Yes, indeed!!! Home of the drunken impulse buy!

That's for sure. Though I wasn't drunk I still have a pretty expensive camcorder I purchased there ... LOL

I quite liked that store and wouldn't mind something similar, though I guess you could always just go to Wal-Mart ...

You all know that NYC hosts dozens of big Broadway musicals as well as a Cirque show and other performance acts (Blue Man Group) simultaneously all within a few blocks of each other, right? And that Disney produces several of those shows at the same time?

I wouldn't worry about cannibalization.
Since I'm from NYC, thank u for this! I was thinking the same thing

LOL. Why would Cirque worry about Broadway shows?
Both are a form of theatrical shows. As someone who loves Broadway, i've always loved Cirque and paid for it many times, but if there was a Broadway show next door, they automatically just lost my money.

That's why they would care.

Point being, Cirque has been there since the 90's... I believe it's over 20 years old. While the show has seen changes, it's still mostly the same show. Any newcomer would automatically take business away from the 20+ year old show as it would be the shiny new guy on the block.... the Hamilton if you will.

And I do get that. For Cirque, absolutely, I can see them *very* worried about a fancy new broadway theater going up next door to them with a high quality show going in. I just don't know if Disney would care or not, but like I said, the audience may not be there for this type of thing as it is (fact is they need to improve their shows in the parks as it is).

Cirque still struggles a bit as it is, no? And I love Cirque. I've seen it a few times. If I had a choice, I'd of course, like you, choose the brand new high quality broadway show next door over Cirque.

But what i'm saying is, contractually, I don't even know if Disney could do it if they wanted to. We don't know the details of the contract with Cirque, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a no-compete clause somewhere within.

That's true. I'd have to imagine there would be but who knows? I don't think it's ever in the realm of possibility anyway that they put in a broadway style theater and show but it's a nice thought. Guess I have to haul my butt to New York .... lol

Disney would care because they are trying to convince more and more businesses that it is good business to set up shop in Disney Springs. Disney benefits from Cirque being successful. Why spend a ton of money making a high quality Broadway theater and show if it is just going to hurt their high profile tenant next door? That would be like Disney opening a steakhouse right next to STK.

We have seen La Nouba once in the 18 years we have been going to WDW and won't go and see it again until it has been completely revamped. Whereas if a Broadway show was on we would go and possibly every time they changed it. So they would gain from us and I know quite a few who think the same.
La Nouba must be struggling to sell tickets as one UK ticket agent is giving them away when you buy a UK 14 day Ultimate ticket.

It depends on the time of year. It's pretty much sold out Christmas week, but on the slower times much less. Also locals don't usually see it, it's usually tourists.

I like La Nouba but with all the different Cirque shows out there, maybe it's time for a change? I know they've switched out some acts, which is great, but it's been there for a long time. I know I'd personally love to see a rotation of the various Cirque shows out there but I don't know how realistic that is.

I still think a Broadway theatre would be fine IF Disney could be bothered to stage a show one cannot currently see on Broadway. That is why La Nouba has thrived for so long, exclusiveness. You cannot see that show anywhere else on Earth. Of course, it is pretty much impossible to keep a Broadway musical entirely exclusive. Also, eww at a lot of you choosing a musical over Cirque??? :in pain:

There are several Disney shows that are no longer on Broadway, such as Newsies, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and Aida. They could do any of those and I still think they would bring in more money than is realized with La Nouba. And personally, I would always choose a musical over Cirque. Heck, even a high school production of a musical I'd pick over Cirque! :p

Now name a similar area in another American city. The reason people keep referencing Broadway is because it is rather unique.

The casino shows in Las Vegas.

There are seven major musicals playing Chicago.

There are eight major musicals plus a Cirque in Los Angeles.

Gut it and turn it into an "in the round" concert venue and set up a in residence performer.

Or

5 story strip bar.

I've seen it suggested in here but I've always thought a Disney themed multi-level bar/club could possibly work but then you still have to deal with the stroller brigade who'd park out and then be upset because they want to hang out in a bar that's not for the kiddos (there's nothing wrong with the adults having a place of their own; the cruises manage this just fine ... why can't WDW?)

They should just take the NBA Experience idea and make their own sports bar. That's the best solution IMO.

I dimly recall hearing a rumor a few years back that there was talk about doing a Marvel-themed show.
