Disneyland Resort in 2017: Marvel TOT retheme in DCA, Fantasmic! 2.0

I'm not surprised. This is the kind of thing we really have to worry about. They constantly change E tickets around these days and it's always baffling considering they are already as popular as can be, beloved, classic (Tower is a modern classic) and perfect before they shoehorn unrelated movies and themes and radically alter the experience. This also doesn't solve DCA's problem of needing more worthwhile stuff. It's just changing around something that's already there and is actually good.

Yes exactly. Why don't they just build a GOTG ride in the expansion pad or one of those unused buildings in the backlot? Something that would actually do the IP some justice. Redressing a ride that's already really popular isn't doing anything for the park. Lines would be longer for a few months and then people would get over it. I don't see how a drop ride lends itself to the GOTG IP anyway. Let's destroy a modern classic So we can get a tiny ten second GOTG show scene of some clip we could see at the movies and a facade that makes no sense. It's so cheap, lazy, unecessary and stupid.

I think I'm getting all worked up for nothing though. It would be shocking if this really happens. Off the top of my head I kind of feel like it would be unprecedented. That is to completely retheme an E Ticket that is extremely popular with no issues.

Star Wars Land at Disneyland is one of the ultimate offenses to me. I don't care what Disney does to DCA. I don't see Tower as being the crown jewel of the park. Maybe it was back in 2004, when it debuted, but not anymore. I find the ride mediocre.
Sleeping on the issue, i think it is more wrong that it would happen in Orlando more then DCA. The best solution would have to give Marvel its own land and let the Hollywood portion of the park be fixed. The sad thing is it is a quick overlay and it is wrong no matter how you look at it. What they are doing with Star Wars, to some, is a true shame and I understand where that anger comes from. DCA is the park right across from the historic Disneyland, and it should be treated as if it was the second Disneyland yet it is not. Cheap crap like this only make it harder.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but for once I'm actually excited about some DL rumors.

Fantasmic has barely been touched for 20 years and it is showing it's age. Will I be disappointed if it turns into Elsa shooting frozen laser beams at Mickey Mouse's light saber? Yes. But assuming this is only a refresh, and not a rewrite, I think this is a good thing.

I'm also glad DCA ToT will finally get a real theme instead of the copy-n-paste job from Florida that made no sense in Anaheim. I've always thought the DCA ToT was an eyesore. The biggest icon at DLR shouldn't be an burnt out hotel tower, it should be something majestic and beautiful. Yes, I'm disappointed they are going with a GotG theme instead of something new and original, but I've already given up on Disney to come up with anything original. Disneyland is now Movieland. At least they are doing "something" instead of letting this section of the park rot into deserted Hollywoodland.

I can understand the disappointment coming from WDW fans more about a rumor like this.

DCA has never, and will never be treated like Disneyland, unless they remove the park from its current place and attach it to Disneyland itself. It will never receive the same respect Disneyland receives from fans, it just won't, and Disney knows this. They know they can do almost whatever they want to that park, and for the most part, people won't bat an eye. This is why decisions like turning ToT into a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction (I really want to laugh after typing that) are even considered, let alone executed.

Despite the redesign, DCA still remains kinda/sorta centered on California, yes? There's too much Pixar that doesn't really fit and it's certainly not cohesive, but the addition of Marvel and Soarin' Around the World would seem to make things even worse. I'm not saying everything should be directly connected to the Cali theme, but the place is just becoming an even more bizarre hodgepodge. I mean, like, what is it supposed to even be about anymore?

Dear DCA, which is the real you? The loathsome underhanded monster you've become, or the loathsome underhanded monster we came to love?

I find this funny because TOT is the only attraction in Hollywoodland that actually works with the golden age theme. It's almost like they're purposely trying to make that land make absolutely no sense. Also seems kind of pointless considering TOT is already one of DCA's more popular rides. I would say I'm surprised, but there's also the times I thought Star Wars in Disneyland would never happen...

This whole thing reminds me of when Space Mountain was supposed to be rethemed to Stitch.

I don't like DCA's TOT theming. The exterior is underwhelming compared to the same ride at DHS and TDS. Walking by it, it has no ominous presence, no build up. It looks like a low rent TOT dropped in a parking lot. DHS' version is on a hill with way more theming effort. Combine that with a lackluster ride experience at DCA, and I have zero attachment to it.

I hate the idea for WDW, but I can live with it here.

That's about where I am on this one too.

Hopefully this overlay will allow them to paint and upgrade the relatively flat and plain facade of DCA's Tower of Terror. This was the last big yet cheaped out attraction approved by the idiot duo of Paul Pressler and Cynthia Harriss, and 12 years later it doesn't look very good.

Disappointed on the TOT situation from beig both a marvel and Disneyland fan. As for Fantasmic, I couldn't be more than pleased! I absolutely love the show, and hope that they do it some justice. Maybe some newly designed barges, costumes, effects, and props. I'm assuming they'll be drawing a few elements from Tokyo Disney Sea's newer version, such as soundtrack enhancements, costumes and such. Hopefully no Frozen, but that seems unlikely. I'm also hoping that the finale is left untouched as that is the strongest part!

On another thread on this topic in the WDW forums someone claimed that the new TOT will be the gateway to a Marvel themed land behind it.

Miceage had been talking about that expansion area behind Tower of Terror as the site of the Marvel coaster. It would make sense.

I just hope they do something aesthetically with DCA's Tower. It needs help and is the least impressive looking Tower of Terror version. It was obviously cheaped out on by Pressler/Harriss and is too flat from many angles, especially when I see it on my morning strolls through the park. 12 years in the sun haven't helped either, it desperately needs a paint job at the very least.

I hope whatever happens they don't have TOT down next January through February time frame. That's likely when we'll be going back to the DLR, and my kids still haven't been able to ride TOT yet. They want to so bad. They were too little/scared for awhile, and then last time it kept going down whenever we tried to ride. it.

That's exactly the time it's planned to be down right now. :(

It looks exactly like the Paris version....

I assume the rides are identical.

Of course it is :(

That sucks!
