Disney to announce overhaul of DL Tomorrowland at D23?

I was waiting for Nemo, Autopia and Launch Bay to get demolished to only get my dreams squashed by the refurb of Nemo. Sighs…..so much wasted space to do things.
Considering the (what I am assuming is) extensive work being done on Nemo atm, it would make sense for them to hold off on a replacement for the attraction anytime too soon. Personally, I'll believe this rumor when I see it. At this point rumors of a Tomorrowland overhaul, or a brand new Journey Into Imagination (to give another example) feels like beating a dead horse. I'm sure it's felt that way for years now, but considering the current management I am less hopeful for projects such as this one to be addressed, at the very least with a proper budget. I guess only time will tell, but I really hope they address at least some things such as the rotting former Carousel Theater.

I wouldn’t necessarily use the Nemo refurb as a reason the TL announcement is not coming. They have probably saved 10x the amount the refurb costed by not having it running.
Also I think we can finally put to rest (not like it hasn’t been before but it’s totally dead now) that stupid urban legend that said Matterhorn would sink if the lagoon was not kept filled.

I had never heard that one before! What a strange rumor to spread!

Yeah I don’t see them bringing it back either. I think it’s totally doable but they probably just don’t have the interest in doing it. It’s not that I want the People Mover back per say it’s that I want the Tomorrowland on the move back and the People Mover is a big part of that. You feel about the People Mover the way I feel about the Skyway. It ain’t ever coming back.

Also, for reasons of safety, legal and architectural issues, the track cannot be removed either.

You forgot the part if the PeopleMover track was removed, it would release an evil demon that would keep Disney's accounting department from increases ticket prices. It is the only thing keeping the demon at bay.

Id bet my money that if they redid tommorowland it would have at least one marvel tie in like the Hong Kong Iron Man ride or the Antman and the Wasp ride taking over Buzz.

The most we can realistically hope for is removal of eyesores (PM tracks torn down, new rockets), a total replacement of the carousel building with a new attraction, a total replacement of the 3D theater (maybe revert to outdoor stage space), nice new landscaping and reskinning of existing buildings with coherent design choices.

It's not realistic to expect this management team to replace Star Tours or Buzz. They're "fine." The Space Mountain track was already rebuilt in 2005 and it still packs them in.

We're probably at the point where the whole Sub/Autopia complex is considered to be expendable IF a valuable enough IP comes along needing that space. But TDA wouldn't need to touch it (other than careful jackhammering of Peoplemover pylons) or the Autopia in order to still solve Tomorrowland's most pressing problems and to claim they're making an "All-New Tomorrowland". Any ideas they have for that area are probably going to be considered "New Tomorrowland Phase II" and, you know, won't amount to much.

However...

I'm pretty sure they're waiting to see if Avatar successfully turns into a hit film franchise. If so, Chapek will demand that DLR provides some sort of West Coast representation for the IP. And honestly, the area where Tomorrowland dissolves into Fantasyland is the best area for it. They might not have the room for full on Flight of Passage, but they could do the floating mountains, Navi River (Navi Subs?) or maybe some brand new Avatar attraction that could also be a part of a Pandora expansion at AK at some point.

I think that is realistic. They are never going to return to '70s tomorrowland no matter how much some want it. I can see the Avatar thing happening if the movies are successful. Navi subs could be very pretty and totally fit a sci-fi Tomorrowland. I just wish there was a big infrastructure change since those buildings have got to be getting close to end of life.

Why would you think any of those reasons would actually be the reason it can't be removed?

There is no law that says they can't remove it, so no legal issue.
As for safety, they knock down entire buildings without any safety issues. So it would be done at night when guests aren't present if the land remained open and if closed they can do it whenever, so not much of a safety issue.
And as for architectural issues, none of the buildings are going to fall down if its removed, so no architectural issues either.

So yeah I can't see how any of that is correct.

Great idea! Especially if they use my new Crabsuit design from my new movie Avatar: The Way of Water. You can see the trailer in front of Dr. Strange this weekend.
