I live in Oregon and go once a year or less. I went last in Oct of 2014. Won't get back till next year. I'm hoping January or February. My husband isn't a big theme park fan. He likes it okay, but it's definitely not his favorite. I usually plan other vacations between our Disney trips, so we can experience other things too. Last year we went to San Francisco. This year, I think we'll go to Alaska again on a cruise. Cruising is much more my husband's style lol After next years DLR trip, I have my sights set on WDW. And its likely we'll wait till Star Wars is open before going back.

Haha cruising is relaxing because it kind of forces you to relax but I have found I prefer flying to locations and staying at a hotel(s) and exploring that country instead of just getting a few hours in multiple destinations. Of course this could just be my opinion because I have been on 7 cruises and all 7 were Carnival. For 6 of the 7 I was a child or young adult so I'm not sure I noticed how awful the food was or how unappealing the ships were. I was more interested in the girls on the ship. The last one I went on in 2014 was terrible. I hear Disney Cruises are among of the best. Any recommendations?

Never been to WDW. Eventhough everything Ive read in these chat rooms and elsewhere say DLR is far superior I would still love to see it at least once. At this point I'm waiting for Pandora to open. I feel like a WDW vacation would have to be like 2 weeks. I would need at least 4-5 days for Disney and 2 days for Universal. There's just something about going to a theme park 7 days straight that doesn't seem like a vacation to me. Haha

I lived in Orlando for a while and we visited the parks a few times a month but would visit resorts and what is now Disney Springs weekly. I grew up in Tampa going monthly. I can see how for some visiting that often would lose its appeal but not me. I've never been to DLR. Ive never actually stayed on property or done the whole Disney vacation package experience. I think this year we may get to do it. I cant decide which resort though, I grew up going to WDW and my wife DLR. Either way I cant wait to go.

Wait, not everyone on these boards visits DLR often? I think I kind of assumed that most of us on here have APs. I visit about 1.5 times a month myself. I live about an hour away from the park but if I lived closer I would go way more often. Being able to get there early before the parks get crowded would be nice too. But I like my sleep.

On a positive note I think my distance from the park and the fact that I can't just go on a whim makes me appreciate it more.

EDIT: Not so much the distance because an hour drive isn't too bad but it's the traffic that keeps me away.

On another note, considering how crowded the parks are I'm seriously starting to wonder if the premium passes are worth the money. I feel like I would be better off with the So Cal Select, taking off work one Wedneday a month, save a lot of money and have a much better experience.
No, I'd say that while many people here visit the park often, but most are people who enjoy the idea of going to Disneyland or have been a few times. For me, I live on the east coast and have only visited Disneyland once, but still actively read (and sometimes post), as I love the park.

I love WDW, and I have fond memories going back to my first visit back in 1975 and being at EPCOT Center on opening day in 1982. I haven't been in years though, and I'd probably visit more frequently if it weren't for DLR being so close. The expansion in 2001 was a game changer for me, and since it opened I haven't seen a compelling reason to fly to Orlando when there's a Disney resort so close and there are so many other unique vacation places I'd rather experience.

At this point I'm waiting for Pandora to open.

+1. I've seen some very impressive photos online. Two words: Floating Mountains. :):)

A little less than 8 hours before this big TV special airs!

I've decided to make this an event viewing at my house. I'm going to order pizza, have some good wine, and watch it on the big 60 inch screen in the TV room. I have no idea who most of these pretty and shiny young people are that will be performing/hosting/singing, but I trust at least some of them are at least B Listers and that makes it rather impressive that Disney pulled out this type of firepower for this show. It looks slick and sparkly and very well produced.

Harrison Ford and Elton John are the only faces and names I recognize. I assume the others have done something nice at some point. Right?

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the performances and whatever they announce for Star Wars Land. I'll be watching for the history. I'm thinking of taping the special on a good 'ol VHS.

I believe there are only a small handful of us who are local and go quite often. Seems like it's the exact opposite with those of us on MiceChat.

I agree. We've come a long way since the corny days of Sandy Duncan bopping around the park in front of the cameras.

It's notable that this is being aired during a sweeps month. ABC must be expecting high viewership for the program. The non-Disney fan viewers east of the Rockies are probably scratching their heads wondering why the ads keep referring to Disneyland as The Happiest Place on Earth. lol.

I definitely recommend not going on Carnival ;) We went on Celebrity Cruise before and it was very, very nice. Never been on a Disney cruise, although I would LOVE to.
I would prefer to wait until Pandora opens too before going to WDW. Apparently Jim Hill is claiming that the floating mountains are going to actually MOVE. Although I don't have any love for Avatar land, I can't wait to see what this land is going to look like when completed.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how strongly this is branded as a "Disneyland" special, instead of blandly corporate "Disney Parks". Perhaps they realized they have brands that really mean something to people, Disneyland and WDW, and "Disney Parks" is hollow and weird?

Or maybe it's just a fluke and we'll get "Jay Rasulo's MAGICAL Disney Parks" shopping bags and branding back when the 60th ends on Labor Day?

I kinda miss the Sandy Duncan schmaltz. I just Googled her and she's still alive! I didn't know that.

Mary Poppins was on ABC.com in full not long after it aired in December so I have a feeling it'll be the same deal this time around.
