Disneyland officially reopening April 30th

But then again, thinking, they might not go that high as all until indoor queues are a thing again. Having outdoor queues and social distancing lines/attractions are flooding the walkways in most places.

I don't think the indoor queues will really get them a lot more space. Maybe for Indy and MF:SR, but most everything else is already out doors right?

They will still be physically limited in queue space as long as the 6 foot social distancing is enforced, and that won't really be changed until the guests are comfortable enough to accept it (and Disney won't get any PR hits for removing it).

So it could still be months before Disneyland returns to full capacity.

I don't know why the assumption is that Disney will immediately open things back up fully once June 15th hits, considering Florida has not had restrictions for months yet Disney has kept WDW under attendance restrictions this entire time. Feels pretty safe that they'll continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

iirc Orange County (FL) still has restrictions, the state (FL) basically said "no you don't" but the county is saying "yes we do."

The state's "no you don't" came out after the county rules, purposely meant to kneecap them. It will soon be a legislated law, too, and not just an EO.

Yup, and Disney basically responded with an alert in MDE with a "we don't care what FL says, we are following our own standards."

It basically seems to be a game of who do they anger more, state or local.

For some people maybe the convenience is worthwhile, but I can spend an entire day at Disneyland, so why pay for the option to go to DCA when I can already fill every second with stuff at Disneyland? Just for different stuff? Then I'm missing out on stuff at Disneyland. You're paying more but getting the same amount of time at the parks.

You're also getting nearly 2x the options being put in front of you.

Sure if you've got everything you want at DL and care nothing for DCA - yes, its a waste. But if you have things you'd like to do in DCA - it's obvious you need access to DCA.

Never been to DL before... sure.. no park hopper. Everyone one else... options are good. And DCA has great stuff worth visiting (when the parks are running fully).

I've done WoC, fireworks, and F! all in one night... That was worth it.

From LA Times:

“According to data released Tuesday, Orange County’s rate of new coronavirus cases — adjusted based on the number of tests performed — dropped to 1.8 per day per 100,000, meaning it could move into the yellow tier, the most lenient category, as soon as next week, if trends hold”

It sounds like masks will stay in theme parks but finally an acknowledgment of people from around the country and internationally coming to places like theme parks 6/15:

California will effectively end its mask mandate next month when it fully reopens its economy after more than a year of Covid-19 restrictions, Gov. Gavin Newsom said.

In an on-camera interview with KTTV Los Angeles reporter Elex Michaelson posted on Twitter, the governor was asked, “Are we looking at masks after June 15?”

“No. Only in those settings that are indoor – only in those massively large settings where people around the world, not just around the country, are convening, and when people are mixing in real dense spaces,” Newsom replied. “Otherwise, we’ll make guidance recommendations, but no mandates and no restrictions on businesses large and small.”
California currently requires the use of masks in indoor settings outside of one’s home, including on public transportation, regardless of vaccination status. However, fully vaccinated people are not required to wear masks outdoors, except when attending crowded events.

Last month, state health officials announced the June 15 target date to fully reopen the state amid falling Covid-19 infection rates and low hospitalizations, shelving its color-coded tier system that dictates reopening by county based on infection rates.

California's mask mandate, however, would remain in place at least "in the short run," Newsom said at the time.

Spokespersons for the governor’s office and California Department of Public Health did not respond to CNN requests for comment Wednesday.

When do you think Disney will end their mask mandate? I’m willing to postpone my trip. I’d hate to miss the end of the mask requirement by a few weeks

It sounds like CA will keep them for theme parks from my reading of his statement, no? Basically, “we will allow people from out of state but keep masks.” Disney would gladly take that offer. WDW will remove the outdoor mask mandate soon.

I think Disneyland will keep the mask mandate initially, but if they open up their capacity and it proves difficult to fill the parks as much as they want, that's probably a lever they will pull to try to bring more people in. It will be interesting to see what they do first... Introduce a new AP program or get rid of masks.

It's even deeper than that. They need to make sure that they are not angering their current guests, and encouraging future visitors to book. If the majority of their guests are telling them they want the masks to stay, they will keep the mandate past whatever the state of Florida does.

Which is why I see the mask mandate staying at Disneyland for the foreseeable future. Even if there is just a "recommendation" from public health officials, the mask mandate at Disneyland will stay until the public at large, is comfortable with the risk.

It comes down to wearing a mask with smaller crowds or waiting until the mandate is lifted and have more crowds with no mask. I don't foresee Disney lifting their mandate any time soon, so you might as well just go now and enjoy the lower crowds.

I almost spit out my coffee on this one. Perhaps here in left-leaning California people WANT to wear masks, but not in Florida. Didn't you see the spring break videos? People went to Florida to not have to wear a mask and still do. The least of WDW's worries is Floridians (or even out-of-state people unless they are coming from left-leaning states) complaining about NOT having to wear a mask.

I was talking to my friend in Florida a couple of days ago and I was like "We are finally having our lock-downs and tier levels released on June 15th". She was like, "the what?". So I explained the whole tier system and she said, "That's crazy. Florida is completely open lol."

So how much of WDW's attendance comes from Florida versus those left leaning states?

"Florida is completely open" and "Walt Disney World is at 35% capacity" seem to be at odds with each other.

Maybe you can explain then why Disney is keeping their mask mandates when being told to drop them by the governor? Why are they keeping at reduced capacity? Why risk the fight?

Doesn't appear that there will be any sort of "mandate" for any sectors. Merely guideline recommendations for all businesses from the sounds of it. Will probably allow the theme parks to keep things in place if they wish which they'll be more than happy to do. The hassle of having masks off outside but putting them on when going indoors will be a headache for guests and workers alike. Disney will likely consult with the CDC and other experts when Sacramento releases the "guidance recommendation" for masks before making any changes.
