Disney Springs construction begins

hey i'm headed to downtown disney springs tomorrow or wednesday. Anyone have photo requests?

EDIT: Sorry guy's I've got to change the photo update to Friday. Work caught up with me.

You could probably get some good shots from the balloon, if you wanted, at 'just over the wall' altitude.

Anything to see of The Boathouse construction site yet?

Interesting that there is construction north of Cirque. Definitely something to do with transportation. I am guessing employee parking. Or............monorail expansion?

LOLZ... ya'll gonna beat that horse on this thread as well? i saw somewhere earlier on this thread it was for some kind of drainage upgrade, that they had pulled up some of the asphalt and dug a hole for a pipe

The construction behind Cirque is for the new admin and engineering offices. The existing ones behind World of Disney are being demolished.

I know that the project as a whole isn't slated to be done until 2016, but does anyone have a sense of what sort of state the place will be in as of August of this year? We're thinking of a quick non-park trip to OKW and we'd probably be coming into DTD/DS to eat pretty regularly, unless it's in such a state that it's not worthwhile to do so...

Nothing but the Starbucks will be complete by then. However, if you came a few months later, who knows.

Thanks. There are still plenty of restaurants open during construction, though, right? Is it a total mess getting around there right now, or not a big deal?

Existing restaurants are still open. Use the OKW boat or bus to get there and you'll be fine.

Any idea when the parking garage will be completed? I used to love going to World of Disney and Ghirardelli but I have been avoiding DDT like the plague ever since the parking lot closures! :arghh:

They are still pouring the floors for the bottom level which are needed to support the second deck's temporary framing.

The parking garage will be done probably around May 2015 unless they increase the pace significantly.

That said they could possibly open up the bottom level once the 3rd deck is poured but it really depends on how they do the deck bracing during the pours and cure time. Another thing to contend with is the summer Rain which can slow down any concrete project significantly.

What is your evidence of a May 2015 completion date? Never heard it estimated that late.

if you take a look at how long it has taken them to get to the point they are now (4+ months) and multiply that by the number of levels you get a rough idea of time as well.

I'll put $100 on it not being open fully before February 2015. If I loose the money would go to wdwmagic for site hosting or a charity of their choice.

Edit: looks like they have picked up the pace so the original estimate may work.
