News Disney removing plastic straws and more by mid-2019

It is part of the waste created daily by guests at WDW. I just think it would be interesting to know. People seem very, very concerned about the impact that these straws have on the environment, so I am interested in knowing how significant a portion they actually are.
It’s not so much about people being “concerned" about straws. Disney can do its part by not handing out straws. I don't know what you think Disney can do about its guests using disposable diapers.

I don't know why you think I think Disney needs to do anything about disposable diapers. How can I be more clear? I just think comparing the types of waste people produce is an interesting comparison and helps put things in perspective as to what we are really talking about in terms of guest waste.

I would imagine most people would agree that disposable diapers cause more of a negative impact on the environment than straws. Sorry, I guess I'm just missing what point you're trying to make in the context of this thread about Disney trying to be environmentally responsible in the ways that are available to it.

Then it wasn't meant for you. :)

I wonder how much toxic waste trash is generated at Disney every day by disposable diapers, compared to straws.
I'll bite.

How is Disney contributing to the disposable diaper problem that you're describing and what can they do to eliminate or mitigate it?

Also, what is the relationship between their doing their part for the "straw problem" and their not doing their part for the "disposable diaper problem"?

Or are you arguing in bad faith by distracting from the original topic of this thread with an unrelated problem?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
In other news, I bought two six-packs of stainless steel straws today. I will add two of them to our string bag for our trip next week.

If Disney offers me a straw, then good. If not, I’m prepared. No lids? No problem. Iced tea and water with no straw? Who cares? But I cannot drink milkshakes or Dole Whips without one.

There is nothing to "bite".

It was a thought that entered my head when thinking about guest waste at WDW, which has been a topic of discussion. I'm genuinely curious.

In order to make a 'bad faith' argument I would have had to...argued something.

This thread apparently has reached that toxic point where people have been arguing for so long that they just jump on every little thing or anyone who posts they think is arguing with them, even when they aren't addressed. Please, ignore my post. I wouldn't want to give anyone a coronary, LOL. I'll go back to just reading this one. It isn't something I care enough about to spend any great amount of time arguing about.

I would think diapers for the most part would just be lumped in with waste generated by people in general. I mean if I have a baby, whether I'm at WDW or not, that baby is going to need changing probably the same amount of times regardless. Maybe I'll use a couple of more swim diapers but that's it. Now if I'm at home during a typical week, I use maybe 2 straws. Maybe. Whereas during a typical week at WDW, that number is going to be much higher.

I don't think anyone is having a coronary over your random thoughts. When you post them on a discussion board in a thread on a particular topic, though, there's always a danger that people may think you are trying to contribute something relating to that topic. Then they may respond.

Again, the only "green" in play with Disney removing plastic straws is the green of $$$ they save by not purchasing and storing them. There's no environmental crusade being undertaken by them with this, it's all about optics.

Says you.

Says most. Lets face it, if it was about being environmental, they could use the more expensive biodegradable straws, they could eliminate plastic utensils/plates and replace them with ones that need to be washed, etc.. I am happy about this (and the idea that there are bigger environmental concerns is a poor argument for not doing anything is ridiculous), but it is naive to believe that this would still be done if it would not save money as well. Ironically on the way to work today on NPR, they were discussing how philanthropists look more for a "win-win" than anything else in today's culture (I admit it was just starting as I showed up so I don't know how the conversation went). I would say this would fall into exactly what they are discussing. I don't think Disney would do a win (Eco-friendly)-loss (more expensive) with anything at this point. I am glad they found a win-win.

Says most.

Which means nothing.

Do you work there? Were you in on the decision making process?

Then you don’t know, and should present your opinions more carefully. One way to do that is to frame your opinion with “I think” or “I’m guessing” rather than present it as a statement of fact, which it cannot be.

Noticed that too? It was pretty clear what you were asking and that there wasn't some agenda behind the question.

People need to take a breather and stop jumping on each other and maybe instead of assuming ask what that person means ... sometimes reactions on this board make me sad because of the world we live in. No one listens to each other anymore. It's like everyone's looking for a problem or an argument. I don't get it :/ (I mean, I do *get it* but it's disappointing. Everyone wants to "be right". This "who cares" attitude is such a problem and sometimes I catch myself falling into that ...)
