Disney Springs construction begins

Seems really odd they aren't building anything on this green patch.

This entertainment area seems really tiny seating wise, not sure what there going for here, as i suggested elsewhere i still think the west side needs a true concert/entertainment venue for touring acts.

How big a seating area does that tiny, little bandstand require? However, you're right in that they need a bigger venue.

They have one in the marketplace for larger crowds. And an indoor theater in the HoB. I think that is about the largest concert crowd they want for DTD at this point. I guess they could always use the baseball stadium at WWoS if they started bringing in bigger acts. I just do not think they intend to compete with the large venues in Orlando. That is a good choice. New Citrus Bowl looks fantastic BTW. Never thought I would say that.

Touring acts? Doubtful.

I think if we're going to see a bigger venue built for touring acts, it'll be in DHS for something like what USF does for Mardi Gras. If Disney is going to get touring acts in, they want guests paying theme park admission, not free. I'm sure this stage will be used for people like Drey-C, the didgeridoo guy or any of the contracted musicians. I really hope they properly landscape behind the stage though.

Also, as i've pointed out in the past, House of Blues is on the west side and is one of the best concert venues in Orlando.

I think you are correct. They're not going to offer any big names for free concerts. And let's not forget that there is other nearby entertainment taking place at Raglan Road, Paradiso 37 and who knows what else at The Hangar and The Boathouse.

Thanks to @flyakite who found plans for one of the shops going into Disney Springs. The plans contained this image, which shows the eventual layout. Pretty much everything in the lower right corner of the image is going to be new construction in what is now a parking lot.

looks like there are plans to build something on that green space afterall

It also looks like there's going to be a rather large underground venue here. I managed to pull a slightly higher-res version of that graphic out of the .pdf plans, and you can see that space C23 is going to be "below" the main walking level:

Are you sure it's "Underground"? PI was actually a two story Island. Some of the construction photos from SavePleasureIsland blog show the big drop off behind some of the buildings.

Considering it's directly under the main walkway, "underground" was the easiest way to describe it. But yes, it's definitely on the first level.

I managed to find this photo from the Save Pleasure Island blog:

So I guess a better question is: will it be more BoH facilities, or an actual shopping/dining venue? I'm thinking its inclusion on a map with all the other venue locations means it's going to be a guest accessible area, but that's just a guess.

Which file did you find the higher res image in? This map would be useful since a lot of the permits reference these numbers on each building.

C23 is an Old cast area. My understanding is it was mostly a break room with bathrooms but it also contained offices and supply closets.

Disney Springs photo update as of Sunday, Oct 19, 2014. The painted plywood construction wall in this part of Pleasure Island has been replaced with a fabric-covered chain link fence. Not much new on the Boathouse in the background.

The floor for The Hangar now has bolts installed for the vertical structure.

The construction walls near Paradiso 37 have been moved back to create a dining "courtyard" or waiting area next to the original entrance. The new concrete here has lots of embedded sea shells.

Above the construction walls in the Paradiso 37 "courtyard", you can see the new shops along the street starting to take shape.

A look over the wall along the same street (up the hill). In the foreground of the picture, you can see the underground utility corridor exposed.
