Disneyland's 60th Birthday: Rumors, Speculation and News

It sounds like they are planning something bigger then the Blue Sky Cellar

That, and I think they want the 60th exhibit for Disneyland to be in...Disneyland.
Makes sense. Is Innoventions bigger than Blue Sky Cellar? So, I guess DL is still going with a nostalgia based 60th? I know that word: nostalgia was tossed around when there was talk of MSEP going home for the 60th. But with the rumors now of PTN-like Parade/New Pyro/New WOC, I don't see munch nostalgia there now. Unless their focusing the new WOC on nostalgia and promoting the Fantasyland rides including the Christmas Star for the Matterhorn.

Although the fireworks and night parade will be "new" they are a nostalgic entertainment offering. The return of the night parade in particular will rekindle memories of Disneyland's past and Steve's nighttime spectacular will WOW audiences in way that hasn't been seen since Remember came online.

Nostalgia is a feeling that can be captured. The very definition is to remember the past and yearn to experience that feeling again.

With the night parade, fireworks, and plussed Fantasyland dark rides - this summer will cut to the very heart of every Disney Parks fan.

*Wow - did I just make myself feel even less enthused about heading off to WDW tomorrow as I think about what will happen this summer at DLR or what?

Big news from MiceChat today. Here's the Editors Note on the front page today...

"Editor’s Note: January 21, 2015: Diamonds for Innoventions – As TDA gets ready for the big 60th Anniversary media event next Wednesday night, they are also squeezing in another addition to the rest of 60th offerings that have already leaked. The lower level of Innoventions will soon close to transform into a new exhibit celebrating the park and its nostalgia-fueled Diamond Celebration."

Wow. This should be interesting...

I want to say back before the 50th was announced that something similar was rumored for Innoventions or the Circle Vision Theater(before Buzz became a thing) there was even some concept art that made its way out.

Nope.
Yet to have visited.

Came close a few years ago when i was in Orlando visiting friends, but to date i have never set foot in any Universal Park personally.
CityWalk in Orlando, yes...once with friends.
Parks...nope.
Usually came down to time and money constraints, but i have certainly been aware of all that has gone on there over the years as far as their rides and shows go.
You would love most of Uni, especially Potter, even if you've read the books or not. the level of detail is astounding. As is the quality.

WOW. That'll get me into Innoventions for the first time. Last time, I just climbed the ramp to see the old COP building and take pictures of the Matterhorn from on high.

Sadly, DLR isn't immune to stupid, though we seem to get less of it overall than WDW.
Yeah, New Orleans Square and Tomorrowland seem to be the only places where you've been WDW'd.

So we have the nighttime parade and the fantasyland dark rides upgrades. Is there more?
Paint the Night is pretty much all but officially confirmed by Disney, at this point.

Nothing's been announced yet.
That what worries me. All the rumors are Great! And sounds very sure and promising, But we really don't know what DL will say next week.

I didn't think about Nostalgia that way, good point.

You shouldn't feel less enthused about WDW tomorrow, MK has MSEP and Wishes now and DL won't have theirs until mid May.

I needed to add that the posting of casting auditons for "Disneyland's New Night Parade" last month, makes PTN or something else, just about certain to happen.

Yeah, but Wishes and IllumiNations have each been around for more than a decade now. MSEP has been partying like it's 1776 for over 3 decades now. That isn't nostalgia you hear, that's the sound of apathy. I LOVE Wishes and IllumiNations and tolerate the MSEP (can't get over the loss of SpectroMagic due to neglect); but, it's time for a change. A large part of nostalgia is recapturing that feeling of being fresh/new/young. It's hard to do that when they keep carting out the same product year after year.

Despite being the older park, Disneyland does a great job feeling fresh and new. I wish the same could be said of WDW.

According to Screamscape, yesterday there were height test balloons flying over Toontown, the Circle D Ranch, Autopia and the Finding Nemo Submarines. Could this be another hint that Star Wars is coming to Toontown and the Circle D Ranch and that there could be a Tomorrowland redo on the horizon after the 60 year anniversary.

Most of our info has come from Miceage Updates over the last six months, with lots of backup and extra info provided by @GiveMeTheMusic .

But the basic rundown from Miceage on what is coming for the 60th Anniversary starting in May is this, in no particular order...

  • New night parade for Disneyland, based heavily on Hong Kong's new Paint The Night Parade
  • New fireworks show for Disneyland, done by Steve Davison
  • New World of Color show for DCA, done by Steve Davison
  • Upgrades to the Fantasyland Dark Rides (new animatronics, HD mapping, effects, audio, etc.)
  • Upgrades to Matterhorn Bobsleds (new Harold animatronics, lift and cavern effects, etc.)
  • Christmas star returns to Matterhorn, along with Nostalgia campaign touting old favorites and forgotten 'stuff'
  • Hatbox Ghost returns to Haunted Mansion
  • Luigi's Flying Tires closed and rebuilt into Luigi's Festival of the Dance (dancing car ride)
  • Soarin' upgraded to 4K projectors, Condor Flats rethemed to Grizzly Peak
  • Innoventions lower level redone to Disneyland nostalgia exhibit
  • Castle refurbed into sparkly diamond edition, diamond décor added throughout Resort

oooooh I like those ideas. It's really getting the old stuff back. I'm really curious about the hatbox ghost rumor! Also the dark rides sounds very interesting, as does the Luigi flying tire re-do. Is Alice in Wonderland getting another refurb or was that it?
