Ok, we're here at POR watching a rather good Thunderstorm. It's raining pretty heavy and has been doing so since about 2pm (It's now about 7pm) Tomorrow is supposed to be worse until early evening. We were going to go to MGM but if its raining I hear they won't do either of the stunt shows. We already did some of the other attractions at MGM Sunday night. What do the vets here recommend for a very rainy day at WDW.

best,

Kevin and Mona :xmas:

When it rains when we're there, we usually put on ponchos and head to MK. Many of the rides there are indoors, and it might be less crowded with rainy weather. I remember one time when it was raining, we walked onto all the rides in Fantasyland, and most of the other indoor rides such as Pirates. It can be a fun day even in the rain. If you didn't bring a poncho, I know you can purchase one in the parks...I'm not sure if you can get them at the resort, but you probably can. I've only bought from the park before though. Hope you have a good rest of the trip!

Bear in mind, much of MK floods in the rain. Most especially Fantasyland. So plan your routes accordingly. Soggy shoes are miserable.

The ponchos are very good, they are a little pricie but they are worth it. When we went in June 2002 we had a lot of sun showers. It's still can be a good day if you keep your hopes up. I agree good day for MK.

Head to the parks! Rainy days mean rather short lines.

Just roll up your pants, toss on a poncho, toss some dry clothes and shoes in a bag (then toss that in a locker) and head to the parks :)

I always like dancing in the rain and just having fun splashing about the parks when it's raining. Just beware - the air conditioning in the buildings will freeze you, especially if you're soaked through.

But don't pass up a day because of a few (million) rain drops!

Ya know, I never could figure that out.

It seems since the Magic Kingdom is basically on the second floor that it would be fairly easy to get the place drained quickly !:veryconfu

I like to go to Epcot on rainy days. The pavilions can take an hour or more each and we feel like we can take our time before moving on to the next one. The ride at UoE takes about 45 minutes from pre-show to exit, so grab (or buy) a poncho and make the most of a soggy day at Disney.

I LOVE disney in the rain. Something about drudging through the puddles on Main St. just makes me feel like a 9 yr old again!

I don't think anything is fun in the rain especially driving. So make sure you let Disney transport you where ever you go. I would probably hit MK because you can most of the time jump from one attraction to the next with little rain on you where Epcot you will find yourself walking (or running) through the rain at all times. Look for other things to do as well. Disney has so much to do you could spend days if not weeks at the resort and not go to one single park.
Good Luck and have fun!!

every year i go it rains like crazy almost every day. lol, cuz i go during the beginning of hurricane season. i suggest running in it, getting wet, and creating a new disney memory. i ran in crazy rain at downtown disney this last year, and when i dryed off under disney quest it looked like i just jumped in a pool. :p ahhh...the memories. (ponhos arent bad either)

Bottom Line: Go to Epcot or Magic Kingdom, bring ponchos-umbrellas suck, and have a blast

(Edited because I wasn't finished and pushed the return key accidentally.)
This may sound weird, but seeing as I go in the summer, and am always looking for ways to beat the sun, I find that going to Animal Kingdom in the rain is often nice. For one thing, like the others said, the lines are much shorter. Also, with the rain cooling things off, the animals are awake and moving in the Safaris, as well as the two walk through attractions. And if the weather gets too bad, there's always the option to see dinosaur, or Tough To Be A Bug.
My friends and I will also hang out at the Pizzafari there and watch the rain if it becomes too crazy.

If the weather is nice, definitely wear sandals before heading out in the rain....just make sure they have good traction (or else you'll end up like me in World Showcase one year.)

What ever you do, make the most of your time. If you do not want to head to a park, you can always hop on a bus to the Disney Village Marketplace. Most of the shops are either connected or just a small hop, skip or jump away from one another.
But I have to say, my family spent many a day in the parks when it was raining. Like many others, grab a poncho and have a great time!

I agree with the others...

ponchos...park...

if it was Wednesday...Bob the piano dude would be playing in the lounge...you could go, have a few drinks and get caught up in the entertainment...

you could always go to the food court and have a bite to eat...

though I love this after an evening in the park...late night pizza is the best!

just being in Disney rain or shine does it for me

DH and I were at WDW when it rained. It rained only one day during our trip. It rained at Epcot. My DH's feet were soaked and thankfully, I brought an extra pair of socks with me.

To the parks! As many have said there are so many things to do at WDW in the rain. The parks are usually less crowded so lines and wait times are shorter. Sure, the stunt shows may be cancelled but go out and experience the rest of the World! I especially like the Magic Kingdom during the rain and have enjoyed many a good thunderstorm under the cover of Cinderellas Castle. Enjoy! It's only a little rain (and the poncho's are sooooo stylish!)

Call me the crazy one but I would head over to AK with the rain! The times I have been over there, I've had a blast! The animals are always active in the rain and not passed out from the heat! Safari is great and if you're already soaked, you can hit the river raft ride!

If AK isn't your gig, head to MK.

As others have stated, Poncho's and an extra pair of dry socks are a good idea!

Try a water park too! As long as it's not lightning, you're good to go! I mean, you're going to get wet somehow! Might as well do it on a water slide!

Make the most of it - Do all the "get wet" rides - Kali Rapids, Splash Mountain and just have fun!

When we were in DL/DCA in January, our last full day in California it rained all day! My ex hid in the ice cream shop pretty much the whole day, but my son and I went on Grizzly River Run five times in a row. Later we rode California Screamin' until our faces were numb [50-MPH rain pelting you in the kisser while looping upside down will do that :dazzle:], I think we did nine or ten back-to-back runs. The two of us had the time of our lives! The CMs said they'd shut down the outdoor rides if it even hinted of lightening, but there wasn't any at all. Our clothes were barely dry by the time we had to pack the next morning , but we have Father/Son memories that will last :).

After that, my son and I agreed that we'd vacation "just the two of us" from then on. :sohappy:

Maybe that makes it even harder to manage though. Because they can't let the water run straight down into the Utilidors, right? So they have to try to slope the walks to let the rain collect in runoff areas. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to happen. There's too many "low" spots in Fantasyland that the water just backs up and pools at.

I don't know. They definitely need to address the issue though. It gets really bad pretty quickly.

nothing beat the rain, it was the best. one day i was just having a great day and i saw the black clouds rolling in, many of you know what i mean. well it starts to pour and lighting is too close to dumbo, where i was working, and dumbo got shut down. this made me have an even greater day since i got to stand under our little area even though it didnt keep the water out thank god for the rain suit that were provided. well a position shift came through and i was to go back to the computer. on my way back it was pouring down and everyone was bundled up under what ever they could find for shelter. as the thunder and lightning was rolling through i just started to sing "singin in the rain" (hey i felt safe from the lightning since there are lightning rod at almost every 5 feet along fantasyland) the guests thought i was crazy but hey they were bundle up they werent having a good time so i had to entertain.

I was at the MK today in the pouring rain, and had very little waits for the rides (some were walk-on). By the time Wishes started, the park was almost dead, you could have watched it anywhere on Main Street, the hub, or by the train station and not had a problem finding a spot. I recommend doing the same tomorrow....I know I'll be at the MK!
