If EPCOT were in CA rather than FL I would go to Disneyland every year rather than WDW. Spaceship Earth is what keeps me comin' back to Florida. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the secluded feeling of WDW... but Disneyland blows the MK out of the water, and I visit MK and Epcot much more than the other two parks.

If only they'd bring back the Peoplemover...

There's no peoplemover at Disneyland?

Nope. It ran from 1967 to 1995, was reopened as the thrill ride Rocket Rods in 1998, but Rocket Rods was horribly problematic and spent the next two years in and out of rehab for months at a time (sounds like a trashy celebrity), before it was finally put out of its misery and closed for good in April, 2000.

There have been proposals to put something else up there on the beam more like the original PeopleMover rumored to be based on transportation systems featured in The Incredibles, then Wall-E, and now Tron 2.0, but thus far nothing has been given the greenlight.

You can still see the tracks around much of Tomorrowland.

For those looking to do extra-credit Rocket Rods homework over the weekend, details of the Yesterland attraction can be found here http://www.yesterland.com/rocketrods.html

I'm the same way. Many folks I'm friends with are, actually. If it weren't for a few of the remaining Opening Day attractions in Epcot, I wouldn't be returning to WDW either. Especially after I discovered how amazing Tokyo Disney Resort is a few years ago.

But without Epcot Center and some of the pavilions there, I would no longer have any reason to go back to WDW.

My husband and I are visiting my sister, soon - she lives in CA. I've been out there before but never visited Disneyland. We're planning to take a day and visit and I'm curious, but I feel like I'm cheating!! We LOVE WDW and have visited many times -- Ok, I'll admit it, we're DisneyWorld snobs. Whenever my sister mentions Disneyland, we're like "PUHLEASE...it's can't be the same as WDW."

I love all things Disney and we've visited Downtown Disneyland before but never gone inside the park. I was so disappointed by the area surrounding Disneyland - it seemed so seedy and not "Disney-like" at all.

I realize this is a big reason Walt built WDW -- to make up for the mistakes he made with Disneyland, but I still feel like I'm cheating on WDW by having a little Disneyland on the side - LOL!

Anyways - since we'll be visiting, I guess I'll have to get over it, enjoy Disneyland for what it is (since it IS Walt's first park) and see what it's all about. I'm sure I'll be comparing the two Magic Kindom's the entire time, though.

Anything I must do or see while I'm there? I can't go on any of the FAST/JERKY rides due to an injury, but I have to admit I'm looking forward to the "original" small world -- even though it's been updated recently -- and the Haunted Mansion, Pirates, etc...

It is Disney afterall --- it can't be that bad, right? I'm missing WDW already but we can't afford a trip down there right now.

To be honest, you sound like someone who already has her mind made up that it's going to be inferior to WDW, and you sound determined not to enjoy it anyway, so why even bother?

There's no peoplemover at Disneyland?

You also haven't exactly done your homework on the place. There hasn't been a PeopleMover at Disneyland for about 14 years. I guess we also need to let you know that Disneyland no longer has Adventure Thru Inner Space, Rainbow Caverns, Pack Mule Rides, America Sings, Rocket to the Moon, or the Flying Saucers. It does, however, have this newfangled attraction called Submarine Voyage which looks promising. :hammer:

Wow I cant believe there are so many jerks on this board, sounds to me like she is ready to have a good time, just trying to figure out what is there or not. This is called planning.

First of all, try not to compair the 2. Although they are of the same spirit, they are 2 completely different experiences and really cannot be compaired other than the similar rides. Go with the intention of having a good time, which it seems like that is what you are going to do.

Now, the one thing you absolutly cannot miss is the Walk in Walts Footsteps tour. Even the most hardcore Disney fan will learn something. You get to go see the apartment he slept in, go on some original attractions that have been in Disneyland since opening day, and at the end, you have lunch! Also drink in New Orleans Square. It has a LOT of eye candy and is just full of energy! Have a Mint Julep, stroll around the Grand Californain and explore the lobby in the main tower of the Disneyland Hotel. There are some historic photos and 2 HUGE collages of Disney collectables that you can stare at for hours. Try not to trip over the Castle :ROFLOL:I love it but it does look like a toy model.

Well, first off, calling another member a "jerk" is not exactly considered a very cool thing to do on this board, nor is it anywhere else the last time I checked. But here on this site, it's against the rules, not to mention rather immature to call other members names, regardless of how much you might disagree with the other person's viewpoint.

That being said, it seems odd the OP would be so quick to criticize a park that she clearly doesn't know much about. Being aware that the PeopleMover no longer exists at DL (and hasn't for over a decade) doesn't exactly require up to the minute information. So she doesn't exactly seem all that qualified to be talking down so much about a park that she clearly knows so little about in the first place.

Now, you may not agree with my opinion, but please refrain from the name calling. Other people have a right to an opinion than differs from yours. Next time, I'll report your post to the moderators.

Have a magical day!

Agent86 - first off, I never admitted I knew a lot about Disneyland. I've never been to Disneyland and apparently - I'm not the only snob on this board! You sound like a DL snob to me! I'm a WDW fan, I've only ever BEEN to WDW, so how would I know they don't have a people mover? I've only just booked my trip to CA so, no, I don't know every detail, every ride about a park I've never visited before. Why would I? And your little emoticon (basically calling me stupid) doesn't come across any better than the "jerk" comment, so maybe I should report you! Get off your high horse.

If you read my OP, it actually said I was looking forward to visiting DL, but I'm used to WDW, so it's going to be strange to go to a different park altogether. Plain and simple - I'm a WDW fan - the whole shebang, not just MK. I like the resorts, the other parks at WDW, the whole "feel" of WDW as a whole. This is why we've never visited DL - because you can't make a whole 10-day trip out of DL.

Disneysue - thanks for your tips, I really appreciate them!!

It always makes me laugh when people try to claim they said something they didn't. No where in your original post did you say you were "looking forward to visiting DL". Why would you claim something like that when anyone can easily go back and read your post to verify it?? :hammer:

What you DID say about DL, however, is the following...

"Whenever my sister mentions Disneyland, we're like "PUHLEASE...it's can't be the same as WDW.""

"I was so disappointed by the area surrounding Disneyland - it seemed so seedy and not "Disney-like" at all."

"Anyways - since we'll be visiting, I guess I'll have to get over it, enjoy Disneyland for what it is (since it IS Walt's first park) and see what it's all about."

"It is Disney afterall --- it can't be that bad, right?"

You don't sound at all like you are "looking forward" to this trip, and you NEVER said anywhere in your post that you were.

It sounded like all you started this thread for was to come on here and insult Disneyland and go on and on about how inferior to WDW you clearly consider it to be (you didn't use the word "inferior", but it was obvious in all of your remarks). Now you're backsliding and claiming that you said you were "looking forward" to it, when you never said that. You're changing your story because I made a point that you don't have an answer for. And the point I made was that you sound like your mind is already made up that you aren't going to have a good time. So why bother? Just so you can come on here and post later about how terrible it was because it "just isn't WDW"?

Nice.

Actually, Agent, I DID say I was "looking forward to the "original rides" -- as stated above. You seem to miss that quote in my OP entirely. YOU seem to be focusing on the negative -- I was simply stating that I'm used to WDW and I feel like I'm "cheating" on WDW. I never said I hated it, I said I was disappointed the first time I visited Downtown Disney because the surrounding area did seem seedy and surrounded by motels, etc. I was very sarcastic but apparently you don't understand sarcasm. LOL.

I have no idea what the INSIDE of DL will be like -- and no, I never said it was inferior. If I really felt that way, I would have just said that. And, I would have continued to say that in the rest of my posts - why flip/flop if I really felt that way? And why say I was LOOKING FORWARD to trying the original rides (in my OP), if I really didn't feel that way??

Most of the other posters seem to get it, but you don't, so that's fine. You seem to enjoy arguing and accusing people of things -- instead of offering up things to try to enjoy DL in a "different way." Oh well.

Justducky,

I'll admit when we went it was hard to get WDW out of our heads (especially for my husband). But that didn't last very long. Now, having gone, I wouldn't say I love one more than the other; I love different things about each. I get what you are saying, that DL is not as isolated as WDW and that does feel weird at first. But once you've spent some time in the park, you'll forget about that.

Have a great time :)

There's no need to try so hard to convince me. You came here for some advice and I (as well as several others) simply noted that you seemed to already have your mind made up that DL would not be as good as WDW and that you would have to somehow force yourself to "get over it" and have a good time. If you are, in fact, looking forward to your upcoming trip, that's great! If you are not looking forward to it, that's fine too. It was merely an observation that I, and others, expressed.

Have a good trip!

I'm new here. Are these the types of people I can expect on this message board???

Some people don't like to overplan their trips. Some people don't really care to know the history of every single attraction ever created. Not everyone has the same planning style.

I mean, I've been to disneyland hundreds of times in the last few years (my first trip wasn't until 2004) and I don't really know that much about attractions that existed before 2004. It doesn't make me like the park any less.

I went to WDW three times growing up. Then I had a huge gap of no disney parks at all (1995-2004.) In 2004 I went to Disneyland for the first time. I did compare it to WDW (what I could remember anyway.) It didn't make me like it any less even though I loved WDW. I fell in love with Disneyland as well. I ended up becoming an AP holder and went hundreds of times between 2004-now. I finally made it back to WDW again in 2008. And this time around I compared things again. I loved WDW! And I still love Disneyland. I think it's possible to love all of the parks if you're willing to look at them for what they are. Sure, we compared things "this is better at Disneyland. This is better at WDW" but we loved it all.

I definitely like the "feel" of WDW better. We stayed at POR last year and it was fantastic. You definitely can't get that at Disneyland. When we go to Disneyland we stay offsite and just visit for a few days. At WDW we stayed onsite for a week (and will next time too.) They are definitely competely different overall experiences. I love them both. I find that when I get home from a WDW trip, I want to visit Disneyland. And when I get home from Disneyland, I want to plan a WDW trip. Haha.

My ideal vacation would have Disneyland park, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and DCA all together. With the resort feel of WDW.

I don't know, the Grand Californian is pretty nice, and you can through a rock from your room and hit Grizzly River Run. You can't get THAT at WDW!

Still, nothing beats staying in a Magic Kingdom View in the Tower at the Contemporary for me.

Perhaps. But I never spend that much on hotels. Haha. Onsite at Disneyland is just way too much for me to want to spend. And moderates (during value season) are the most I'd spring for at WDW. That's not to say I can't afford those places....I just can't rationalize it.

Well I've never stayed there, but have had a look around the place. Its beautiful! I stayed at the Disneyland Hotel in February and it was $140 a night, which isn't too bad. I don't mind paying that. Now, the $310 they are charging a night right now? No freaking way! The Grand Californian is $425 a night right now, for the most basic view! Uh, no thanks! I could stay for 4 nights at the HoJo for that (its $101 a night with the MouseSavers rate).
I only stayed at the Contemporary this January because we'd not been in ages and got buy 4 get 3 nights free deal, otherwise no way. Moderate for me! Well, pretty much just Port Orleans as it is the only Value/Moderate theme I like!
