Disney Scanning Fastpasses

Interesting discussion on this, folks. I'm sure that as soon as it benefits WDW's business model to enforce the expiration time on FPs they will do exactly that. Until that time I like that we have the freedom to find ourselves on the other side of a park and not have to make a panicked dash to honor an FP slot. Likewise, if we're holding a set of FPs and it turns out we need to go back to the room for some down time, we can do that and still use the FPs later that same day. As a guest I appreciate that "policy".
I confess that there are times when I'll intentionally hoard some FPs to set us up for smooth touring later in the day. I also drive 3-4 miles over the speed limit on the way to Florida.

I was working at Buzz the day they scanned FPs most recently. Nothin' to it, really. They were just counting the FPs that came back.

And I'm not too sure what other CMs get in the way of late returns, but I'll see maybe 2 groups come in late when I'm at FP return. It may just be Buzz that doesn't see a lot of lates, but I haven't noticed anything insanely queue-breaking.

P.S. Be ready when you get to the CM at merge. On a 75k day, when your FASTPASS wait is 14 minutes, and standby Guests are calling you dirty names, just have your ticket out. :ROFLOL:

Yep. Pan merge is the most stressful position going. :)

I dunno, Buzz Merge gets pretty crazy. But then again, Return can be even worse:

"No, I can't take your FASTPASS from Pooh because you want to do this instead, step through this chain, NEXT!"
----
"No, you still have 10 minutes."
"Can't you just make an exception?"
"No, because then I have to let EVERYONE do it, and FASTPASS becomes useless, step through this chain, NEXT!"
----
"This is the surprise FASTPASS for Carousel of Progress, I need the Buzz FASTPASS, step through this chain, NEXT!"

I don't use punctuation when I speak at Buzz Return, though. It kind of flows out...

The Fastpass at Pan is one of the ones where it mpacts the standby the most though. Personally I think that the constant loading rides shouldn't have fastpass e.g. the slow rides, haunted mansion etc. as it just slows the whole system down, I would assume the guests don't help matters much.

Oh, I agree. And the way the queue is configured has the standby and fastpass lines FACE TO FACE, with the merge CM in the middle (directly in the line of fire). Believe me when I tell you that NOBODY is ever happy - the standby Guests are infuriated when their line is stopped to allow the designated # of fastpass-holding guests ahead of them - and fastpass-holding guests are also infuriated when the CM allows the designated # of standby folks in while fastpass folks stand and watch. :lookaroun

This is exactly the thing I faced. Even if I adjusted to the line, no one ever seemed happy. And when you have two lines to send people down, and one seems to be in line with w/ fastpass queue and the other standby queue and for whatever reason you send one down the other ramp (like happens on BTM), you get my all time favorite.

"Why are you sending those people without fastpasses down the fastpass ramp!? I have a fastpass, buddy!"
"Well, it actually changes here. We call this 'merge' because here we have to combine the lines. Your fastpass did help you get here faster, though, and will gladly send you down and soon as possible."
"So why are you letting those people cut me again? Cause I have a fastpass!"

I know a good CM adjusts, but sometimes, no matter what you do, someone is always unhappy. And that is merge. And part of the reason I did not stay at WDW. I loved it but just couldn't do that job. I can't deal with guests yelling at me all day when I did nothing wrong. And that was merge point.
