As I have posted on other threads; check the age groups going to each park. Disney seems to be more and more building to cater to the three to ten year age group. Especially by tying everything to a Disney animated fairy tale. This drives those who only want more thrill rides absolutely bananas. Most Universal rides and shows, on the other hand, are darker, more intense and of the thrill varity which appeal to the tweens, teenagers and young adults. If you want to avoid stroller jams, go to Universal.
If you tend to suffer from motion sickness or are older, there are fewer rides to enjoy at Universal. Also, Universal is nowwhere near as handicapped friendly as Disney. The rides or attractions you CAN go on are enjoyable. We really liked Hogsmead and are looking forward to visiting Daigon Alley as the attention to detail is incredible.
Universal is trying to appeal to a younger crowd with Cabana Bay and the Minions themed rooms. Disney is trying to appeal to an older crowd with its street parties and possibly with the new Avatar Land.
As for us, we always drive down to Orlando and spend three to four weeks at the parks. We stay on property at Disney and go to Universal for two days. Sometimes we go to Sea World for another two days and/or visit some other central Florida attraction. The remaining time is spent in the Disney parks, visiting the various hotels, trying the various restaurants, playing miniature golf, just relaxing or doing whatever else strikes our fancy. There is not much we haven't seen or done on Disney property. We have never been the three rides and have seen everything worthwhile types
