Weather can be a really mixed bag. It might be in the 70's on Monday and in the 30's on Wednesday. You chances of rain are a bit lower but unlike the summer when it rains it tends to last all day. Crowds will be mild at the beginning of December but will go to flat out insane levels during the week of Christmas to New Years. Park closures due to capacity are common during that week.

I am of the opinion that this is the best time of the year to go. (Dare I say the most wonderful time of the year?) The weather can vary, but it is never intolerable. It can be as warm as the 70's for a daytime high, or as cold as the 50's for a daytime high. The nights can be as warm as the 60's, and as cold as the high 30's. Taking several layers of clothes is a good idea. Looking at a ten day forecast for the area on the internet just before the trip would help you to plan for the weather in a better way. The parks are decorated beautifully, and the mood is pretty festive. The Osborne Family Lights at DHS are a must-do. I can not recommend a Holiday trip enough. You will not regret it.

I have to agree with what Master Yoda and rsoxguy said. It is a mixed bag, but if you tend to go in early to mid-December you will have a nicer time with average to less than average to possibly light crowd levels and very nice weather.

I lucked out Dec. 11-16 2009. First day it was mid 60F, about 66F for a high and I saw locals with winter coats and mittens. It also drizzled a little and low temp was near 54F.

The next four days I thought it was summer season. Saturday topped out at 78F, then Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, 86F, 85F and 84F. Sunday Dec. 12-14 it was foggy at around midnight and the morning of Dec. 14 was super thick London-type fog. Overnight lows were around 67-69F. Very comfortable. Fog at night created a cool effect during the Holiday Wishes fireworks show and the aurora it created around Cinderella Castle.

Locals said it was very strange for weather conditions to be in the 80sF and fog. Wednesday when I left it managed to 74F but there was a persistent wind that didn't make it so hot. It was nice. Wore a shirt, light sweater and shorts.

Funny thing though. Attended Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on Dec. 13. I decided to wear a Christmas wool sweater and don a Santa cap. Wrong idea. I was hot, but it was well worth it. Sort of felt like the cast members and those inside the character costumes.

So, it all depends. I left my winter coat in my car back home and brought 2 sweaters, 2 pairs of shorts, and a light jacket. I was fine. But I would schedule another December Orlando trip.

Everyone has pretty much said it all! I just wanted to say hello & welcome to the site, and to tell you about my experience at Christmas time!

I went from December 2nd-9th, and crowds were wonderfully small. Those who said that crowds are smaller earlier in December are right! We went to the Magic Kingdom, and did Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. It was fun, and we got cocoa & cookies throughout the park. It also snowed on Main Street, and we got pictures with characters in their holiday gear. I thought it was worth attending.

At Epcot, we watched the lighting of the tree & the Candlelight Processional. Both were great, and created such a different experience at Epcot from what I was used to. I agree that it is the most wonderful time to visit WDW because of things like this.

At Hollywood Studios, we did the Osbourne Spectacle of Lights. I was completely blown away by the displays. This was my favorite holiday activity. It also "snowed" there, and we got a really nice photopass picture that shows the snow & lights.

Have a wonderful trip! We also mini-golfed at Winter Summerland's Winter course in spirit of the season. I have some pictures from the whole trip here: http://jstarla33.shutterfly.com/1765?startIndex=0

We went this past year Dec 1-6. The first of the week was really warm and we were able to wear shorts during the day with a light jacket at night. By the end of the week, the cold and rain set in. The crowds were really light and we were able to walk on to some rides. The decorations totally made the experience. The castle at MK was so beautiful it made me cry! We also enjoyed the Osbourne Family Dancing Lights at HS. It was the best trip ever.

Two words - Osborne Lights!

Don't miss them at Disney Hollywood Studios. My daughter and my absolute favorite! Over 5 million lights dancing to music with 30 snow machines...You have to be there and experience it to believe it!:xmas::sohappy:

We went in Dec '08, and the weather was generally warm enough during the day that you didn't want long sleeves and cool enough in the evening that you did, but--like someone else mentioned--watch that 10-day forecast for a good idea of what to pack.

Also, one tip: if you can't (or don't want to) spring for the Mickey Christmas Party, get a table at Ohana for a possible view of the fireworks. We accidentally did this in '08, and it was pretty nice. I like to FEEL the fireworks, but it was still nice to see and hear the narration/music in Ohana.

Disney at Christmas time is the best time hands down. Nice weather, and if you live in a state like WI like me, it never gets cold.

I have to laugh at people bundled up when its only 50 degrees.

Small crowds, perfect weather, and the Christmas feeling, how can you go wrong?

I only hope other people don't get the gumption to go.
