Move to more positions to part time to pay less in benefits.
Exactly. I also expect what's left of any walk-up ordering at food places to go away to reduce staff. They will push harder on mobile checkout to reduce cashiers. Most likely move forward at a quicker pace to get the automatic entry gates installed so that they can reduce staff by 50% having on person man two gates instead of one.

Also look for even more reduced entertainment throughout the parks, as well as higher ticket, food, and hotel prices.

They basically just negotiated an inferior experience for both CMs and guests.

Food prices already went up Resort-wide last week. Most items now .30-$1 more each.

Have the details of the new contract been shared?

MiceChat shared these details:

Terms of the New Employee Contract

The barganing committee recommends Cast Members accept the new contract as it brings historic wage increases and improvements to workplace conditions. Here are the highlights of the new agreement:
  • 3 Year Contract – DEFEATED 5 year contract proposed by Disney
  • Biggest wage increases ever – $6.10 over 3 years for most Cast
  • Members, and Minimum Base wage rate of $24 in 2024 (or more for some classifications)
  • Historic Longevity increases for Senior Members
  • Attendance Policy and Sick leave: improvements that give Cast more opportunity to attend to personal issues without fearing discipline
  • Disney had sought to end premiums for certain kinds of work (3rd Shift, Working Lead, Trainer, etc.), but the unions rejected that attempt. However, the rate for the premiums was not changed, so there’s not as much incentive to work these positions (or shifts).

Some people feel a weird need to whine about the new grooming standards incessantly. Still. Even when they don't even visit the parks anymore because, among other reasons, they're now two states over.

I'm 90 minutes away right now from the Harbor Blvd. offramp. I spend every summer in La Jolla.

I've got family arriving next week. None of them want to go to Disneyland with me, because they think it's a pain in the butt now and the place has kind of gone downhill. And I'm afraid I see their point.

This isn't immersive. It's not magical. It's not special. It's mundane and mediocre. And he's making $24 per hour now. 🤣

I dunno, is there REALLY that much of a difference between that guy with or without those Tattoos, or is the difference large enough to merit four years of whining about it? I personally think not.

Is the exact same CM without the tattoos really more *Immersive or *Magical? Only if you automatically assume that tattoos obviously and immediately signalize degeneracy, which thankfully we are largely beyond as a society.

If you think $24/hr is bad/unjustified, imagine how much more Disney would be paying its CMs if it had insisted on continuing the no tattoo policies.

If you're in an emergency situation, don't call 911, hon. The cops, EMs, and firefighters are all strip-mall-tatted, too.

You wouldn't want the riff raff to be touching you and your stuff just for the sake of staying alive.

I have family members with tattoos. I love them.

But there used to be a sense of showmanship and professionalism from CM's. Just like a flight attendant can not display her strip mall tats when she serves you luncheon, Disneyland CM's used to not be allowed to display their strip mall tats while they helped you into your Storybook Land boat.

It's not just the tats. It's the stringy hair, the scruffy beard, the well worn trousers and shirt that haven't seen an iron in months.

CM uniforms used to be dry cleaned and pressed and kept mended by Disney who would check out a new uniform each day to arriving CM's. Now those uniforms are sent home to be thrown in a washing machine with jeans and dish towels at irregular intervals. The design and production of Disneyland uniforms has now suffered, because they know they'll be laundered at unknown temps and cycles at unknown frequencies. Disneyland no longer controls its uniforms and their care, and it shows.

Surely you can understand how that has obviously changed, and how it is a downgrade in showmanship?

I think the CM looks just great! Nothing seemed out of the norm to me on my visit, but I do think this is simply a generational thing. Preferences have changed, and us younger folk really truly don't mind or think about it at all.

Every single CM we encountered was happy, kind, and offered incredible service to us.

I am sure they'd also prefer not having to bring costumes home with them... but alas, I am not sure if the size of the workforce would allow for that sort of thing anymore.

It's entirely on Disney that the costume maintenance is now on the CMs. They made that decision eons ago. I don't see the point in dwelling on it, it was so long ago.

What is important is the service the CM gives, not whether or not they have visible tattoos or how freshly pressed their uniforms are.

At any rate, it is on Disney, and not on cast, for these changes. I just don't feel it's productive to continue to dwell on these changes that honestly don't even matter that much.

They DESERVE their wage increase, more rights of time off.

It SHOULD be Disney responsibility to clean and keep their uniforms tidy. Not the cast members.
