Two of the worst fits of all time, they didn't belong in TL.
Not really. A look a point in the *future* from the past.

But didn't the two go hand in hand? Attendance was off due to to no refurb....Pay for the refurb fix the attendance issue.
I thought attendance was always steady, seeing it's a Omni...:wave:Good point
If 70%-80% of the cabs are going out filled then yes but when you consistently have 10 empty cars between full ones that is a bad thing. The last few times I rode WOM and Horizons I felt like I was the only one in the building.I thought attendance was always steady, seeing it's a Omni...:wave:

Actually, they really, really did fit in the old TL. Flight was still somethign very futuristic, and very "in" back then. It was the Golden Age of the Airline. Now? Nope. This is the one of the few rides were I think character insertion actualy hepled it
Yea it sucks compared to what we could have had.

Well thats just part of it, Horizons had also lost its sponsor so Disney had to pay to maintain it by them selves. Also there were plans to keep it and still build MS and a space pavilion. Eisner was in the penny pinching part of his carreer and denied it.

True. Both were looking SO dated when they closed. Very little in the way of refurb would have helped.
Much to the chagrin of some, Horizons went out just in time for people to remember it as a classic. A refurb or another 2-3 years open and it would be just another lame attraction that Disney let rot.
But if he had done so would it have still existed? Would it still be there today? Probably not... I mean even when someone updates something people still complain that they want something new and fresh, and actually making a ride more modern does not, IMHO, qualify as something new and fresh.Actually, had Eisner wanted to update the attraction to be more modern, he could have.

My first trip to Epcot was 83-84 ish. Went back about every 18 months until around 2000 when I started going to WDW multiple times per year.Actually, they really, really did fit in the old TL. Go to Mesa Verde Times and watch them trying to find a "gap", like you said. It was pretty hard.
When did you visit? I remember Horizons always having a small one, seeing I loved the queue.

Once word gets out that an attraction is going away the capacity tends to spike. Tarzan Rocks and the AC are prime examples. In the early 90's I distinctly remember being the only guest I saw in WOM.Ah, cool.
My last ride on Horizons- 1997? Maybe 98-99? (I don't know if it was open, then...) had a pretty decent wait.
And then a pretty decent crowd standing along the refurb wall in July of 2000.
First thing I see was that so-called Country Bear refurb in which it had the speakers repaired.
If I read correctly, they still have that worn, broken sound to it...
AE to Stitch's Great Mis/Escape = FAIL
SGE is an epic refurb FAIL. Right across the sidewalk, MLF is a huge disappointment IMO as a replacement (not exactly refurb) for Timekeeper. Sure Timekeeper had to go, but why couldn't we get a dark ride in there? MLF just makes me sad.
OOdd....I remember the opposite.:shrug:Once word gets out that an attraction is going away the capacity tends to spike. Tarzan Rocks and the AC are prime examples. In the early 90's I distinctly remember being the only guest I saw in WOM.
You were also at best 6 or 7 at the time (providing you age in the other thread is correct of course). Memories from early childhood tend to be quite distorted from reality.OOdd....I remember the opposite.
The Omnis certainly were packing them in when I was lucky enough to visit in `87, `90 and `93. I recall (and have on video) late afternoon Imagination (the ride) had a line using all the exterior switchbacks that go out to the toilets at the rear of the pavilion. I also remember being in a scrum in line in the outside switchbacks for Motion in 1993, zig zagging around the rotunda and elevated exterior track. Never saw the switchbacks in use for Horizons outside, but we always queued through Futureport. Just an observation. From a very small timeframe.
