I'm trying to not "yell" and be as dramatic when getting my points across. But apparently people only pay attention when I'm over the top
I think alot of it is cultural/generational. I have a teenager at home and its either one extreme or the other. Cant just have a headache. Its a massive headache. Cant be disappointed that weekend plans fall through. The world is coming to an end. Going the other direction. The teenager doesnt respond well to balanced responses. I have to either be busting a vein excited or in the grips of anguish sad to get her to comprehend.

I think that is a problem, the only thing to draw you to the back of the marketplace now is Rainforest Cafe. Whereas before the bus stop was at that end and then World of Disney and the rest of DTD was the draw back out of Marketplace. and there used to be be the second Pleasure Island set of bus stops.
They used to have Art of Disney with unique items. Now its just reproduced prints and a few unispiring figures.

Even if Art of Disney still had unique items (which I can neither confirm nor deny since I haven't really looked around the store lately) I don't think it would matter much since you need people to know it's there and walk back to it. I don't think it is going to drive traffic way back in that corner on its own. I see it as a layout issue more than a store issue (even Wolfgang Puck's Express seemed pretty empty). Now if World of Disney was back in that corner next to Rainforest, and everybody knew it, that would make a difference I bet.

Assuming you are referencing these slides
DTD+brands.jpg

We got Disney Burger, its D-Luxe burger
The Disney Bakery is Amorettes
Trader Sams went in the Poly, but Disney Springs got Jock's
They built food truck park.
I guess we got The Ganachery instead of Powell's.
Wine Bar George is coming next year.
I assume Blaze Pizza replaced Shake Shack.

Walt's Place may still be coming as part of The Edison development next year.

Other than character dining pretty much all of the original concepts on this slide did open.

With the stores slide, I don't see any interesting original concepts anyway. Many brands would be unique to Disney Springs in Florida, I don't think there is Topshop, Superdry, Uniqlo in many other places in the USA except larger cities. But the retail mix is similar to what the slide promised.

I have seen people on these boards say that they don't even have a Starbucks nearby, or certain popular restaurants. Not everyone will have a Nordstrom or Bloomingdale's where they can purchase Topshop etc... for these people it could be exciting-- I have read plenty of reviews on Sephora's website where people were posting pleas to open a store near them...and maybe their Sunglass Hut doesn't offer a lot of the big designers. Maybe international travelers who do have these brands see something different than at their local store. American's can go to Harrods or Selfridges in London- and come back with something they could have purchased in the States. Shopping on vacation is not unheard of.

Anyway...we just all need to realize that everyone vacations differently, that's all :)

Yep, that was one of my points, the stores are fairly unique outside of large cities and many people may never otherwise get a chance to visit them.

But most of the Disney-run concepts on those slides have opened, or were already open.

It is far from complete and as we know with Disney will never truly be complete.

The average guest and local has not discovered it yet and still it has trouble handling the crowds.

We are between the back to school and holiday shopping season.

There was always going to be ideas that were more successful than others. Fact of doing business.

This thread will be another failed attempt to create a meme that is negative towards Disney. Notice the OP provides nothing but hearsay.

I think thats why there isn't Old Navy or Gap at Disney Springs. Uniqlo and Zara are less common in the US.

The shops seemed unique enough, but not all of them were engaging for me. Coming from London I have good access to high-end stores anyway, we go to the Outlet stores to look for bargains instead, most of what I bought last trip was Adidas, Nike, Converse or Under Armour from Premium Outlets. The only Disney t-shirts I bought were Uniqlo as they are better designs for a lower price than World of Disney.
Hi guys,
If you ever come to Manhattan let me know. Uniqlo and Zara, etc have been here for decades. Should I post a pic of myself in Uniqlo underwear (with Mickey on my butt purchased in NYC) in my hotel room in Disney from 2009?
With all due respect, I agree with your post 100%. No disrespect.

...waiting for the onslaught....

London and Manhattan=high five!

How would you know? Walt had been dead for nearly 30 years by the time it opened.

His standards live on in people like John Lasseter, James Cameron and Kathleen Kennedy. See Carsland, Pandora and The Force Awakens for proof.

Last time I was there, it was so crowded that I wanted to just stand still until everyone else left so I could move.

How crowded were they expecting again?

Apparently crowded enough that they would need more parking garages.
