Like many have said it can't be compared. Disney has a magical feeling while Universal has an excitement and Cutting edge feeling. They are two different environments and two different feelings. I will say Epcot is one of the best theme parks in the world. On the other hand IOA is as well and USF is close behind. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom don't really do anything for me, but Hollywood Studios and Epcot sure do.
IOA has great detail
USF has my most favorite movie icons
HS has.....a hat
Epcot has an awe inspiring message about working to become a global community. Many find it cheesy or boring, but is there a park on Earth that brings the countries together like Epcot. No

Both are worth a visit....the Mouse and the Globe will dominate the theme park industry for eternity..eternity...eternity
sorry ride homage.

There's only one other place that is making a product anywhere near as great as Disney, and that's Universal. No where else are there as immmersive environments and unique ways of integrating story and theme into attractions. Not six flags, not Cedar Fair, not even Sea World. Just Disney and Universal. So as long as we are all fans of this kind of stuff, why not take as much as we can get? I'll take 'em both.

So, yeah, go to Universal when you get a chance. Its fun.

Bush Gardens Williamsburg actually does an amazing Job of theming based on European nations... and I am guessing the one in Tampa also does a good job though I have never been there

though it still doesn't really compare to Disney or Universal

Happy Hour at Universal Studios > than overpriced drinks at any theme park!

Very true, especially the double SoCo and Coke's after the Simpsons!

Cigarz in Citywalk is also great, not too many tourists go there and they offer more than the normal Bud Light and Miller crap, as does most Uni bars.

I find that the Uni bartenders also are a bit more generous with their pours too!

Thanks for the add on, I probably made a pretty broad assumption with my original post as there are a number of parks I haven't visited. I think the idea still stands firm, though. There are very little places out there doing what these parks are doing and actually getting it right. I've been to Cedar Fair parks and Six Flags parks, and I always see these attempts at theming, but nothing comared to what Universal and Disney accomplish.

I don't want to be the one that gets the ugly ball rolling, but I do not even think it is that close between Disney and US. In my opinion Disney is the hands down winner. From their theme parks to the resorts and water parks and entertainment districts and golf courses and everything else. US is nice, but Disney is in a class all by itself. I am not afraid to say it either.

That's kind of a contridiction WDWFan. Thankfully this hasn't turned into anything ugly at all. Everyone has their own opinions.

Which has better parks? I've never been to Universal or Islands of Adventure but I plan to some time. I just wanna know which parks are better to see-the Disney parks or Universal parks.

Cleanliness- Disney gets the edge here. We were down there for their last night of US Mardi Gras party. We went in the next morning and all of the MG decorations were still up and the streets were still littered with the confetti from the night before.

Rides (thrill)- US/IoA gets the nod here as, IoA is pretty much all thrill and roller coasters

Rides (general)- Disney (of course) has more to offer to every one, not just the thrill seeker.

Shows- This one's had for me because I've never really seen too many of the US shows. So I won't compare them for the time being.

Hotels- Disney ALL THE WAY. You can't beat the selection of hotels that Disney World Resort offers it's guests. Universal has three on-site hotels to offer it's guests. Never stayed in them, and US just doesn't have the draw for me to want to stay there. Plust you are immersed in Disney 24-7 while on property.

Why would anyone be afraid to say that?

Well that would perfectly qualify you to rate them then wouldnt it.

Things I think Universal does better than Disney:

Perks for hotel guests- FOTL can't be beat and overall they are comparable to the higher end deluxe Disney hotels and usually less expensive.

Location- EVERYTHING is within walking distance, no buses

Counter Service restaurants- In general, Universal has better food than most of the CS places at Disney

Un-Stroller Encounter- Unlike Disney, most kids are a bit older so less strollers running into you everywhere

Thrill Rides- self-explanatory, faster, taller, and more high-tech

Mythos- the best theme park restaurant (for the price) anywhere

Value- tickets and AP passes are very inexpensive compared to Disney

I agree with everything except I don't think Universal's Counter Service is better. I have had good experiences, but a higher ratio of bad experiences than at Disney. When I go to Universal, I would MUCH rather pay a few more dollars and eat at Mythos.
Mmmmm Mythos! :slurp:

I went to US in 2004 when I was in Orlando for choir.
My biggest thrill was seeing the outside of Nick Studios and the big spinning globe in person after watching it on the end credits of some of my favorite shows growing up! The geiser too. But it's all gone now!

I'll always be a Disney girl, but once Harry Potter moves in to Universal Studios I'm gonna have to make a trip!! Maybe I'll forgive them long enough to see it.

(But I'll probably still end up staying on disney property!)

I haven't been to Universal yet...though, on my family's vacation this July/August we're booked at the Portofino Bay Hotel on Universal's property for 4 nights prior to our 7 day WDW Vacation. We plan on experiencing everything Universal/SeaWorld, etc. has to offer, so I'll make my judgement as to which is better (if possible) then. I have friends that scream that WDW is no match for Universal. They say Universal is "over the top" on a lot plains. I'll be looking forward to see if it is true for myself. I love WDW, and probably always will, but I expect I'll like Universal as well, while I may not have an opinion as to which is better, my opinion may well be that I'll enjoy both for their own unique qualities...but, we'll see.
