Disney Transport question

Watching Disney Transport move around last week got me wondering, does anybody know how large the bus fleet is that handles the parks/resort traffic? Between the bus, monorail, ferries, they really do an excellent job getting people from point A, B, C, etc..

I don't doubt 263. They had them backed up in the parking lot just waiting getting people out of the parks at night. As one cast member said "don't worry, we have plenty of busses".

One other thing, we noticed while waiting at Downtown for a bus back to Pop. There was bus with "REMY" on the lighted sign that pulled up in one spot. Anyone know what that is?

That is a bus that went out of service at Downtown Disney and was only dropping off passengers (though the same thing would happen at any other stop). If you are ever on WDW roads well after the parks have closed, you end up seeing many "REMY" buses returning to their homes. Back in the day, those buses used to just say "SPECIAL" on the destination sign, but, apparently, somehow, some people found it offensive. (I guess those people shouldn't go to anywhere else that has buses because "SPECIAL" is actually a pretty standard sign on most bus systems.) Anyway, after "SPECIAL" was phased out, the signs would say any of a number of things, such as "MICKEY MOUSE" or "DONALD DUCK" or "ARIEL." Since the Magic in Motion system went live last year, the buses all pretty much display the same message. I believe that another poster explained on this forum that the different messages now reflect the software version of the MiM software installed on the bus. "MICKEY MOUSE" was for the first version and, at least when I moved from Florida in May, "REMY" was the latest version.
