Disney to Reveal Ambitious Star Wars Plans

I haven't checked out your link yet, but I thought Fire Mountain was a pet project of Eisner's and was cancelled right before construction was set to begin, which was was Iger became CEO.

EDIT - I just read your link. That's not proof. That's just a converation from here.

The truth is Fire Mountain and Bald Mountain were being developed. Fire Moubtain was going into Adventureland and had a subelement of the project that would have transformed Jungle Cruise into mostly an indoor dark ride. Fire Moubtain would have been built right on top of Jungle Cruise and the WDW Railroad, adding another indoor scene as well to the WDWRR similar to Splash Mountain.

Bald Mountain would have been built where FLE is. Between the two projects, being developed in parallel, Fire Mountain was gaining more momentum and probably would have been constructed first.

It is said that Eisner originally was going to build just one new mountain for the MK. He set up both development teams to compete for the project but oh one was to get built. Eisner loved how both projects were coming along, so he changed his mind and decided that both will be built. Hence, both were equally funded during the next round of development cycles. These were Eisner's pet projects. Eisner intended that both were going to get built.

It wasn't until 2003, the year Iger became CEO that both were cancelled. FLE replaced Bald Mountain and nothing replaced Fire Mountain. And Fire Mountain was all ready to go!
Makes me sad Fire Mountain never happened. It would finally give Adventureland a thrill ride/weenie of its own. POTC and Jungle Cruise are both classics, but neither visually draw people to them the same way Splash, Thunder, Space, or even SDMT do.

There are a million things to do in DHS but the Star Wars land, from what the likes of @WDW1974 has said, should be great. Obviously that's assuming big budgets are kept which again, if you look at what insiders like @Lee have said, should remain since Disney is in a "spending mood." 2020-ish feels far and I hold out hope that they're well past the blue sky process and build soon but I trust @PhotoDave219 and his timeline.

The word of insiders is the closest we can get to fact on this site until things are announced. Generally, it's been cautious optimism from all fronts. Obviously I wish there was more in even less time, but I can't say I'm not excited for some new stuff. Hopefully a Star Wars land in Orlando lives up to the IP.

Yes, I know! Fortunately, there is nothing there to stop them from building this in the future. Maybe update the plans, if they have become dated since they were shelved 15 years ago. A good idea is never wasted. Maybe it just wasn't its time yet.

Iger has nothing to do with Fire Mountain.

Fire Mountain was a canceled project under Eisner in the mid 1990's.

Iger being with Disney when Fire Mountain was a mid 1990's project before being canceled is very questionable since Disney Bought ABC in 1996.

Iger would none or little knowledge of Fire Mountain in the mid 1990's anyway since Iger was President and chief operating officer of Capital Cities/ABC aka ABC. Inc at the time. The positions he had I mentioned is as far away from theme parks as you get when Disney bought ABC and Iger had no say at all.

Proof of Fire Mountain being a mid 1990's project: http://web.archive.org/web/20110704...andfiles.com/tnf/disneyworld/firemountain.php
Fire Mountain, you say?

Right on! The movie has a slim chance of failure seeing how well JJ is treating the franchise, my only concern is if Disney will continue to do just enough. "just enough" is not enough for this IP, but 90% of guests aren't going to be picking it apart.

well the star wars fan boi community is worse than the disney fan boi community in terms of loving the product so im sure whatever is made will do well in terms of merchandise

my personal opinion is the movie will do incredibly well no matter what making over a billion and if its a good movie it will be around 1.7 billion or so
the land will do well at DHS...im wondering by 2019 will EPCOT be the least visited park at WDW

It sure is looking like it will be. I absolutely think that IOA and USF will top at least one of the disney resorts by next year. Depending on what 74's IOA news is, it could be by a good amount.

Seriously? I haven't seen 2014 numbers but based on 2013, Islands of Adventure would need to grow something like 25% to get to DHS levels even if DHS stayed flat. For reference, IoA grew a whopping 2% from 2012 to 2013.

I wouldn't say next year. There's still a decent gap between the parks. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if DHS drags out Star Wars and IOA passes DHS 3-4 years from now, due to all the construction in the park.

I don't know what is driving attendance for DHS... possibly the convenience of having another Disney Park to visit while you are there... If DHS was a standalone park it probably would have gone the way of Boardwalk and Baseball or Splendid China by now. IOA is in every way a superior park to DHS...not sure why the attendance numbers do not reflect this.

IOA has already gotten their Potter bump and I don't think there's any IP out there that will replicate that. Post-Potter, IOA and DHS both grew 2% in 2013. It's not going to overtake DHS any time soon, nor is it even closing the gap. It's keeping pace but still way behind and not gaining.

Perhaps Disney just lies about their attendance better than IOA does. With the stagnation at DHS I can't imagine that people will still be going there as much.

My only reasoning is padding numbers. Not that IOA is giving accurate numbers but they are both lying. I just feel like Disney can pad their numbers better by applying multiple visits and park hopping any way they want to. Last year their numbers were hugely inflated by their special events. Plywood cutouts are all the rage.

Neither group publishes that information. It's all estimates from third parties so nobody has the opportunity to "pad numbers."
