Disneyland's Matterhorn 50th Anniversary

Today, June 14th, 2009 is Disneyland's Matterhorn 50th anniversary ! No kidding! The beloved DL attraction opened 50 years ago on June 14th 1959 and since then the ride is one of DL guests favorite...

Very cool! I think this is the anniversary of the Monorail, too...I remember seeing a Disney Channel 'News Report" with Walt dedicating the Mono AND the Matterhorn.

Don't forget the Submarine Lagoon opened in 1959 too!

The '59 expansion was the biggest expansion in Disneyland history.

I was at DL yesterday and although there was no ceremony (none that I was aware of, at least), Disneyland Security were giving out special "We're turning 50 today!" pins showing the subs, monorail, and Matterhorn. I'll post a picture of them later, if I get the chance.

I'd like to see a pic of one of those pins, too. If I remember right, the opening of those 3 attractions in 1959 was a televised event, with Richard Nixon (VP at the time under Eisenhower) on hand for the festivities.

i think that they need to go in and redo the track and cars on the matterhorn so that it's a smoother and more comfortable ride
