Disney surveying guests regarding resort features

I really like idea of the room coming alive.

For example, in the Swan and Dolphin, maybe the room can come alive to tell you the story of the swan and dolphin. Then you go outside and the hotel architecture makes sense beyond just looking nice... aha! Then they could sell the swan and dolphin as characters in the gift shop... aha! And they could charge people more... aha! But seriously, overall it'd make for a better experience. That's just one example I'm picturing.

I think it would take people by surprise in a positive way. The Star Wars resort hotel rooms should be special.

Most likely it wouldn't come to the Swolphin. They don't even have the Disney timetable channel (at least, they didn't a year ago).

I took this survey. It focused heavily on interactive TV. Down to ordering room service, maid service, check out info, room charges and on demand movies. Being able to stream devices to the TV. Control room functions with a tablet device or app. Sync and view your MDE app to show itinerary for the next day on TV etc..

Took a screenshot of what is in the OP first post but didn't figure it was ok to post.

Also asked how MUCH/Maximum would you pay for the new room elements in the first post.

Ah HA!!! I knew there had to be a monetization element to all of this.

Bilk the rubes into paying more for their room, PLUS entice a number of them to stay out of the parks during the busiest time of the day. Win win for TDO!!!

Disney has been surveying guests regarding new resort features. Features include
  • A welcome sequence where curtains will open, lights turn on slowly, music plays, and a custom welcome message with your FastPass+ plans for the day appears on the TV.
  • A brief animated video featuring a character of your choice welcoming you to the resort, playing on a screen themed to look like a picture frame.
  • Immersive on-demand movies with choices based on your FastPass+ reservations. Color-changing light bulbs and a star projector would be used to create an experience themed to each movie.
  • Live feed of nighttime spectaculars, bringing live video feeds of the park nighttime spectaculars synchronized to the show’s music to your resort TV.
  • Your PhotoPass pictures from the day displayed on your resort TV.

You know how Disney says, "Welcome home"? Let's keep it that way. By that I mean I'm ready to go enjoy myself in the parks and around WDW during the day. Waking up in the resort or returning in the evening is "Me" time to unwind. I don't need 24/7 immersion, thank you.

I see why Disney is trying to introduce more technology into the rooms; it's the wave of the future. With that said, adding extra charges is the part that concerns me. We don't spend that much time in the resort, and I'm mostly paying for convenience, comfort, and some theming. I wouldn't spend much time with all the extras.

I LOVED staying at Disney hotels but they have felt hopelessly outdated since 2005ish. The new Four Seasons blew me away in a way that I haven't experienced in a while

That's actually a major complaint among guests - that there isn't access to a wider variety of cable channels and first run films like every other hotel in the world.

Perhaps it's needed for families when they're taking an afternoon break. I actually rarely turn the TV on when I'm at WDW.

These all sound pretty cool...But I'm VERY interested in being able to pull up the Photopass photos on a big screen, we usually travel with a big group and it would be pretty neat while we are all talking and sitting around in the evening to cycle through that day's photos. And the Fireworks item would be awesome!

Unfortunately those buttons DO exist what did Disney do in response to complaints about worn carpets and rooms that did not receive periodic maintenance and deep cleaning.

Disney redecorated beautifully themed rooms with hospital style decor. So they were easy to clean instead of restoring mousekeeping to historic levels.

Yuck.

Disney has proven that they will now always do the cheap thing instead of the right thing.

Or...maybe they're following modern hotel trends where guests want to see more modern looking rooms, with white bedding, instead of a bedspread that looks like it hasn't been washed in 10 years. As much fun as the "themes" of the rooms were in the 90's and early 2000's, they look dated, and this refresh to all white linens and more modern hotel rooms is what people come to expect, because it's where the industry is going.

If Disney goes with the Industry, it's ruining the experience. If they stray from the industry standard, they ruin the experience. You can't have it both ways. I understand that some people like that stuff, but the reality is there is still plenty in the room to remind you that you're at Walt Disney World.

Having both Hilton Diamond and Marriott Platinum status, I can easily say that Disney's rooms are NOT following the industry trends, Yes lighter colors are in but replacement of carpets with cheap laminate flooring is NOT the industry trend, Disney's new rooms look like hospital suites and as such are unappealing.

Disney's theme is 'Cheap to Maintain' not 'Welcoming'.

Except "Welcome Home!" used to be a DVC-only thing, since the premise was that DVC owners were going to their "second home". Saying it to every guest, to me, cheapens the phrase to the point of being worthless.

Edit: Totally agree on your other points. When I get back to my room, I want to relax and unwind from the day, not be further immersed. As I said earlier, the items in the survey are aimed at some group of guests, but I am not part of that group. And if they want to charge more for it? Forget it.

Yes the sterile decor reminiscent of a hospital room, cheap linens which look like returns from WalMart, And the final insult the bill at the end of your stay.

I honestly found even the moderate hotels feels like motel quality.
Even a 3 star "executive" hotel looked way better room wise.
What saves Disney is their theiming OUTSIDE.

Like my mother said.. She doesnt give a darn about the rooms, since she is only going to be there for sleep, shower and use the loo.
