But it’s not just rents, having to own a car can eat up a significant portion of a worker’s earnings.
That’s why I don’t own a car, but that reality isn’t possible or going to change with this single development, or in the next 5 years for Orlando. It’s something we should be working towards, but I’ll also support any progress towards the present housing issue. Just because it isn’t perfect doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still do it.

A waiter who works approx 32 hours a week, makes six figures still manages to live in affordable housing with his family near my town since the guy doesn't declare all of his actual income. Some will take advantage of the system.
Someday he may want to buy a house commensurate with his actual income. Good luck getting credit. Gaming the system this way can have some very undesirable side effects.

My husband worked in insurance claims and loved it when these folks filed claims for lost wages and tried to argue they made much more than they reported to the IRS.

Cannot answer if he wants to own a home. Not exactly ethical on how he lives but to each his own.

They should be doing this, but urban sprawl is bad. By building Flamingo Crossings and this proposed development where they have, they’re going to continue the destruction of open space without tackling the central issue that’s been driving the affordability crisis, the preponderance of car reliant single family subdivisions.

Wake me up when they buy up and tear down a subdivision closer to civilization to build a project like this.
Both projects perpetuate the ridiculous take that pedestrian and, to a lesser extent transit, oriented design are luxury items. It’s okay if the poors get hit by a car.

Thanks MP, I'm right across the bridge from Camden NJ and much of what was said in the vox video is soon true. Lol I'm one that hates those newer box 5 over 1 buildings. Lol no getting around the fact that they are butt ugly.
Philadelphia is definitely in the midst of a affordable housing crash. There simply isn't any

I am seeing a lot of those 5 over 1 style buildings going up in the NJ suburbs over the river from Philly.

I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos on how single family zoning laws, and urban sprawl, are bankrupting cities because of all the infrastructure it requires. Fascinating subject.

The vast majority of American cities just aren’t designed with the density required for mass transit to be effective. I watched an interesting video about urban islands, dense housing areas surrounding the suburban business areas, that made a lot of sense though, basically very localized mass transit that stays within its neighborhood and only connects to the rest of the city via the islands.

One aspect of making most of your income in cash tips is one may not be good with money mgt etc. One thing I like about my weekly pay is it is the same amount every week, a certain max percentage goes to 401K, taxes, etc and live on the net pay.

Suburban business areas? Like business parks?

For now, a concept that is just moving into development. Housing is a good community development area to participate in. Interesting and if done properly good P.R. A potential win - win.

That sounds a lot like a Garden City. EPCOT was a Garden City.
