News Disney Riviera Resort announced

Yah know... when the permit was first released, the one that tipped the gondola hand, it had a very odd shaped thing on it. Turns out, it was exactly the footprint of the Riviera. But we all seemed reluctant to jump to that conclusion because the outline was just so... odd.

But it is the exact footprint and it still is very... odd. Why the bent shape, the wings going off in odd directions, and most oddly, the two very narrow courtyards where the wings come together. I'd like to think, "wha?..." but I'm left saying, "huh?...".
maybe the shape has something to do with trying to fit on whatever land was considered more stable, possibly the land that had been previously used by the old buildings
those little cut outs at the corners are a bit strange.

My assumption was that the shape of the building has to do with the specific view categories they're looking to sell. In their announcements about this project the indicated that it would have views of Fireworks from Epcot and DHS, and it looks like almost half of the rooms could be sold as as a view of one of the theme parks, or a "Lake" view. That's a big step up from the small number of Lake Views at the Polynesian

Its topped out. And its not as visible as a zoomed in photo makes it seem.
Obviously the cranes are highly visible, but thats not an issue at completion.
oh thats not too super terrrible then

not great, just not terrible

not really any more intrussive than the swolphin

Yeah, a lot of oddly interesting design aspects. I wonder what that roundish section of the building on the northwest corner is going to be? I wonder if that's going to be the room stack for the grand villas?

(LOL, at first, I thought it was going to be a '70s style revolving restaurant, but then I realized that the entire corner of the building was round)

Photo update as of Saturday, May 26, 2018. Some ground level views of the Riviera resort under construction. Photo below is from the main resort pool area.

As viewed from the front, the right side of the Riviera tower appears to have a set of rooms that have a rounded exterior.

definitely rooms of some kind in the rounded part.

Seeing this ugly, run of the mill tower hotel from inside epcot is a new low for Disney! Write the park, write Bob Iger - when Disney World is left on their own they make insane decisions like this. This tower ruins World Showcase - and for what? The ugliest DVC development to date?!

Hyperbole? Ruins World Showcase? I'll give you that its ugly but to say it ruins your experience in the World Showcase is a bit extreme. I don't like it either but i'll certainly still enjoy World Showcase.
