Disney to Reveal Ambitious Star Wars Plans

Not sure who wrote that originally, but it's wrong. His net worth didn't go up overnight. If you have something worth $4 billion, and trade it for something else worth $4 billion, your net worth didn't change at all. You might have more liquidity, but not more wealth.
I get your point, but until Disney actually made an offer to purchases LucasFilm, how would you go about estimating its FMV? Yes, it was an asset to Lucas but how would you have measured it?

Dr: Cash $4M
Cr: LucasFilm, LLC $???M
Cr: Gain on sale $4M

Valuation specialists estimate the fair value of things that are illiquid, unique, rare, and special all the time. I personally can't do it, but I know lots of people who can and do.

Understood, but I think the post you were criticizing was written by a lay individual for a lay audience. Yes, technically when you create an asset from scratch, your net worth increases gradually over time as the asset appreciates, but I don't see the harm in referencing that date of sale as the date on which you recognize those returns in casual conversation.

I follow, but I do see the harm.

I'll look at the quote again. It was my understanding he already had billions in the bank...and then sold Lucas film for 4 billion.

From CNBC back in 2012:
"Even before Disney showered him with the mother of all liquidity events, George Lucas was a very wealthy man.

According to Wealth-X, Star Wars creator George Lucas had about $1.4 billion in cash, investments and other assets before the deal. That didn't include the value of his private companies, which included LucasFilm.

As first reported by CNBC's Julia Boorstin, Disney is paying $4 billion for LucasFilm and its related companies. Fully $2 billion of that will be in stock and $2 billion will be in cash. Since George Lucas never sold stakes in his companies and never took venture capital money, he gets the whole check.

The deal will bring his net worth to $5.2 billion after taxes, according to Wealth-X."

So yeah the quote was off some compared to the CNBC article but he did already have 1.4 in cash before the sale. Not bad.

Here is an article that talks about the demolition of the Echo Lake area in DHS for the Star Wars expansion.

http://*****.com/blog/2015/02/rumor...-dockside-diner-at-hollywood-studios-history/

From the article:
"Rumors are swirling that the Echo Lake area may close to be demolished by March 2015. This would include the actual lake, Gertie the Dinosaur, and Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner, all opening day features of the Disney-MGM Studios."

This is similar, if not exactly, what Jim Hill has reported on a "pay what you want" Disney Dish podcast. Jim said that walls will go up around Echo Lake soon after the BAH demolition is completed. He also said that there should be Star Wars expansion concept art up on the construction walls in time for the Star Wars weekends.

If his timeline is right, then it seems that the Star Wars celebration in Anaheim this April would be a good time to announce the additions.

Ugh. Why on earth would they do that to Echo Lake and that area? Just ticks me off honestly. Let's get back the great view down Hollywood Blvd but let's cement over the lake and get rid of Gertie and the boat. Wonderful idea.

They have so much other room for this stuff.

And people really wonder why so many of us are critical?

He wouldn't really go on record to say "we're going to build something cheap and lacklustre".
Would be hilarious though.

"Yeah, I mean really cheap and half assed. We're talking X-Wing, Tie Fighter spinner because we're still cutting edge in spinner tech and maybe a Chewbaca meet and greet. We know kids love big costumed dogs. Also, a cantina hot dog stand is in the works. I'd say we'll have it done by March, 2021."

Very true (as in Lucas was working to get the new trilogy made before he sold to Disney)

On another note...I'm sure George Lucas is loving the Disney deal on a Monetary basis. He never sold his shares of Disney Stock when they completed the deal. It was trading at 53 or 54 dollars a share then. Lucas currenlty owns 37 million shares of Disney.
Lucas has made a cool 1.7 billion dollars since selling to Disney for 4 billion. Not a bad chunk of change.

"On October 30th 2012, George Lucas announced that he signed a deal to sell his entire Lucasfilm company to Disney for a staggering $4 billion. Lucas owned 100% of the company which means the entire $4 billion went into his pockets. His net worth more than doubled from $3.3 billion to $7.3 billion, overnight!"

As Feb 4th, 2015. George Lucas is worth 10 billion dollars. A staggering some of money.

Increased liquidity correct, if we assume Disney didn't way overpay for SW?

Should've read more before posting. Of course, this post is now a throwaway post. I'll throw in a completely made up rumor - There will be a dance club in a full scale model of the Millenium Falcon. Little laser blasting trainer orbs will be used to create a disco effect.

I heard Jim Hill speak about this last year in the Sept. - Nov. timeframe. He also mentioned it again in December on a podcast with @lentesta. Sight prep/demo in 2015, with construction starting at some point in 2016.

There goes my old memories getting something from Gertie the Dinosaur back in the 1990's. I not shocked about that site mentioning the closing of Echo Lake though. I read about the closing of echo lake last year by one of the insiders on this forum. I actually expected this before Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular closes.
