Disney World Canada??????

I learned today that Disney has acquired a huge amount of land just outside of Ottawa, Canada. A land broker said they purchased a huge amount of land with the idea of creating a theme or amusement park of some kind. At present there is only one large sized amusement park in Ontario that being Canada's Wonderland. The developer stated that the Ottawa area has been looking for something to challenge Canada's Wonderland which is run by Paramount. I am hoping to get some more information in the next couple of days but I was just wondering if anyone had heard any news on this. There has been no major announcement of any plans by Disney, but an attraction of a rather large scale seems to be what the politicians in Ottawa are looking for so I would assume teh land and taxes are probably at a very low rate. The benefits are obvious for all involved. Any ideas????Anyone????Any News????? Sorry to post with little other info but this could be something major. Obviously not on the scale of Disney World but who knows what they are planning.

Uh, no.

Just because it's Disney dosn't mean it's a theme park. Considered audio, video, videogames, movie, or other division might use it?

I thought DL Ohio was wack...

Another thing is that everyone says there "In the know about new Disney parks". And there always happening outside of their town.

Take it with a gain of salt dude.

and just as Testtrack321 said it doesn't mean it has to be a outdoor theme park.

I agree. Any cold-weatherd climate would really hurt any outdoor rides. The minute it started snowing or getting really (like under 20) cold, the rides wouldn't be able to operate.

Plus, who wants to walk around in sub-zero temperatures in the middle of winter. I know the six flags in this area close during the winters, but what's the point of building a park if you're not going to always be open?

Perhaps you've heard of Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland? They operate in temps that usually do reach only 20 during the winter months. The rides usually operate fine, so the temperature isn't an issue. And people still tend to go to the parks in the winter time, so obviously there's a market for winter theme parks. And even if it were only open during the Spring and the summer, it'd still be worth building. Parks like Cedar Point, Six Flags, Kings Island, etc.. make a ton of money during just the spring and summer months.
I don't think Disney would bother building a park like this, but to totally discount it for those reasons is wrong, considering that many exisiting parks all provide counterexamples to those reasons

If Disney is crazy enough to build 2 parks in a volatile places like China & Tiawan, then Canada doesn't seem so far fetched.

If you could find out what amount of land, that would help in speculation. Besides, if Disney was going to build a new park in this continent, I think they would go through great pains to hide who the actual buyer was, to keep land costs from suddenly going up.

Bad idea...

Unfortunately most Americans know little to nothing about countries other than their own (less than 8 percent of the entire US population has a passport!). That being said, the South Eastern region of Ontario, where Disney just purchased land, snows less each year than many northern US states. And now to my point:

It would be a bad idea for Disney to build a park in Canada because of the weather change and the loss of revenue at the Florida parks. Most Canadians would save a lot of money by going to a Canadian park, as our currency is currently valued less than that of the USD. So WDW = more money for Disney from Canadians.

BTW, when was the last time you left your cozy little country?

who specifically are you asking?
I don't think this has anything to do with journeying outside one's own country, nor does international travel necessarily mean that one's mind is open to new ideas or that the traveler is inherently more intelligent than someone who does not journey outside their own cozy little country.

Well I guess it is safe to say that there are a whole lot of real winners that come to these message boards. I am guessing people like Cosmo only selectively read posts. At no point did I say Disney was building a theme park, but is it a definite NO??? Of course not. Nothing ever is and it is ignorant to say that you know everyone else is stupid and wrong. My point was they bought a lot of land, a movie studio sounds like a great possibility to me. Ottawa has a huge tech sector and maybe a new animation studio may be in order or perhaps with it being cheaper to film in Canada, Disney wants to move production north. At no point was I suggesting a Disney theme park with resort hotels and the like. My suggestion was an amusement park possibly where people would go for the day for cheap thrill rides. Perhaps it would have absolutely no references to Mickey and friends and perhaps may be based on other characters, or no characters at all. it may never even bear the Disney name. But to be so ignorant as some people are to put down other people makes you look like the joke that you really are. these forums are for ideas, rumors and enjoyment. get a life if you cant just enjoy talking Disney and speculating on what ifs.

dude...chill...if you would read the posts you'd notice that i also just speculated about perhaps a tv/movie studio (actually agreeing with you so calm down). then i made a joke about putting a park in a hostile environment, which though it didn't have ANYTHING to do with you original post was just supposed to make you chuckle and smile which i thought was the whole point of this webpage...to have fun.

jeez.....:hammer:
