Interesting about the tracking. In Disneyland the app is doing tracking of all these things and more so I don't see it actually being a difference.
It is a difference of there being an active screen where you have to give permission to the Disneyland app. Additionally, on Android, the Disneyland app can only track while you are actively using the app, unless you explicitly give it permission to always track your location. Not sure on iPhones. Magicbands don't have a screen, so they can't ask if they can track you.

True. And since dland is mostly built of locals the bands would be useless most of the time. Cheaper to just have guests use their own phones.
Actually, Disney would make a killing selling Magicbands to locals that would collect all of the new styles. Don't think for a second there wouldn't be profit in it, there are just too many other issues.

When you link a magic band to your account for the first time surely you would get terms and conditions. I'd be amazed if this id not the case.

I doubt Disney is tracking everyones data without some type of waiver you sign.

Nobody has said that AP holders don't spend money, though some don't spend any on their visits.

When the park was open, and before Star Wars Land opened, there was always a gaggle of OC Housewives who would set up camp in the lower level of the Hungry Bear Restaurant by the bathrooms. They were Botoxed to hell, and looked like Central Casting had sent us a few SoCal Upper-Middle Class Housewives, and they sat there feeding their children an endless supply of organic carrot sticks and organic rasisins in little plastic baggies they'd smuggled into the park in their fashionably oversized handbags.

The ladies would sit there talking to each other, vaguely ignoring their darling little ones as they terrorized the ducks and threw their organic carrot sticks at them, taking up space and not spending a dime while Canadian tourists tried to find a table to sit at for their $78 lunch from the Hungry Bear.

This could only happen at Disneyland in the 2010's. And it's not at all surprising that those same women are now on Facebook claiming they spent plenty of money, PLENTY OF MONEY, on every visit they made with their Monthly Payment Plan AP.

Point is that no matter the opinion on the smart phone experience MagicBands aren't coming to any other Disney Park, and are limited to WDW only.

I can agree with that. I would even say that the MagicBand's days are numbered for WDW. It was such a bold idea in 2011. But by 2021 it's clunky and inefficient and unnecessary.

Does anyone have a timeline of when security started getting serious at DLR? 15 years ago going to the parks was pretty easy to be this casual, but a year ago it was taking over an hour to get from the freeway off ramp to through the gates (rise of the resistance probably responsible for a lot of that) and I don't understand how so many casual guests could be doing it so often.

Bag check has been there for a very long time. They added metal detectors in 2016 for random guests and in 2017 everyone had to go through them.

Furthermore they understaff security, even on busy days. They also halved the parking both staff so one employee does 2 lanes now instead of one employee per lane.

This is the same reason quick service can take an hour to order when its busy, understaffing the park.

At one point the park had the resources to manage crowds, but management over the years has decided that since most days aren't busy they'd rather cut their staff and save money.

Meanwhile Galaxys Edge furthered some of these cuts and also forced the park to have ticket deals last minute but the Disney CEO touts about what a huge success it was in their earnings call.

I wish you could have seen me a few nights ago trying to figure out what WandaVision was. I love the concept of a family that changes through the decades like a Sitcom changes. But then I tried to figure out why they were changing, and how, and it got very confusing for me as I tried to read Wikipedia and some industry media stories on it. 🤣

I have no idea about Marvel stuff. I have no idea what an "MCU" is, or how it impacts me. I have no idea what an Avenger is, and if they are good guys or bad guys.

And don't even get me started on a nice girl being married to a red robot! Sinful.

What I was relegated to was watching about 5 minutes worth of YouTube videos of the various opening theme songs to each episode. I think my favorite was the 1980's version. The 1970's version was the most disappointing to me, because that's an era I remember most fondly, and there are so many fun ways they could have gone besides just a sloppy Brady Bunch thing. Talk about phoning it in for the 1970's! Ugh.

The 1960's version was my second favorite. But this one was the most enjoyable for me, even though I still have no idea what an MCU is...

Okay boomer ;)
