Disney has hired as young as 15 for as long as I can remember in certain positions. My brother was hired at All Star in 96 and he was only 15.

yup... they've done this for years. This isn't anything new.

Would someone please tell me what 'resort dispatch' is??? :veryconfu

Resort Dispatch is responsible for the following:
-Working the valet booth and keeping track of all the keys, taking payment for valet services, giving guests directions, sending valets to park and retrieve cars.
-Working the Bell Stand and making sure guests luggage is stored properly in the luggage room, that the Bellmen bring the luggage to guests in their rooms in a timely manner and also retrieve departing guests bags.
-Keeping the luggage room neat and orderly and making sure the baggage logs are updated correctly.
-Any guest luggage transfers from one resort to another are handled by Resort Dispatchers as well. If there are guests going from Boardwalk to Contemporary, for example, their bags will be loaded by a Dispatcher onto one of the company vehicles and driven over to The Contemporary, brought to the luggage room and logged in.

Yes, they are in need of people right now. In fact, they are in DESPORATE need of people. To many open positions at this time.

It’s busy here, people are coming, tourism is up again, and large crowds this summer.

I am definatly applying next summer (have I already said that?). I'll be 16 June 21, 2006! YAY! :D lol. I wish I had a relative working there. I bet if I did my geneology (sp?) I could find someone related to me down there! O well...I can wait a year I guess. I'm guessing they WILL hire for just the summer won't they? I sure hope... I'm gonna get on the employment website RIGHT NOW and see what I can apply for.

Yea i can understand the need to make up for the lack of employees but think about this, Disney is known for their exceptional service. Do you really think you are going to get quality "disney service" with a fifteen year old? Just something to ponder about.

Now I think that might be a bit harsh. If a 15-yo WANTS to work at WDW and possesses a decent level of maturity, I would argue they may provide even better quality service than many CMs there now. I really find age itself has little to do with quality; it is mindset. As long as Disney does an adequate job screening, training (which is debateable given the current trends), and monitoring activities, I think this could create the possibility of some good long-term CMs.

And yet, they make it really difficult (virtually impossible) for well qualified, Disney-loving foreign candidates to work there on a permanent basis.

It is not easy, or cheap, for a company to sponsor a work-visa (other than a J1, which is good for 18 months) for an unskilled position.

huh, well, I just hope they are mature 15 year olds. Even Gradnight (The people attending) were quite , well what's the word...lame) BUT, if they are releated to other Disney CM's, I guess they might know a little mor about how to handel things. Still have to be 16 for character which is good, but Well we all know my age so I might get out of the pool soon! or do I even want to?

PS- I graduate in a few hours! Yeah!

I have to agree...as long as they show a sense of work ethic, fine....but I fear, like many at this age...they will be trying to impress their peers. As a patron, I do expect the same level of service regardless of your age.....and to be frank, it depends on how the child was raised. I have one major question...where do these 15 year olds live. From some of the post here, I see where a few have said they could not wait, they will be 15 and can work there ..... but reading where they live, it is not even in Florida.

nah... among the hourly roles in WDW, Custodial probably gives you the most freedom to make your own decisions and gives you the most abilities to interact with guests. But then there's the flipside, you're a friggin overglorified janitor.

I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news...

WDW better be careful with which 15 year olds they hire. I know a lot of 15 year olds now in my school are super mature and have more maturity than many of the eighteen year olds in my grade, but I personally think that would I have been 15 (instead of 17) today, I would of lacked the maturity that comes with delivering disney magic to paying guests.

So it's all a matter of picking the right people, but if they do pick the right people than I see no problem...

There aren't any more immature 15 year olds then there are 20 year olds, or 40 year olds. I know a lot of 15 year olds that would be perfect at the job. Age does not equal maturity. Look at Roy Disney. He is extremely immature (does 'Ding dong the witch is dead' ring a bell?). I know a lot of adults that are immature.
