Disney Springs construction begins

Why would Disney share the revenue from a parking deck (that Disney built) with outside vendors ?

That makes no sense at all. Why not just keep all the parking money and give them free rent? Makes about as much sense.

Some have suggested third parties would object to paid parking but if Disney shared a percentage of this revenue stream it might make more sense to them. And I would get value added parking for my.....

What's the difference in that and the parking lots at the parks? Both are built by the SAME public entity.
At its simplest, people expect to pay to park at a theme park. There did seem to be some annoyed that Disney was having the structures financed by the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Yes, that was sort of the point of having a government, but it still rises the ire of some, some issues more than others.

When those citizens that are complaining move into the RCID then they will have a valid complaint. Otherwise they are just barking up the wrong tree.

Actually, they aren't. There are boundaries between what is directly Disney financed and what is RCID controlled/financed, and they're most obvious in the roads. The theme park parking lots were all built and continually financed by Disney, as are all of the park and hotel area roads. You can see clear boundary lines at a few key points on the roadways, the most obvious one being just before World Drive expands for the MK toll plaza by the change in pavement conditions. While all of the land within the RCID boundaries is their land in the same sense that all the land within Orange County is the county's "land," the individual land owners control their own property and what gets built and repaired within their property boundaries, and in the case of the WDW resort, Disney's land ownership boundaries are most easily discovered in areas by the changes in pavement conditions. RCID is financing the garages at Disney Springs through an "agreement" with TDO in the same manner that cities/counties will finance parking garages and other infrastructure for things like sports arenas or other large public/private endeavors. And while most of us here generally look through the lens that views the RCID and WDW as one in the same, for purposes such as this, they are completely different.

These reasons are also why the Center Dr/Reams Rd intersection is just now getting a stoplight, 42 years too late.

The locals may not react well to Disney collecting fees to use a structure built by a "public" entity.

That is why they will have to offer a free parking option. Just good public relations even if charging a fee would not be illegal. Pay parking would be entirely a customers choice if the option was made available.

Today is the 5TH anniversary of the Pleasure Island clubs being closed. September 27, 2008. In those five years nothing new has opened (except Paradiso 37 which was under construction anyway) to replace any of the clubs. The club buildings have either been demolished or just plain closed with nothing happening inside them. Five years of lost opportunity. Five years of lost revenue. Five years of lost profits. So sad.

5 Years of tax writeoffs for 'loss of revenue' so sad...

Just a reminder, this thread is for discussing the construction, not the merits of whether it should be built. There are other threads that cover that. Thanks

Another building gone. I don't ever remember seeing a lot of people in there though.

Was never that popular, partially because it was small small, and partially because no one realized it was a bar, not just a cigar shop. Still tended to have a steady flow of customers, and the service there was top notch. It will be missed.
