How difficult is it to get a reservation for a regular single-day ticket?

It hasn't been an issue for the past year or two. So you can pretty much drop in on most days, get a single-day ticket and reservation same day. The only time it really becomes an issue has been the Christmas season, but that should be expected.

Thanks for confirming. In that case, I really suspect this is the better move for most people, even super fans, unless they truly plan to be at the park constantly.

That said, I see some Saturdays are now $206, which is bananas. Maybe it’s worth the PTO to visit on a $104 Monday, haha.

They are activated the day of first use or if Inspire the first time you use the parking benefit.

Their expiration starts the first day you use them after purchase, but must use them within a year of purchase (I believe).

I'm honestly more shocked they did not open up Magic Key sales before starting previews for Tiana. Seems like an easy way to goose numbers.

Yep. Pass is activated after either

A.) Entering one of the two parks
B.) Entering a Disney owned lot and using the parking benefit (Inspire Key only as discount on Parking will not activate the pass)

And pass expires if unused a year after its purchased

From the terms and conditions about unused keys

A Pass will expire if it is not activated within one (1) year from the date of purchase, and upon expiration, such expired Pass may no longer be activated or have park reservations scheduled for it, and any existing park reservations for such Pass will be cancelled.

Also from Terms and Conditions regarding pass activation:

For a new Pass purchase (not a renewal), a Pass is valid for applicable privileges for one (1) year from the date of use of the Pass for first entry into a Disneyland® Resort theme park or use of the parking benefit on the pass for a fully-paid first entry into a pay-on-entry lot at the Disneyland® Resort. Use of a Pass for a discount on parking will not activate the Pass.

To add if not used within that first year from purchase date it becomes a credit for what was paid towards a new pass at the current pricing. You would have to pay the difference.

There’s no rhyme or reason….that we have insight into anyway. Last time they were on sale for months. Time before that was one day for all except the imagine.

All depends on how bad attendance projections are. It's a tool to fill in lower than expected attendance just like the "child ticket deal" and "so cal ticket deal".

Right but on our end we have no real way of knowing if they are going to be on sale for days, weeks or months.

Oh, everything is terrible at Disneyland. No one should ever go there. The service is terrible. They nickel & dime everything.

I like going to theme parks, I treat myself to one “premium” season pass a year (DL, WDW, Universal Orlando.) The year I have the pass I go 5 times and go to the park 5-6 days. Even at its high cost the Magic Key works out to $53 a day for a park hopper.

Economically it still makes sense to buy the Key, and I argue is still a pretty good deal, at least for me. When it stops making economic sense I’ll stop buying (and switch it up and rotate which parks I go to every trip for the variety) but until then I’ll keep buying, I still come out ahead if I bought different media. The fringe benefits (discount of food, hotels, etc) are just icing on the cake and don’t factor into the decision.

That said, I’m not average and with Keys now taking more then 2 2 week trips I would not advise anyone not local from buying one unless they plan on 3 trips in the year.

So you go to the park for 30 days a year? That isn't unheard of. Back in 2015 I went to Disneyland 39 times. I think my sister still goes every Sunday by herself. It's funny because we go so many times a year, we complain about what we see on a daily basis. I guess we hope things will get better but after a while, it just isn't fun anymore.

One way to make things better is stop giving them money. They will continue to raise the price until they don't sell enough of them.
