My best friend was supposed to leave October 10th for seven days at the Polynesian. She lives in Oceanside, CA. She and her husband decided to cancel. Disney has been very accommadating even offering her a rate of $174.00 per nite for when they do decide to go. She said they were very understanding of their decision.

Sorry to hear about that... I certainly hope the trip was not cancelled for fear of flying or other threats as a result of 9/11. :( :(

We are supposed to go early Nov. Since the second case of rep orted anthrax in Florida, I must admit I'm having second thoughts. A part of me wonders if there will be something bigger to come.

We swam along the Florida shores late this summer and I was nervous and leery allowing my family in the water. I knew the chances of trouble were remote, but I was still uncomfortable. I do not wish to go to WDW and feel a sense of dread.

If things remain as they are now, October 9, we'll most likely go.

:(

I hate to see people cancelling their trips because of this. If the anthrax thing doesn't get any larger (e.i. outside of that building) I would definitely go. The anthrax case seems to be an isolated incident and I wouldn't let you cancel your trip.

People have to get on with their lives and have faith in our government, military, and local authorities. Right now is probably the safest time to fly or visit tourist attractions.

that's an unfair statement. everyone has to make their own decision on whether they want to travel at this time. southwest airlines has a good slogan right now: "when you're ready to fly, so are we."

like wdwi, i believe there is no safer time to fly because of all the additional security and heightened awareness of terrorist activities. i, in fact, am going down to wdw in less than a couple weeks. but that doesn't mean i'm not concerned about the possibility that things could go wrong.

here in chicago, we've had at least two incidents in two days where some passenger tried to get into a cockpit. the first guy was some nut job off his medication and the second was a drunk. the good thing: in both cases, half the passengers on board got up when the flight attendant called for help.

my point is that people who postpone their vacation plans aren't supporting bin laden or being un-american. that's ridiculous. they are just being extra cautious so they can support their families. perhaps they're doing other things, like using part of their vacation money to make a donation to the red cross or something. you don't know.

disney is going to be around for a long, long time. and america is going to succeed in its war on terrorism. we can all do our part and follow the convictions of our hearts without ridiculing others.

That is so true. It is the same for people every where. People were asking me if I was still going to go. My reply was that you just have to get on, however hard it may be.

If people stop living their lives the scum that perpetrated these acts, have won.

Coming from Northern Ireland, perhaps I can say more than most that you have got to move forward and yet it is really hard at times because you need to bear in mind your kids and your circumstances. It would be a bit like "the pot calling the kettle, black" if I said that I was frightened to go to America. Come July, I'll be there - it's likely to be quieter there than here at that time of year!

Yeah the entire band is kinda worried about our up and coming trip to Disney. So far the trip is on and everythings good, but some nearby bands have cancelled their trips, (but i think they were flying). We get to take buses (nice 22hour trip, but its worth it). The school board will decide within a week or so if we're going or not, and I (just like everyone else I know) want to go incredibly bad.
-fingers crossed-

thanks, j. i was beginning to wonder whether anybody agreed with me on this.

i've given it some more thought, too. and what i was thinking was that these calls to do this or do that to prove you're an american or that you support america and condemn terrorism are certainly well-intentioned.

but, at the same time, the more gung-ho among us shouldn't fault those who look at everything that's going on and decide to play it safe until they feel a greater level of comfort.

it ain't like somebody who decides to put off a trip to disney is dodging the draft. last time i checked, you could spend money anywhere. on that, check out the lead "news in brief" item at www.theonion.com. it's on-point and hilarious.

I appreciate your words, Dopey.

For me, it comes down to one very simple question - Will my family be safe? That's all that matters. In light of the various arrests here in Chicago with passengers causing trouble in flight, we are driving.

If all else remains the same, we will be at WDW from 11/3-11/11.

Here's My thoughts on this subject.

I have gone thru several stages since September 11th

First Shock
Then Fear
Then Anger
Then Apprehension
Now I am going through a stage I call DEFIANCE

I am going to Walt Disney World on October 22nd.
I am flying out of Chicago's Ohare airport.
I will be sitting in the aisle seat and if ANYONE, be it a drug crazed stoner, a paranoid drunk, a bonified looney, or even Usama Bin Laden himself tries to slow down, missdirect, mess with the pilots, or try and crash the plane...I'm going to kick their until Hell won't have it.

I refuse to spend the rest of my life looking over my shoulder or worrying about what may or may not happen.

I do respect anyone elses decisions if they decide to drive instead of fly or if they cancel plans...but I have to do what I feel is right for me and my family. I don't want to spend 4 days of my 7 day vacation driving because of some whacked out terrorists threats.

Now...I'm going to Disney World and I'm going to have a great time and thats that. ;)

Wow, I think I just found my new best friend!! I like the way you think... and I'm glad there is gonna be somebody else on a plane who is gonna be kicking the guys besides me!! :brick: :brick:

Dopey - I love The Onion! I knew there was something else I liked about you - other than your impeccable taste in wines! ;) The Onion reports that hugging is up 76,000 per cent! I especially like the article "A Shattered Nation Longs to Care About Stupid Bull**** Again".

Your comments are right on. I wanted to say more but why should I rehash what you have already stated perfectly? :)

there is nothing funnier than the onion. not saturday night live, not any tv sitcom, not even ted koppel's hairpiece (though it's a close second).

last week's issue was even better.

my favorites stories were the ones about the terrorists being surprised to find themselves in hell when they were expecting 72 virgins or what the number of virgins they were supposed to get and the one about dinty moore breaking its long silence on terrorism with a full-page ad.

I am going to Disney World on November 16th. I am taking a large group of people ranging in age from 5 to 82 and everywhere in between. My wife and her sister have expressed some concerns but I tell them that we all need a little Disney Magic to help heal our spirits. This trip has been planned for over a year and as a group we have really decided that there is no reason not to go. While I can understand the decisions of others, I believe that we have lived in security for so long that we do not know how to deal with actions that take us out of our comfort zone. For selfish reasons, I hope that the crowds stay away while I am there but as a Disney stockholder, I want everyone to go. If as we all hope Disney keeps expanding and improving, attendance must remain at high levels.
