Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon

I am very skeptical and not happy about the virtual queue.

I have several unanswered questions about it too. I honestly hope it fails. If Disney wanted to do something serious with merch they would restrict it to runners only at the very least. Or simply make more of it to combat the frenzy.

Just be aware of this note - "Guests can join the virtual queue from the comfort of their hotel room or home, up to approximately 45 miles away from Walt Disney World Resort."
Why do they have to make this process so difficult? I was already stressed now I have to worry more about this. I may not be able to buy merch because of this rule. Maybe they will open up different times or the VQ will simply go away as the day goes on.

EDIT: This should be limited to runners only as well.

I am so glad I’m past the point of wanting merch any more. I appreciate that they’re trying to fix a major problem, but I don’t think any solution will ultimately please everyone.

If they limited the expo to runners only, I could see resellers start trying to buy up bibs, or paying runners to act as “merch mules”. An RSP or pre-order process would be great, but then I’m sure they’d lose out on a lot of impulse buying and the inability to look at sizes/designs before committing. I see complaints around every option that’s suggested. It’s tough…

Fly jetBlue for free wifi and the most legroom in coach!!
As stated above, I can’t even join the virtual queue from the plane. So, I really don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m hoping they open it up later in the day. That’s the only shot I have (as well as anyone else flying in that day) to get merch.

I still can’t believe they didn’t even consider this.

Dumb idea on their part.

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
Would be great if they gave you a ticket to enter the merch area when you got your bib on Day 1. That would naturally pace the flow into the merch area a bit and ensure runners get access. Then, days 2-3, let the resellers and anybody else run wild.

I agree but... some resellers would then buy bibs.
Some would, but I imagine an up front cost of even just $125 (or whatever the 5K is without taxes) might cause a few to save their energy for easier opportunities (Disney has plenty of limited release stuff to stand around for at the parks too). It would take a little time, but I think runDisney could always weed out resellers by comparing those that check in at the expo but don't cross the start line for any races multiple times (without explanation) and prohibit them from future registrations.

runDisney barely has enough people as it is. They won't take the time or effort to do that.
