by the fireworks, in the past they were more scared. We watched it near the international gateway and then walked over in front of Canada to finish off. We ended up with fire works aftermath in our face, but the show was good. It was Extra Magic Hours, so we fought the crowd over to Future world, Journey Into Imagination was not working so off to the Living Seas we went. It was a walk on to Nemo. Lily did not want to ride, but daddy offered to carry her and she was fine. She loved it. After we saw turtle talk. The girls loved it. It was so late we were actually a bit slap happy. The bus ride home was typical end of the park but we managed. :snore:

Thanks! They are really easy. You just draw an outline of the shape you want (mickey head). We used old plates from WDW that the kids meals come in, and my napkin holder that is in the shape of mickey head (from Disney Store.) Just baste (loosely sew) the outline with dental floss. Pull it tight and then wrap rubber bands around it. Tye die the rest as normal, but make sure your mickey head stands out, has some white around it and is in a different color then the rest. If you don't get the color in far enough it won't turn out (you can see on DH's one ear isn't fully there.) The girls say it is a mickey bar with a bite out of it. I sewed the Mickey heads for my friend, but she died it and didn't do it in just one color so it does not stand out all that well.

Some of them that the ears did not turn out all the way I re-sewed and died before that worked out fine.

Captinhook, no kidding. :zipit: That was really the only bad thing we saw. I think the group thought, lets just rent these and take it easy. She had no idea how bad it could go. I am so glad the cm wasn't hurt. It could have been very bad.

We have a number of them. Some are great, some just ok. My original one is still my favorite, but the colors aren't as strong any more. The girls wore their old tank tops during the day, and their new T shirts at night.

Here it is another day. It was a busy one too. :)

May 7th

Epcot day. Anna wore Aurora dress over her tank top and shorts, but took it off before we ever got on the bus. It was hot. Lily wore a Tinkerbelle costume and kept the thing on the whole day much to my surprise. She was so cute I could not stop taking picture of her.

Paul ran over to get fast passes for Sorin (8, so the bigs could ride once with the dad’s and once with the moms. The mom’s rode MS with the bigs (who were dying to go again.) We did the mild version, and in all reality I don’t need to go again unless it is full throttle. We played in the butterfly garden and over to Garden Town (set over where wonders of life was.) There really was a lot in there. Lily was a thrilled to find manual flush potties.

It was time for the Sorin fast passes. The dad’s and bigs headed in, and the mom’s and littles went over to ride Nemo. Once it was time for us to ride, the kids were very hungry. If we waited until we were done eating, we would miss our fast pass window, so I went over to it and asked the cast members if we could ride after lunch. They said that would be fine (I knew they used to let you use them after the given time before, but were cracking down on that.) We eat at Sunshine fair (is that still the name of it?) It was rather crazy (as it is always is.) We mostly went with pre-made stuff to get it faster. While we went off with the big kids to ride Sorin, the dads and littles headed over to Journey into Imagination. I can’t believe I got my friend to ride 2 new rides in one day. Both really were worth it and not to be missed (as she has in the past trips.) The kids loved it. After we called the dad’s on the cell phone (thank goodness for those) and meet them over by the fountain. The bigs wanted to ride JII too so we all did it again. (No honey I shrunk. The kids didn’t want to see it.)

My friend wanted to wait for the 1:30 Disney Visa free picture at Inoventions (her son loves the characters.) So we hung out in there. The line was starting to form, so we got in it before it got big. I forgot my Visa (just the room card) so we were just going to get us all in one time. Just as we were about to go in, Lily said she had to use the potty. I knew she didn’t. She had used it 2 times already this morning and wasn’t having any troubles. Still Paul ran off with her (with out getting a sticker form me.) I told the cm to let him in if he came before we were out. Just Minnie and Mickey in there. My friends son had fun. When we got out, Paul and Lily were sitting there. He was so ed because she freaked out and wouldn’t use the potty, he tried to cover the sensor with his hand, but her Tinkerbelle dress kept getting in the way. It was frustrating for everyone. Turns out she really didn’t need to use it (I could of told you that.) She was nervous about seeing Mickey. (I could of told you that too.) I knew if I held her and she had time she would come around (she has at every time so far.) Oh well.

We wanted to leave FW, tour WS and head over to MGM (oops I mean Hollywood studios, Anna would correct me) for Early ADR’s at Sci-Fi. The mom’s headed to the photo place for her free print, but the images where not loaded. The dad’s got the kids ice cream, still didn’t load, used the bathrooms (cleaned up the ice cream), no images (some were there, but not the ones she wanted.) So we headed over to WS. Last night we bought the big Epcot passports and the kids wanted to get them stamped.

We did the super fast tour of WS starting at the Mexico end. We were in a hurry to get over to DHS on time (4:15) ADR’s. Find the stamp place, in and out. Spent some time in Germany looking at the dolls, trains and getting some chocolate for later. We passed the stand in France that had the drink I wanted, but this was not the time for it. Off to studios via the boat. It was long and hot, but Lily fell fast asleep in the stroller (still in Tinkerbelle.) My friends youngest son didn’t (we were all hoping he would, he is one who really needs naps.) We were rather late for our ADR’s but that was fine. We got in and transferred the sleeping Lily. They had 2 cars that were 6 seat tables for us, but we felt we could squeeze the 8 of us in 1. I think they were happy about that as the place was full.

Our waitress was great. The bigs sat in the front seat, then the parents with one 3 year old in each seat. Anna and her friend were mesmerized by the whole thing. They were in their own little world (my friends DH loved it too.) I was shocked that this was our calmest and most relaxing meal of the whole trip. It wasn’t rushed, loud or crazy. My friends son fell asleep as the food came and Lily woke up. She loved the waitress. The food was good, it was a great meal. We all had a blast. My friends son slept for a while and he got his rest too.

Lily had to use the potty (hey no auto flush, twice in one day both in parks.) As I was standing at the sink she just bashes her head into it. :brick:No reason no warning. I asked her why and she said through the tears “because I wanted too.” That is one stubborn kid. Couldn’t even say “I don’t know what I was thinking.” Still she was so cute, everyone kept stopping us and playing with her.

The big kids rode Space Tours again (this time Anna was brave enough to do it.) While mom’s and littles saw Muppets. Anna has this odd phobia with Muppets (I know strange) so it was just as well. The littles loved it. There was a toddler in the waiting area that loved me. I mean really was infatuated with me, it was funny. She was a cutie.

After we did the back stage tour. It was funny my friend just realized that since I was the group photographer she should take one of me sometimes. I told her not to worry, Anna and Lily does every so often and I would just crop them later. J

We escaped getting wet at the tank area, but my friend’s son really had to use the bathroom so by time we got on the tram, we were the very last row in the very last car. The seat was all wet and I knew that was not a good sign. My friend’s oldest son was at one end, Paul at the other side. They both were drenched. My friend thought it was funny since he could of peed his pants and no one would have known.

After we figured we could wait around for 2 hours for Fantasmic, or we could go back to the resort to swim. Guess what won???

Night swimming at the resort was a blast, the kids actually got to sleep in PJ’s tonight. I did a few loads of laundry and had a nice chat with another mom in the laundry room so I ended up missing most of the swimming, but it was a great night. Still we decided it was much easier to have them asleep when they enter the room. I also was able to load the pictures on the computer, but the internet was not working still.

Ok guys, time to get this trip report going again. This time BB!

May 8th,

Sleep in day and off to Blizzard Beach. The weather has been perfect all trip. Today was no exception. It’s nice not to be in a rush to get to the park. Since we have AP we had to buy tickets to the water park. Also they only have 2 stroller or HC entrances, one on each side so it took me a while to get in with the stroller. We almost left it behind, but brought it just in case. I had an old park hopper with water park extra days left on it, and I was able to use it fine. Weather was hot and sunny, with a bit of a breeze. We realized that you have to “rent’ towels here and there was a long line so the one beach towel and one hotel towel we brought was going to have to be enough for us. We headed over to tikes peak and found some seats in the shade (and sand) and the kids run off to the water slides. Lily and her friend had fun on the small slides and Anna and her friend check it out too. It was a good place for them to work up some nerve (since they are both on the reserved sides about things like that.) After a bit the dads took the bigs over to “training camp” the area for kids 7 and up while the mom’s and littles stayed at tikes peak. We looked for them when we went to explore the wave pool, but didn’t see them. It took a while to coax Lily into the waves, but she did get on a tube with me.

We headed back to the chairs to see if the others were back. We were just about to give up and go to lunch when the dads and kids showed up so we went for lunch. We brought our cooler bag so Lily ate out of there mostly, but we bought lunch for DH and I split along with a kids meal.

After lunch we reapplied sun screen and the whole group headed out to the lazy river. Anna is very good at saying “Look at all the lazy people on the lazy rivah.” Just like Stacey does on the resort T.V. We were about half way around when Lily started to cry and would not stop. She said she had sand in her eye, but we could not see anything. DH used normal sunscreen on her face and I think it slid into her eyes (I normally use the face stick kind.) She cried the rest of the way with him holding her, I think she was tired too. The mom’s and littles got off at tikes peak the dad’s and bigs went around again. After a while Lily was fine and my friend’s son laid down in the stroller to nap. He might of too if Lily hadn’t kept him up. They played in the sand (no throwing this time!) After a while I decided to go check on the bigs with the camera and came up to the bridge just as they were coming around. I had perfect timing, but they didn’t feel like posing Oh well.

They headed off to training camp and I went with them (leaving my friend with the littles) My friends 7 year old son saw the zip line and was mesmerized by it. He wanted so badly to ride it but didn’t have the nerve. He just stood frozen looking at it for like 5 min. Little kids were doing it too (some with life jackets on because you drop about 4 feet into deep water. One kid did it, hit the end and then did a flip into the water. His dad got it on video tap. We all cheered. The kids did the slides and ice floe course and then wanted to ride team boat springs (again apparently they had done this a few times. That must be why I could not find them when I went to look before.) I went with them, but I had my crocs with me and everyone else was bare foot. The ground was HOT. The line wasn’t too bad and it was a fun ride but apparently the fun of it if you are a dad or 7 year old was yelling about how we are all going to die the entire way down. Once was enough with that group for me. They wanted to ride again so I headed back to my friend and the littles.

They were just hanging out, in fact my friends son wanted to leave and was tired. The bigs played for a while and when they finally came back wanted to go to the wave pool. I told them they could for a few min, and when we all got there the littles were having a blast too. I hated to pull them away, but once again dinner ADR’s had to be met. This time it was for 5:10 at Boma so I wasn’t too worried about it. We did have to wait a while for the bus, but we were all able to take showers and get clean and head down to dinner. In fact we were there before our friends, and our table was ready when we all arrived.

This was everyone’s 1st time to Boma. Our waiter was great (Loren). He said “you guys should have been here earlier in the week, all the Disney channel stars were here and staying at AKL”. We said we were here earlier, so it turns out we stayed at the same resort as Hannah Montana (and the rest) but did not realize it at the time. I am going to be looking for what ever it was they taped later

Boma was a great meal. We all enjoyed it and everyone was able to find something they really enjoyed eating. I came back from the dessert table and proudly announced that everything on my plate contained alcohol. It was yummy!

After dinner my friends wanted to hit DTD and Disney Quest. My family wanted to do a park (why go to DTD if you could do a park with AP?) Plus we didn’t have DQ tickets so we were off to MK. Can’t go wrong with MK right? Lily even wore her Minnie Mouse costume.

Once there we headed to tomorrow land and TTA and then over to toon town to take some pictures in Minnie’s house. We did tea cups and Lily felt ready to ride goofy again. This time she rode with dad, and Anna with mom. We did a few other things before heading out. We left before the fireworks and didn’t have as hard of a time on the bus tonight. The long bus ride back to the resort with sleepy kids on a packed bus was taking its toll on us. Both girls were fast asleep when we got back to the room, but we changed Lily into P.J’s no sleeping in a Minnie mouse costume. I took the funniest picture of the 2 of them in bed sideways and almost on top of each other. They both roll a lot in their sleep. :lookaroun
