My first guess is it had something to do with renewal cycles. So why did they allow so few MK in January if 2 months later they still have it open after nearly a week?

Disneyland Resort has announced new sales of all Magic Key passes are currently paused.
Here's the announcement:
Please note that we have paused new sales of Magic Key passes. At this time, current Magic Key holders may have the opportunity during their renewal window (currently up to 30 days prior to the pass expiration date) to renew into a pass made available within the program. The quantity of passes and pass types available for renewal may be limited. Passes or a pass type may be unavailable from time to time or at any given time or available only for renewal.
How silly. Just make windows where you will and won’t sell them. This just annoys people and makes the company look like they don’t know what they are doing.Disneyland Resort has announced new sales of all Magic Key passes are currently paused.
@Sirwalterraleigh - WOW - unprecedented demand!!!!Disneyland Resort has announced new sales of all Magic Key passes are currently paused.

Its either that or that want reduce the "undesirable mix" of guests at DLR
I do not understand why they would stop taking folks money.Interesting
Disneyland is a completely different animal
Though I doubt it’s a coincidence that they are doing this for the summer season?
I think you’re in the ballparkI do not understand why they would stop taking folks money.
I just don't understand it, unless they think APs don't spend enough money and therefore don't want those types in the park taking up space and resources.
Again, it takes me back that Disney does not care about attendance, they care about per capita spending in the parks.

Ima thinkinYeah probably want to sell as many of those Summer So Cal 3 day tickets as possible. Then get those same people to buy an annual pass when they go back on sale.
2 months in advance to find a day that has reservations left?Magic Keys have been ridiculously bad this fall for Enchant and Believe key holders. If you want to go any day that's Friday-Sunday you have to have reserved it 2 months in advance.
Earlier this year I could use different websites to set up reservation alerts and could typically find reservations for days I wanted with thus method. However it seems now when these days are sold out it is for good.
There were multiple times this last month I happened to be near the Anaheim area and could not use my Disneyland Pass because I didn't predict I'd be there two months in advance.
Because of how reservations no longer free up as easily as they used to, I can't help but feel what is the point of paying for a pass that involves so much pre planning to use?
For Friday to Sunday. For example all Fridays to Sundays in October and November are full for Enchant and Believe Keys.2 months in advance to find a day that has reservations left?

I didn't realize there is a Sunday in November for enchant keys. Somehow thought once it hit October it was weekdays only.Yeah the value isn’t great for people that want to be spontaneous right now. Blackouts have gotten really bad during the holidays. We had Believe Keys for a few years and this is our first year with Enchant and as you know we only have one Sunday available (no Saturdays) from October through December.
That's a good plan to just plan to get hard to find reservations. I have one Friday in each of the months reserved. Just wish there was at least some way to spontaneously visit. So what happens is the Fridays start to get booked up quick. What we did was book any available Sundays from late September/ November and then use our other reservations and targeted a couple Fridays in November and December. We’re just not going in October as we’ve already been during Halloween twice and if we really going to take days off work it’s going to be for Christmas.
Very good information. I figured Sundays are lighter than Fridays due to them costing more but sounds like this is not the case. I'm sure if you plan to head there at the right times you can avoid traffic but heading back Friday night traffic I feel is relentless from 3PM all the way until 10-11PM due to all the freeway construction, people going out, and commuters.Friday mornings through the early afternoon are actually quite nice as many people who book Friday reservations do so with the intention of going after school/work or in the evenings. Friday evenings are busy but if you’ve been there all day it doesn’t really matter and you have the added perk of the next day being Saturday instead of Monday. We kind of enjoy Fridays more than Sundays for this reason. Everything except the drive there as it’s really easy to get to the park on Sunday mornings.
These are good tips! The last few dates I tried to get alerts for were sunday and friday reservations and unfortunately no luck but hopefully that isnt the case every time.We live 1 hour 15 min + from the park and usually have a pretty full schedule booked in advance with obligations/ family gatherings so we don’t really have the option of being spontaneous. But you can still be spontaneous, but you have to be spontaneous early in the morning hahah. I’ve noticed a booked up day will free up the night before (as people cancel so they don’t get dinged) and often times even for the first few hours the morning of. Not sure if that’s still the case with fewer and fewer weekend days available during the holidays for pass holders each passing year.
I mean, this is exactly what they’ve said at face value. And it’s no longer unique to Disneyland, as Tokyo as just stopped selling annual passes at all!I do not understand why they would stop taking folks money.
