Disney Universal or both

For the vacation visitor to WDW is it worth doing both parks or just WDW? The cost of a 6 day WDW ticket is just 20.00 more 5th an. 4 day ticket. The cost of going over to Universal for a 2 day park pass with transfer from WDW is 220.00. For a family of 4 is it worth the $800.00 extra to go Universal for 2 days? Or is it a better idea just to stay at WDW and use fast pass plus?

The answer to this question will determine if next gen was worth the expense and which company will have the largest increase in 2014 attendance. This is a case of technology vs new rides. If it were just new rides in 2014 Universal would win hands down. If Disney gains more customer than technology wins.

I totally don't get the point of this thread or the argument you are trying to present, but here goes:

The last time I was at Universal was 13 years ago. I've been to Disney 6 times in that timespan. The reasons are numerous. Mostly due to the kids ages. WDW offered more for them both to do. UNI would have been a waste of money.

However, my upcoming trip, we are doing BOTH Disney and Universal. The reasons are a combination of the kids both being older now to appreciate Universal and my wife and I really wanting to go back to Universal. It is a very nice resort/parks.

Normally we go to the beach for 2-3 days after WDW, so cost wise, we are spending less to go to UNI than the beachfront hotel because of a Hotel deal we had gotten.

So my decision has nothing to do with FP+ or Technology or new rides. It's more to do with wanting to visit both sets of parks on this visit. In fact, I am happy Diagon Alley isn't opening until after we are gone. That area opening would bring HUGE crowds and isn't something I want to deal with. There is already enough stuff that will be "new" to us.

I would say it depends on the age of your children. We came over from the uk last year for the 7th time but this time was our first with our 4 year old. We have enjoyed both in the past and had intended to go to both this time but when it came to it we only stayed on property. We took it slower at the parks so it all took longer than expected and we ran out of time to fit in uni. It also saved us quite a few dollars for a 2 day pass. Next time we come I'm sure we will take a longer vacation ( 2 weeks instead of 10 days) and do both as our daughters well be that much older.

Oh goody, another Universal vs. WDW thread....

But alas, Universal doesn't have monorails.
This is not a thread about which park is better. This is an economic issue and question. For those who want to go to universal alone there is no question staying on Disney property is a waste of money. They should stay At Cabana Bay and save money. This is more a question aimed towards seeing if next gen will work. We all know your answer. Mine is I don't know for sure but believe it will and I would like to know what others think, not those of us who post all the time.

Next trip we will be doing both. Dying to see the new Harry Potter and Springfield sections. Planning a split stay between Disney property and Uni to take advantage of early entry and Front of line a Uni as well.

Actually, considering I have never been to Universal, you don't know my opinion. But using terms like "waste of money" more than places people into one category or another.

Of course, you can't search for monorail footers at Universal....

One Little Spark...
I don't see how the choice of a multi-day ticket upgrade vs a Universal 2 day is a testament to the success of FP+ or not.

Ticket packages and price strategies for both WDW and Universal have not changed since MM+ started... Why would FP+ be a factor?

I'm confused...

1. Depends on the age of your children
2. Depending on when your going, both Universal can be done in 1 day.
3. I don't see how next gen has anything to do with going to Universal or not... people go for rides, not bands. I like the rides at both Uni & Disney, so I go to both.

In theory My Magic+ could result in more people going to Uni. If the bands allow people to schedule rides more efficiently, they could get through all the rides they want to see at Disney in less time thus leaving them more time for Uni.

That is an interesting idea. Do three fast pass plus rides at Disney and a rope drop one and then head over to Uni. Could do 32 rides at Disney in 8 days with no wait. I never thought of that.

On our last trip to FL we spent one night at Uni and 1 day in the parks there before heading over to Disney for a few days. I'd do that again to be able to see the new Harry Potter expansion. My decision has everything to do with wanting to visit both parks and nothing to do with next gen.

For me, Universal is the enemy and their content sucks. I don't even consider going there. Yes, I'm a Disney apologist, so please don't try to give me a long story about how Universal is great.

With a lot of the posts here, you'd think this is a Universal forum.
