Just to check in: has anyone heard any solid rumors on an opening date or points per night?
I'm currently planning my next trip for (probably) September 2019, and I'm just wondering if this might be an option.
Thanks!

"Fall of 2019" is what Disney gave and all we have. No insider has given a more specific date that I know of.

Yep, that's all I could find, too. I just thought I'd throw out some bait and see if I could get a little nibble. ;)
In typical DVC fashion they aren’t saying anything about Riviera right now since the focus is on selling out Copper Creek which is right now about 1/3 sold. At the current pace it would take about 15 to 18 months to sell out. I think sometime in the first half of 2019 they will have enough points at Copper Creek sold to really start talking up Riviera. It’s hard to say when they would start taking reservations. Maybe in about a year. I think it will be a particularly hot resort to get around opening due to the direct connection to DHS and SW Land opening around the same time.

If it follows past experience, they'll start selling points to existing DVC owners maybe 6 months ahead of opening. Then they'll open it to new buyers. I think owners will get a head start on reservations, then open it to DVC members who don't own there and direct bookings.

Where this will likely be different is the number of points made available at the start. I expect the interest to be huge, and I think they could sell a lot more points just to existing DVC members than is the norm. Which means they'll have to decide whether to sell more points than they would normally do at a new resort, or limit it to allow more direct bookings. But that could exclude any new buyers, i.e.: non existing DVC members, whereas they'll want to use it to entice new members.

Usually those first few months are the easiest for non-DVC points bookings, but this could buck the trend.

I am seriously considering adding on here, depending on how many points they set as a minimum for existing members. If they allow 25 points then I'm in! They may set it much higher to limit demand though.

Sounds about right. Just for reference:

Villas at the Grand Floridian (106 2 bedroom equivalents)
5/23/13 DVC member sales begin
5/23/13 booking begin for VGF owners
6/19/13 general public sales begin
6/23/13 non-owners can begin booking rooms
10/23/13 VGF opens

Polynesian Villas (380 rooms)
1/12/15 DVC member sales begin
2/9/15 general public sales begin
2/11/15 owners can begin booking DVC rooms
2/25/15 non-owners can begin booking rooms
4/1/15 first phase of DVC rooms opens (142 rooms)

Copper Creek Villas (220 2 bedroom equivalents)
3/8/17 DVC member sales begin
3/21/17 owners can begin booking rooms
4/5/17 general public sales begin
4/26/17 non-owners can begin booking rooms
7/17/17 Copper Creek Villas opens

Riviera is estimated to be about 300 2 bedroom equivalent rooms so much larger than GF and Copper Creek. Poly is all Studios so it’s also much larger than that project. It’s around the size of BLT.

On average it seems like sales to existing owners start about 4 months before opening with reservations for non-owners looking to trade in starting on average about 3 months before opening. Disney generally doesn’t officially announce the start of sales until a week or 2 before they start. 3 to 6 months ahead of sales starting they will get the permit to begin sales. That will be our first clue that sales start relatively soon.

Since this is a new building and construction will be complete before opening in theory they can declare as many or as few rooms into DVC inventory at the start of sales. A project like Poly was limited in the number of rooms declared by which buildings had completed the renovations. Any rooms not declared into DVC inventory would be available for cash bookings as soon as they make the reservations available. I would think there should be a healthy number of rooms available for cash customers immediately after opening.

Do you happen to know when in this timeline they release the point chart?

Photo update as of Saturday, May 26, 2018. Some ground level views of the Riviera resort under construction. Photo below is from the main resort pool area.

As viewed from the front, the right side of the Riviera tower appears to have a set of rooms that have a rounded exterior.

Yah know... when the permit was first released, the one that tipped the gondola hand, it had a very odd shaped thing on it. Turns out, it was exactly the footprint of the Riviera. But we all seemed reluctant to jump to that conclusion because the outline was just so... odd.

But it is the exact footprint and it still is very... odd. Why the bent shape, the wings going off in odd directions, and most oddly, the two very narrow courtyards where the wings come together. I'd like to think, "wha?..." but I'm left saying, "huh?...".

The shape is very odd, but the Yacht and Beach Clubs each have quite a few of these small courtyards where buildings come together to provide one continuous structure. They're generally not very special, just paved over with a few plants and lights.
