Getting this thread back on topic, rumors are that Disney is planning a nostalgia theme for the celebration. MiceAge is stating the star that used to sit atop the Matterhorn at during Christmas time when Walt Disney was alive is to come back. That's simple enough, I guess.

The Matterhorn star might be up for like six weeks. Surely they are planning other stuff too, nostalgia themed. But what?

I'm not a fan of the nostalgia push that continues at Disneyland. It's becoming too meta. Its a different angle of the parks having to be "Disney" mentality.

Well, the nostalgic thing could be done well. I think a great sort of promotion/celebration would be restoring long-lost features and effects to the park and attractions.

didn't they confirmed Jammin' jungle is definitively getting axed in june?
Yes I just meant that it's still running as of know, but will be gone soon. Also wanted to point out that @TP2000 forgot about DAK's new water show.

Sorry, back on topic now... The Matterhorn star topper sounds interesting. How many years did they originally top The Matterhorn with the star?

I didn't mention DAK's upcoming water show because it's still years (plural) away, with no actual announced year yet. Disney's official announcement May 2nd said it would debut "in the years ahead". http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...spectacular-coming-to-disneys-animal-kingdom/

No work has even begun on the new viewing amphitheater, or in show infrastructure in the Discovery River area. At best it may arrive in Summer 2016, or it may not show up until 2017 when Avatar opens. Thus, it doesn't get counted because it won't exist for at least several years.

The Matterhorn's Christmas star was in use every December from 1961 to 1972. It was cancelled for December, 1973 because of the Arab Oil Embargo that year and the sudden energy crisis. It never returned, most likely due to changing tastes more than energy use. It would be a very 1960's kitschy thing to have show up for Christmas 2015. I'm kind of going to be surprised if they actually do this as part of the 60th Anniversary.

I'm trying to figure out some things they could pull off as well.

They could bring back CircleVision in a temporary theater in a Cirque style tent. Maybe in the Frontierland arena, which could kind of, maybe, work thematically because they'd show America The Beautiful 360 and Frontierland is America themed?

Fantasy in the Sky, for sure.

Sure. But, quite frankly, that show will completely stink compared to the fireworks of the last 15 years. I remember Fantasy In The Sky well, and it was basically just 4 minutes of random fireworks thrown up into the air to supermarket Muzak versions of Disney songs and jingles, with a Lawrence Welk patriotic finale. It would seem really lame to 21st century audiences.

People would complain if they did this today...

That would work. They could also bring back The Golden Horseshoe.

Disneyland has posted an article/interview in regards to Steve Davison and the firework shows he's created for the park. At the end of the interview, Davison somewhat hints at a new firework show next year for the 60th:

And what is there to look forward to from Steve Davison? "Of course, the pressure is always there to deliver something better than the previous show. Our fireworks spectaculars are so incredible, even I sometimes wonder if we can top it—but I know we will. For now, Guests can look toward the 60th anniversary year. We have so much on the horizon—there are more immersive experiences to come."

I know you'll all think I'm completely nuts but I've always been totally fascinated by the old house of the future thing they had. How hard would it be to mock up some cool stuff and show us a half-n-half retro-vintage home of the future with a truly modern home of the future? Like do a kitchen in mirror: half retro, half modern. I'd love to see something like that!

I agree, I'm fascinated by the House of the Future as well. It would be even more interesting if they were to bring it back today. I'd be be all for it.

“Disney Paint the Night”, the brand new nighttime spectacular is coming in October 2014!
It all begins with Mickey’s Magic Paintbrush…

Excited? Stay tuned with our Facebook or Instagram (hkdisneyland) for more updates!

From Twitter-
A look at one of the floats?

Rumours of Paint the Night: A sister night parade will come to Disneyland for 60th Anni. 2 parks had been bargaining for the better floats.

Thanks @nemofinder22 ! First came the information about a new night parade from Miceage, and now there's rumors on Twitter that Hong Kong Disneyland's upcoming new night parade will be cloned for Anaheim too. Since less than 1% of visitors to Anaheim will ever visit Hong Kong, I'm okay with that.

An all new night parade for the 21st century sounds vastly better than recycling the same old Nixon-era Electrical Parade again. Technology has progressed far beyond chicken wire strung with Christmas tree lights circa 1972.
