Same here and I agree as well. Harry Potter was popular amongst a very large demographic, both males/females, young and old. LOTR and Star Trek does not have that wide range of popularity. However, Star Wars land definitely has more potential. The popularity of Star Wars Land will be predicated on how well these upcoming films do. If it does anything near as well as Avengers, this may be the jackpot Disney has been looking for in countering UNI's Diagon Alley and Hogsemeade.I love LOTR and Star Trek, but I can't see them driving the attendance like Harry Potter did. I guess we'll see.
There are a million things to do in DHS but the Star Wars land, from what the likes of @WDW1974 has said, should be great. Obviously that's assuming big budgets are kept which again, if you look at what insiders like @Lee have said, should remain since Disney is in a "spending mood." 2020-ish feels far and I hold out hope that they're well past the blue sky process and build soon but I trust @PhotoDave219 and his timeline.
The word of insiders is the closest we can get to fact on this site until things are announced. Generally, it's been cautious optimism from all fronts. Obviously I wish there was more in even less time, but I can't say I'm not excited for some new stuff. Hopefully a Star Wars land in Orlando lives up to the IP.
Any of our insiders hear anything recently about Gertie and Echo Lake? PhotoDave219? You were right all along about GMR.....
I was told the same thing about 10 months ago. I don't have any new info either, it's just a feeling I get.
And yes, when there was a phased opening plan (and there still could be), Anaheim was to get a couple of the things first, then DHS would get what's being added in Anaheim plus a couple of additional attractions about six months to a year later. That was mainly because of Pandora.
Now the timetable is so much later than originally envisioned that they'll probably open around the same time and WDW could be getting the whole enchilada at once.
Honestly, I don't agree. I would love to see a slow roll out, where the SW area of DHS gets expanded with each movie release....so it is all staged and gets the extra pull. I realize this is un-Disney like...but one can hopeThis is all a failure in my opinion. The end of this year is going to be star wars mania. There should have least been some attractions opened before the end of this year. With the rate Disney builds stuff, we're not going to see these attractions open until the 3rd movie is ready to come out.
It wasn't until 2003, the year Iger became CEO that both were cancelled./QUOTE]
You got your timeline mixed up when Iger became CEO. In 2003, Iger was only the president and chief operating officer back in 2003.
Proof that became CEO of Disney in 2005:
http://thewaltdisneycompany.com/about-disney/leadership/ceo/robert-iger
The article states "Prior to his current role, Mr. Iger served as President and Chief Executive Officer beginning October 2005 and President and Chief Operating Officer from 2000-2005".
yes, I would think, with everything they are closing, that they would have some type of plan to make changes a little quicker. I get a major restage of the area won't be completed until 2020, but I would think SOME kind or restage for restaurants or M&G or something could be done quicker. Then again, as you state look how long Avatar is taking....If they release a movie every two years, you figure the 2nd should be out in 2017 and the 3rd one should be out by 2019. We're looking at 3 years of construction for Avatar land. It would be nice if Disney can get something out there each year from 2016 to 2019, but I'd be surprised. All I'm saying is that at something besides star tours should have already been under way and completed by the time the first movie came out. At the very least by Spring 2016.
Agreed, and anyone who has been following the news about the movie, plus my very own star wars inside adjacent friend, the first move will be great. The story is awesome and JJ Abrams will accept nothing short of a perfect star wars movie. The two following movies however... who knows.. I really wish he was coming back for the episodic ones and let someone else handle the other stories. This is all a failure in my opinion. The end of this year is going to be star wars mania. There should have least been some attractions opened before the end of this year. Is she still a princess? I don't know if her lineage was changed due to her newly discovered history.Did you know that, after this movie is released, Princess Leah will become the oldest Disney princess.
This is the expansion you were looking for...
But, seriously. Does anyone know how plausible this is?
I read that if you take out the backlot tour and Lights-Motors-Action that there is ~13 acres that could be used.
The only weird thing with this possible setup is that it would separate the SW theme.
Rumors, speculation...all good fun. Isn't it? Just like the new SW movie(s).
What You are planning isn't possible. The Problem is the rumors about the Backlot Tour is supposed to be turned into a Toy Story land. The rumors from the true insiders on this forum. The LMA part also was rumored to be Pixar also on this forum. This is the expansion you were looking for...

I thought so, looking at that map and hearing about echo lake possibly disappearing, I can actually see that happening. Its probably not a terrible idea for a little extra room to play with. What You are planning isn't possible.
