Disneyland's Marketing Strategy for 2020??? Because 2019 Was A Mess!

While most of his videos are far too extreme and outlandish for my liking, I actually think his Galaxy's Edge commentary is mostly pretty good.

I actually watched this vlog, which I never do because Disney vlogs are worse than everything except Ghostbusters (2016) and Independence Day: Resurgence, but I had one question on my mind. If they went to the one in California and found it to be such a disappointment, why go to the one in Florida, which is the same?

Not hard to know if you minimally kept up. Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers is in Florida area and came to Anaheim. So he naturally went to see the Florida one after it opened. At least half the vloggers are in Florida. And you won’t know if they’re exactly the same, which they aren’t, until you seen it.

Whatever marketing message they are creating this fall in a panic, they absolutely have to get out from underneath the "Reservations Required!" reputation they created for themselves.

That's really turned into a huge weight around their neck it seems to me. It's just scared away so many people.

If they can get out from underneath the unfortunate marketing vibe they created that rightly or wrongly was perceived by consumers as "Disneyland Is Hell! Reservations Required! Don't Even Try If You Aren't Fully Committed!", and if the Resistance ride really is the most amazing thing in the world like they've built it up to be, then they have a shot at recovering.

But it just seems to me that regardless of how awesome the Resistance ride is, regardless of how underwhelming the Falcon ride is, regardless of how lifeless the land feels without entertainment and music, regardless of whether snack bar employees and shop clerks say "Bright Suns!" enough, and regardless of whatever "Trilogy" is or is not offered, their marketing message needs a full and thorough reboot and rethink.

Hi gang. I've been absent for the past few days because I had to fly up suddenly this past weekend to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho of all places for a family issue. (That resort town is heavenly after the summer crowds leave!) While sitting in the Spokane airport's restaurant this morning waiting to fly home, I noticed on the lounge TV that two different Disneyland commercials played. One was a generic HalloweenTime commercial with Oogie Boogie, and one was that Plaza De La Familia commercial we were making fun of last week.

Sorry to hear about your family issues. I will actually be up in Coeur d'Alene this coming weekend to see my mom (she's in a home) who I haven't been able to see in 2 years. My brother is also up there so really looking forward to seeing the town.

Thank you. It was a sudden trip, but all turned out okay. And Coeur d'Alene, which I hadn't visited in over 20 years, is still beautiful. Fall is wonderful there, so crisp and dry and sunny.

Also some great new restaurants, or updated old classics, whereas in the 1990's I remember it was only just Beverly's on top of the resort tower and the Cedars floating restaurant for fine dining. Instead, we went to Satay Bistro for an impromptu family reunion dinner, and every single course was fantastic! And of course because it's not Southern California, you get some truly genuine and gracious hospitality without the big dollop of attitude you so often get at similarly trendy places in Irvine or Newport Beach. https://www.sataybistro.com/home

So I'm even more confused. We knew about the upcoming Behind The Scenes special, but it looks like they a planning a full company-wide push for RotR:

https://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201909/7020/

Isn't this saying don't come during the next 2 months cause RotR won't be open yet? I understand parks often advertise new attractions before they open to grab some summertime vacation planning, but are the WDW holiday reservations so low they feel the need to do this now?

It's her fault! Not some guy named Bob.

Maybe it was the drugs???

>>A Swiss man who went missing over the weekend after falling into a Disneyland Paris lake while allegedly under the influence of LSD was found naked and confused after a 130-person search-and-rescue effort, according to French media reports.

The 32-year-old man was reported missing Friday night by his 30-year-old girlfriend, who told police her boyfriend fell into an Adventureland lake and didn’t resurface after she gave him the hallucinogenic drug, Le Parisien reported.

The woman alerted theme park officials that the man was missing and a search party was quickly formed with 30 firefighters, 10 divers, 10 policemen, 80 Disneyland Paris employees and a police helicopter with a thermal-imaging camera.<<

Wow... Something other than spending more time with their family....

>>Catherine Powell, who ran the U.S. and Paris theme parks for Walt Disney Co. during the opening of two new Star Wars lands, is leaving the company.

The 15-year veteran is departing to do something different, Disney said Monday. She couldn’t be reached for comment.

Powell was credited with reinvigorating the company’s two Paris parks with new attractions. She also worked in Disney’s TV division earlier in her career.

Her position has been eliminated, and the heads of the individual resorts will now report directly to Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney’s Parks, Experiences and Products division.

Disney, the world’s largest theme-park operator, unveiled two of its largest resort expansions ever this year. The $1 billion, “Star Wars”-themed Galaxy’s Edge opened at the company’s original Disneyland resort in Anaheim, California, in May. A second attraction opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park in Orlando, Florida, in August.

But domestic attendance fell at the parks during the three months ended June 30. Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger said in August that some guests may have put off visiting Disneyland because they feared the new attractions would lead to big crowds.

In addition, hotels in Anaheim raised prices in anticipation the opening, and Disney opened Galaxy’s Edge with only one of its two big rides in operation. “That said, guest satisfaction interest in the attractions in the land is extremely high,” Iger said.<<

>>Walt Disney Co. said on Monday Catherine Powell, president of Disney Parks West, is leaving the company.

Powell, who was in charge of Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World and Disneyland theme parks, spent 15 years with the company and her position is now being eliminated, the company said, without providing further details.<<

>>Her departure also stands in contrast to Disney CEO Bob Iger in a New York Times profile on Sunday promising to put more women in top executive positions at the Hollywood studio, with an eye to greater gender parity.<<

So is Bob Chapek identifying as Female now?

>>The announcement had a ripple effect on the top positions at Disney theme parks around the globe as the company shook up its leadership ranks following the launch of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in California and Florida. The debut of highly anticipated Galaxy’s Edge themed land in Anaheim resulted in lighter-than-expected crowds this summer and a drop in attendance at Disneyland.

Chapek dismissed suggestions that attendance for the Star Wars lands has been lackluster as “erroneous” and described the twin Galaxy’s Edge projects in California and Florida as a “runaway success.”

“I will tell you that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has exceeded every expectation we’ve had,” Chapek told CNBC. “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is doing extremely well and I am very optimistic for not just the next quarter, but for future years.”<<

I think the other issue is that the airlines are so pricey. I had a very hard time finding flights in Jan- Mar for an August trip to WDW. I was seeing flights for $600 when a few years ago, I paid $280. Forget California, the prices were worse. When u add all that up for a family, it’s time to take a break from travel to save up.
