More cruise magic is coming to Galveston.
Disney Cruise Line will announce Wednesday morning that the Disney Magic will sail 12 seven-night cruises from the Port of Galveston to the Western Caribbean beginning Sept. 22, 2012. Ports of call include Grand Cayman and Mexico's Costa Maya and Cozumel.
Rates for the seven-night Western Caribbean cruise itinerary departing from Galveston will start at $840 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy, according to a Disney news release. One travel agent said not to expect sales for passage aboard the ship that sleeps up to 2,700 passengers.
"Mickey does not go on sale. That cheese is way too expensive," said Steve Cosgrove, owner of Dallas area Dynamic Travel.
Disney's Magic will join the Carnival Cruise Lines' ship called Carnival Magic, which begins sailing from Galveston on Nov. 14. Carnival's Triumph will also begin sailing out of Galveston on Oct. 6. Carnival's Ecstasy and Conquest now sail out of Galveston but will be repositioned to New Orleans.
Royal Caribbean International's Voyager of the Seas also calls on Galveston. And in December, Princess Cruises' Crown Princess will also sail out of Galveston.
Meanwhile, the Port of Houston Authority's $71 million Bayport Cruise Terminal still doesn't have a ship regularly calling on the facility that was built in 2009.
Cruise lines are more interested in sailing out of Galveston because its downtown shopping, hotels and Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark appeal to travelers while the closest major tourist attractions to Bayport are Kemah and NASA, said Cosgrove.

Yep, Tater posted this link last night. It's still not official until Disney announces tomorrow, but it's exciting!

And I personally would recommend Schlitterbahn Galveston over Schlitterbahn New Braunfels (the original that the Travel Channel always picks as their #1). We far prefer Galveston. :D

Where? Schlitterbahn Galveston or New Braunfels? I want to go to the one in Kansas City when they finish it! :D

Any of them! Everytime it's on the Travel Channel I want to go! We have one of the top ten waterparks on there in Denver (like that makes any sense ) but Schlitterbahn looks awesome!

My sister moved to San Antonio last summer so I should make it soon!

Funny- we prefer New Braunfels, but that's probably b/c that would mean a tubing trip is also involved. :sohappy: Of course Galveston is WAY more convenient and still really great as far as water parks go.

Either way- super exciting about the cruise info! I can get get to Galveston in 30-40 min :D I saw the article this afternoon and passed it on to all of my coworkers...much joy!!!

I have a Castaway Club email that says go to Disneycruise.com at 1:00 Eastern time.

It doesn't say if it's a webcast or just a post. But either way, it looks like it's after.

Ah! You totally should go. The 2 that I've been to have been a blast!

I hear ya! Both are great parks. I think we liked Galveston better because it's smaller and everything is really easy to get to vs. having to travel to the other 1/2 of the park at the NB location. When it's hot and I'm dripping wet the laaaast thing I want to do is get on a tram vehicle. At Galveston we stake out our spot early where we're close access to the river with shade. Then we can relax and take the river wherever we want to get to. Love the conveyor and the rapids for the river, too. We thought the torrent area was better in Galveston. And, at NB some of the slides are fed by the fresh water off the river (I think). That river water is really cold! I wouldn't tube in it unless I had a floating cooler loaded with beer to keep me warm from the inside out. I'm such a wuss when it comes to cold anything. LOL! I don't know how I ever managed tubing and swimming in the natural springs around Florida when I was a kid. Heehee!

Isn't it exciting about the cruises?! Galveston is about 2 hours for us (give or take depending on the line for the ferry). Love love love the thought of popping over to the port there for a Disney cruise!!! :sohappy:
