Disney World: 2004

Hello Everyone,
As of now, there are no planned new attractions opening in any of the 4 WDW Parks in 2004. Do you all think they will actually not open anything in 2004? What are the chances of a smaller, less exciting attraction being added? Maybe new animals in AK? Darkrides anywhere? Major rehabs? Anything like this?

If Disney and Jim Henson Co come to an agreement and Disney buys out the company, you might expect a major revamp of Muppet Vision 3D in the very near future. Since the theater is already there, a revamp of the show and "in-house" effects would not take very long at all, and it is due for a rehab soon anyway.....also look for the Alien Encounter/Stitch rehab for Spring/Summer 2004

Mission: Space and Philharmagic are 2003, they are built and have already gone through numerous testing phases. They are really close. 2004? Who knows, probably gonna slow down before all the construction for the big Epcot 25th bash in 2005-2006.

I don't think there's ever been a year without anything new opening. I don't just mean rides, but like new stores and stuff. If you have the WDW Explorer, check out the timeline. They never say "Nothing happened this year".

I would like to go Spring 2004...

I wonder if anything would be added (or deleted) by then...

Hmm...

It really doesn't matter, just so long as Mission: Space has opened!!:D

:)

Epcot turns 25 in 2007...Disneyland turns 50 in 2005, and the 50 Years of Magic celebration will span all four (five by then) Disney Resorts. Disney is really centering in on the opening of California Adventure's Tower of Terror in 2004. At that time, Everest will be in full swing, Pop Century will finally open, and some other attractions will probably open--Time Racer will be in the works, but if they really want to build a Soarin' attraction, it could open in late 2004--not nearly as tough to build as a mountain, since it would be a clone w/ a new video.

I'm sure something will be opening in 2004. A store or something, I just can see a year without something new. Maybe a revamped Cirqu de Soleil show or something. Walt knows something will open somewhere.

How about a new show at MGM in the Hunchback theatre? MGM is the only park with no big project in the works, so something (at least small) must be in the works to open by 2005 there...

Unless, if you believe the story at an earlier thread, the show was shut down because the permit for the theater building was only for a temporary structure, and the time limit had run out. In that case, they might need to do a complete rebuild and repermitting of the theater before they can reopen it.

Personally, I would like to see something like the Hyperion Theater from DCA come here, and that would be a good place for it...since that part of the park is pretty much empty.

I don't think so. M:S is not built - it is still being built. A recent photo of the shop shows empty space and construction materials inside.
Do you honestly think that Disney would miss the opportunity to capitalise on the (expected) Easter crowds by not opening M:S. Park admissions are down - a major ride like this would be opened as soon as possible if it meant more revenue during these slower times.

One of the centrifuges is complete and has gone through extensive testing. Since it works, and all necessary changes have been made to this centrifuge, they can finish building the other three centrifuges (which I'm sure they are in the process of doing) with the new specifications that work, and after minimal testing of the other three (minimal is, obviously, all relative), get the ride up and running--they can always open it with decreased capacity, too (say, with only two of the centrifuges up and running), and open the others when they are done. The queue area is far along, as is the post show area--the store may still hold construction equipment, but the room itself is there--it would not take long to install shelves, souvenirs, and registers--that could easily be done in a day or two. But, you are right--disney will have this open as soon as it is ready, which Eisner will make sure of--he is, of course, demanding that this ride open by July 4th, and we will see how that plays out...a lot can happen (good and bad) in 3½ months.

I can only hope M:S will be open by June 17th.....I'll be at WDW from June 9th through the 17th, here's to hoping for a soft opening at least.
