Disney revises guns-to-work policy

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando,AP) -- Walt Disney World is revising its employee gun ban policy.

That's according to a company memo obtained Friday.

With the change, some Disney employees will be allowed to keep a gun locked in a car as long as the employee has a concealed-weapons permit, the gun isn't visible, and the weapon isn't taken out of the car.

The memo says the change only applies to employees who work at facilities outside the Walt Disney World Resort area.

Disney had previously claimed to be exempt from a new state law that allows Florida residents to keep firearms in their vehicles while at work.

The company's policy applies only to employees. Guests with valid permits can keep guns in their cars.

A few weeks ago when this subject came up, all the gun haters were arguing that no one should have any reason to have a gun anywhere on WDW property because it is, after all Disney World. And being the paradise that it is, no crime takes place at WDW right? Therefore, why should anyone need a gun at WDW of all places?

So I find it ironic and amusing to see the opposite sentiment expressed in a few threads lately, regarding children and predators at WDW. In those threads, the common sentiment is that children aren't safe at WDW, as that is a perfect haven for perverts and predators. And you should watch them like a hawk even when going to the restroom, because you never know who might be in the next stall waiting to molest your child.

Now I find myself wondering...which is it? A Utopian Paradise where no crime ever takes place and therefore no need for a means of self defense? Or a gathering place for the perverts of the world? :ROFLOL:

I think allowed personal employed at Disney should have a right to posses a gun or at least (and I don't know if they do already) a night stick. Better to be safe than sorry even if we are talking about little kids and perverts that is not all that visits. Rowdy teenagers seem to pose some problems also. And yes I know it said not taken out of car but then I find that pointless except for personal protection while driving or getting into said car.

Personally I'm not a gun fan (a canadian thing maybe) and I'm sooooo not looking to get into a gun law debate over this but what I wanted to say is that I wonder if the rule was changed because of the CM parking lots.

They are oftem dimly lit, out of the way and CM's are out there at all hours of the night, alone in the dark. I found them to be quite scary at times but luckily often traveled with a friend or on Disney CM transport.

I could see some CM's wanting to have protection (though with you being outside the car and the gun being in the car I'm guessing it won't do you a lot of good)

A night stick would be perfect for a CM in some cases. Like when push comes to shove or well shove comes to punch just get that night stick out and hit them atop the head really hard, that stops most people. I know, it hurts really bad too when you wake up from a hit.

Considering I sleep with my gun, and it has a nick-name, I am going to refrain from being flamed and not post in this thread.

:lol::lol::lol:
Please, I must know the nick-name. You always have such a good sense of humor and something tells me it is a good one.

I don't sleep with my gun, but I sleep next to it, as it hangs in a cloth bag on my bedpost along with the remote controls for my TV and such. But I doubt that I would ever need it. As soon as that intruder caught one look at me standing there in my underwear, he'd run off screaming and never be back. :D

And I never really thought about giving my 9mm handgun a nickname. Perhaps I should think of one.

Yes, we have named every handgun and long gun in the house. It is amusing at the very least. :)
